just finished watching an LA Noire playthrough and really hope the next GTA stops the modern meme and goes to the 40s. it can focus on old crime stories and the mafia instead of black gangs. it will be more sophisticated. hopefully they stick with the 3 playable characters since I quite enjoyed the different lives maybe have 1 detective 1 mafioso and 1 citizen it would be cool.

All I remember from that game is it being very on-rails and easy with the characters just telling you what you should do or make out of things. I never felt like I did any investigation myself, I only helped the characters do it.

>tfw no good detective games besides L.A. Noire

>tfw no good courtroom games besides Ace Attorney

>tfw no good cop games besides Swat

Don't get me wrong. I love Ace Attorney and Swat 4, but why is it that we can get generic open-world game #243242, but the crime/justice settings/themes are so desolate?

A lot of crimes would raise "uncomfortable" questions with today's stupid audience.

<Where's my "let them all go because police are racist and corrupt" button, shitlord?

Or hey, let's do a domestic violence case, that'll end well. Instead of allowing the player to do as he wishes and experience the consequence (you know, what the entire point of interaction is) expect to be railroaded into doing the "right" thing all the time.

It gets the period down really well, but it is just too easy.

LA Noire and Mafia 2 (the first part at least) are my go to games when I want the 40's vibes. The Christmas opening in Mafia 2 is just awesome for comfy feels.

And that's why they won't do it.

<Where's my "let them all go because police are racist and corrupt" button, shitlord?

Reminds me of Police Quest where if you try to be "nice" instead of following procedure things turn out badly. One case I remember the suspect asks you to cuff him with the hands on front instead of the back because he has back problems, if you do that I think he stabs you to death.

Also those complaints are actually good for sales since they're free marketing and cost no sales since the only people who get offended don't buy games in the first place.

The gaming equivalent of cuckoldry

5d3eb3 No.15225403

a game set during prohibition era would be better i think. you could even have car customization since hot rods as we know them were pioneered by bootleggers during that area to outrun police. then you could have a range of diverse characters from hillbilly bootlegging moonshiners from tennessee to italian niggers in the mafia

>>15225268

gta doesn't need to be a ripoff of mafia to have white gangs (which it doesn't even need because III, vice city, AND IV all included the mob and IV specifically even included irish and slavic as relatively major crews in the storyline)

i don't know what they're going to do for gta VI but it better be more interesting than V's setting

GTA: London 1969 would be fun to revisit. We've already gotten a revisit of every place except Miami-esque from Vice City.

they need to make one about the 60's or 70's.

that facial motion capture is where this game shined. That said, at this rate Rockstar will soon be a GTA & Red Dead company that operates on a 10-year cycle and they both might as well exist in the same parody universe… if they don't officially already. The 'noir' shit should just be a massive conversion mod for whatever the last GTA was. I would love to see them de-age Los Santos and re-implement the same kind of gangster game… with the size of the map there would be so much open space it would basically be a modern western as well as a 1920's-1940's noir…. They could also up-age Red Dead 2 to a post-war noir game and sell it as a completely separate title like they did Undead Nightmare, provided it was complete enough and not kinda empty like LA Noire.

It's been done to death. There's not much room to pursue new ideas within the confines of the traditional setting after 100+ years due to the formulaic nature of the genre. Contemporary Japanese titles have opted to blend fantasy in with the genre in the pursuit of novelty. This is why Ace Attorney, Danganronpa, Ghost Trick, Zero Escape, Detective Conan, etc. all have incorporated Sci-Fi/fantasy themes.

Also I'll recommend Famicom Tantei Club II, a game where you play as a private detective investigating the death of an amateur who had been pursuing the truth behind a strange rumor.

It's a shame the game becomes more about the stupid conspiracy plot and the MUHREENS instead of just being a strict cop game.

The worst was the Arson desk where by then you basically know the arsons are done by someone else but you still arrest the wrong guys.

This was basically the only good "movie" game. I'm about halfway through it for the first time. Pretty amazing atmosphere, especially if you play in Black & White mode. But like >>15225275 said, it's very linear and easy. The best part of the game is watching the scenes unfold, and if you miss clues or interview questions, you lose a big chunk of it so playing with a guide is preferred.
