It finally happened, I can't say it wasn't expected, Denuvo filed a case against me to the bulgarian authorities. Police came yesterday and took the server pc and my personal PC. I had to go to the police afterwards and explain myself. Later that day I contacted Denuvo themselves and offered them a peacful resolution to this problem. They can't say anything for sure yet, but they said the final word is by the prosecutor of my case.
Sadly, I won't be able to do what I did anymore. I did what I did for you guys and of course because bloated software in our games shouldn't be allowed at all. Maybe someone else can continue my fight.

It is more accurate to describe it as anti-tamper though, Denuvo technically includes no DRM in its licensing. Companies use whatever DRM method they want, then Denuvo prevents the DRM in the executable from being modified (which is how cracking works). That's why Denuvo games are so inconsistent about whether they're online only and require different methods to be cracked even on the same version of Denuvo.
I think this is why Denuvo is able to continue operating after games protected by it get cracked within days, it's quite easy for them to just say that it was the fault of the DRM, not Denuvo, and only take credit for the games that take months.

If anyone is thinking about getting into less-than-legal online activities, let me give you the rules of good OPSEC, which I'm stealing from the talk "OPSEC Because Jail is for wuftpd".
1. Shut the fuck up.
2. You can't be posthumously paranoid.
Don't talk about your life. Don't talk about your age. Don't talk about the weather where you live. Don't talk about your favorite dogs. Don't post any pictures unless you absolutely have to. Keep everything on a need to know basis, from the thickness of dust on your shelves to color of rocks in your side yard to when and where you're going to get something to eat.
Don't use code, use vagaries. Don't say "Let's talk about killing the dastardly rat men", say "can we meet?". You aren't clever and your code with be broken in no time at all. The feds will figure out in 5 minutes that "killing the dastardly rat men" is code for cracking DRM. Do use code for targets. If you're cracking the DRM for a new sega sonic game say "can we talk about necknife?" where both sides know that "necknife" refers to that new sonic game. You could do what the feds do and take names from things already in pop culture so that even if the codenames get leaked it's hard to find out more about them because searching for the code name brings up what the code name was taken from.
You have to set up the "plumbing" weeks or months before you actually start doing anything (rule 2, you can't be posthumously paranoid). You NEVER talk about your plumbing to anyone (rule 1, shut the fuck up), but here's one way you can set it up.
Set up TOR to go through a VPN, (never use a VPN and then TOR, always TOR and then a VPN). All of your external internet traffic needs to go through an external server you rent anonymously using bitcoin or some other anonymous cripto-currency. Make sure you acquire that cripto currency anonymously as well, and never use that cripto wallet or any wallet associated with that wallet for anything other than paying for a server.
This server is your hotbox, everything incriminating happens on and is stored on this server. Logs should not exist on this server or on your personal computer. No logs, no crime. You're personal computer should be encrypted, but there should be nothing incriminating on it were it decrypted. Only connect to the internet over a 3G connection using anonymous pre-paid sim-cards you replace every month. Sound expensive? It is. Let's hope you're getting paid for your less than legal activities.
If you have a phone it should be a burner, and when you're walking around with it you should remove the battery. You should only have that phone on you when you need to have it on you.
The more you know the better your plumbing is going to be, but your plumbing is only as good as it's weakest part.

If an identity is ever compromised DROP IT. Don't associate any identities, new or past, with it. These have to be separate in more than just name, you have to avoid cross contamination on all levels. Never connect to websites through the same IP on different identities, and never talk about anything that other identity did, or anything anyone told exclusively to that other identity. Rule 1, SHUT THE FUCK UP.
Your final identities should be pseudonyms, and they should reveal nothing about you. "Heydrogen" is a good pseudonym "18 year old male living in Botswana, born 3rd of June, likes to smoke weed in the park next to his house wearing a brown leather flight jacket and aviators" is not a good pseudonym. Your fallback identities should be believable as real identities, but also reveal nothing about you. You should have social media for fallback and core fake identities, and they should reveal false information. That way if someone gets busted it's one of your fake identities and not you. Then you drop that busted identity, and any identities connect to it, create new identities, and move on from there. Bear in mind that YOU should not have any social media, only your core and fallback fake identities should have social media.
You need to practice living under fake identities for months before you actually start doing anything that will get people angry at you. Remember, an amateur practices until he gets it right, a professional practices until he can't get it wrong.

I don't know if they ever reused this particular variant, I'm guessing they didn't because Dragon Age 3 was the only game I heard ever allegedly having the SSD destroying version.
However, I think the claim was that Denuvo was loading game data into RAM and then reencrypting the unused game data onto your storage medium in tiny pieces.
If that is what they were doing that would be a reason why there appeared to be such high amounts of R/W but it's also possible the person who made the original complaint had a dying SSD.
That would affect both HDDs and SSDs but years ago SSDs had significantly shorter lifespans than they do now. That is probably why the claim was "Denuvo kills SSDs" rather than "Denuvo makes a significantly large amount of R/W requests, rapidly aging the hardware".
Both would affect the lifespan of your storage medium but most HDDs last longer than most people actually keep them in use, so they aren't going to notice something shortening the lifespan by a few thousand extra R/Ws.
Anyway, regardless of the claim of Denuvo prematurely killing SSDs being true or not the DRM itself is anti-consumer and doesn't even reasonably protect the games from being pirated.
If it did this thread wouldn't exist because nobody would have been breaking Denuvo.

An AAA dev can stand to lose a few hundred thousand copies to pirates and feel nothing. They can also choose to pay the token sum to Denuvo because their margins aren't affected much and they get to keep a tight leash on their games.
Smaller devs are "punished" for not giving protection money to the DRM racket and they can't afford to lose thousands of copies to pirates.
The "not all piracy is lost sales" argument doesn't work here. Smaller devs literally can't sustain themselves when a game fails to be profitable and a game being pirated en masse, particularly when they would be lower sales volumes to begin with, increases the chance of non-profitability.

I'm not trying to claim pirates will buy if they can't pirate it. I am saying many people will just not buy a game if they have the ability to pirate it. Including the eternally obnoxious moralfag pirates.
A lot of people don't even see piracy as a widespread issue that should (or can) be fixed.
They pirate games because they can, because they want to play them. Presumably, they think actual buyers will pick up their slack but fifty buyers can't "sustain" hundreds of pirates.
When you have a small team of people working months or years to make a game and it ends up not making money, due to any number of reasons, you can't keep trying. Eventually you have to give up and go back to your "real" job.
Indies more often than not do not buy Denuvo due to the unconfirmed reports of high cost, in both resources and money, of implementing it.
What I am implying here is that Denuvo, or somebody connected to Denuvo, has a vested interest in trying to kill the profitability of games that don't use their DRM to "prove" its effectiveness.

Why should other crackers re-invent the wheel? Now that he's out of the picture you'll see a lot more cracked Denuvo games from different sceners.
