Anyways,

>Super Slim

>"Yeah, it's cracked!"

This is probably where they fucked you over, but it's not like your lack of research didn't get your further into trouble. A PS3 hard drive is encrypted FOR THAT SPECIFIC PS3 CONSOLE, NO OTHER PS3 WILL ACCEPT IT. There are ways to move/copy data to/from a PS3 after hacks/CFW, and even ways to back up some data (like saves) onto a flash drive/external HDD on stock firmware, but since you've already formatted that drive, you're SOL.

All articles and tutorials telling you that you cannot downgrade the Super Slim are telling the truth.

AS OF RIGHT NOW, THERE IS NO WAY TO DOWNGRADE THE SUPER SLIM MODEL OF THE PS3

Your best bet is to download a Homebrew Enabler style software mod that can allow you to play "game backups" that you can download from a few websites. Just about all of the PS3 library is available, so get yourself a big hard drive (1TB+) depending on how many games catch your interest. HEN doesn't go as deep as CFW, and cannot utilize some of the same features that, say, Rebug can accomplish.

My fat ps3 stopped playing ps2 discs when I jailbroke it and won't play ps2 roms either. When I try to play the disc the screen simply goes black and stays that way. You got played.

For future reference:

Thanks to PS3xploit you can now downgrade any PS3. But to hack them you must downgrade to 3.55 and if the console is post late-2011, it can not run 3.55 so it'll brick unless you reflash 4.82 once again. So, here's the rundown:

>Phat PS3s

All are hackable but they aren't very durable

>Slim PS3s, CECH20xx and CECH21xx

All of these are hackable too, waaaaaay better than the phats

>Slim PS3s, CECH25xx

Some are hackable. Check the datecode underneath the system. If the datecode is 0x, go for it. 1A or 1B are hit or miss, but mostly miss so skip them.

>Slim PS3s, CECH30xx

Forget about these.

20 and 60gb fats had an actual PS2 chip in them. Though, I'd wager it's a late model chip, and even PS2s had some slight incompatibilities with both particular PS1 and even PS2 games at times. The 80gb fat (NTSC, anyhow) is stuck using emulation instead, and thus having more incompatibilities.

>You either had to choose between more HDD space or PS2 games

The HDDs were replaceable, even in the fat models. Bigger issue there was the longevity of the fats between how hot they get and the quality of the thermal paste being subpar.

Better solution is to just run minverchk on them to be 100% sure the base firmware is indeed in range. Though obviously that's probably easier to do after you've bought a system, as I would assume most stores don't want to run a seeming risk of you bricking what they're trying to sell (though minverchk is safe).

You got doubleniggered, you don't fix PS3s by reballing them, the only thing that "fixes" it is applying heat (about 180°C) to the defective chip, you can do that yourself with a heatgun if you wanna try but the fix is generally very temporary and will fail again in months.

Every single nigger trying to sell you a reball for fixing console is A trying to fuck you over and just applying the heatgun fix or B genuinely retarded about his job.that he thinks you actually need a reball.

>>15198104

Reballing is effective when the problem lies with the balls under the chip being bad not when the chip itself is bad.

Simple test for that is to simply apply some heatgun to the chip but staying below the melting point of lead free solder (215°C, 170-190°C works well), if you console works again it's a bad chip it might hold on a few month maybe more if you don't use the console very intensively and have really good cooling, if it doesn't the balls are bad and then you can consider reballing,, congratulation you just saved yourself about a hundred bucks or several hours of your life.

And no doing that isn't gonna cause further damage, to reball you're gonna have to heat the chip with a heatgun but over the melting point of lead free solder this time so you're not doing anything a reball wouldn't and that's also why reballing "fixes" things

Fuck, I had removed this from my memory.

I used to run FreeBSD on one to play around with POWER ASM and test the portability of some third party software.

I noticed the OS has accesss to all but 4M of RAM, I figure this is the PS3's hypervisor running the OS as the GameOS, with 4M for itself.

Because of this quirk I had to run the GameOS first, use a fan control tool, then boot the OS as a game. Otherwise the CPU would turn itself off when compiling a lot (overheat).

At 100%, those things just remove all noise from a room, it's nothing but VRRRRRRRRRR and you can feel the pressure in the air.

God damn. The PS3 is strong as shit.

The only problem was that the IHS kept sliding when the motherboard was tilted, so reattaching the heatsink was tricky.

I finally got some time to myself and installed Rebug on the slim without a hitch. Now on to transferring vidya, which is trickier than I had hoped since I don't have a switchbox and the I can't seem to connect to it via wi-fi (filezilla just says ECONNREFUSED, which immediately makes me think of those MeetnFuck games and the sound a woman makes when you mess up).

If all fails, I'll just switch my PS3 for my friend's since I'm staying at his place. It's the same model too!

Your ftp is not running, most likely. Open multiman and set the ftp sever to on without a timelimit (if you set one, you'll run out of time eventually and it'll stop accepting connections again).

Once you copy everything, turn off the ftp server. I hope you're using wired connection, though… Otherwise it'll be sloooooooooow.

Had to have multiman turned on in a specific way.

Haven't tried uploading with the wifi yet, but after booting into multiman the sound disappears in the menu and game, even after I launch it throug XMB (standard procedure). Still using the same Burnout Paradise image, so the issue must be with mM

If you're always going to have a network connection, I can tell you I've had 0 problems streaming games over LAN with ps3netsrv.

On your PC you basically just setup a folder with games, run a little server, and on the PS3 you install a plugin or use multiman (or both), tell it the machine ip, and you can load games that way without them being on the PS3. Great if you want your entire collection at home, but only a small subset when traveling. Or if you can stand long load times, VPN to home while traveling.

Finally got it to work, had to fiddle with some COBRA tools. Still can't play Resident Evil 4 though, gets stuck on the first loading screen after main menu.

Apologies for shit taste, I have nothing to defend it with. I'm just really really tired and a retarded edgy interpretation of Dante's Inferno is just what I wanted.

That's weird. You sure it's a good copy?

Try other games. I remember Driver San Francisco requiring a random game in the disc drive for it to work on old CFWs, but it no longer needs that.

Try that one, or if you're looking for something small and quick, how about Dragon's Crown?

nope, same iso emulates on PCSX2 just fine.

Battlefield 2 works as well, but god damn I did not expect it to be this slow.

I can't find a european copy of Dragon's Crown, so I'll go ahead and try the NTSC copy I've found just now.

The disc inside drive trick only applied to some PS3 games. PS2 compatibility is all up to how well the game performs in the internal emulator. Seems RE4 doesn't work well in that case.

Refer to this list for quick reference:

http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/PS2_Classics_Emulator_Compatibility_List

(curiously, RE4's entry states it is playable…)

PS2 ver is pretty meh anyways, the cutscenes are all low-quality prerendered video.

There's this thing called thermal adhesive (pretty much permanent, usually used to firmly attach aftermarket heatsinks on VRMs and VRAM chips), and self-adhesive thermal pads (not permanent, used in some GPUs on VRAM chips to increase heat transfer to heatsink). And thermal epoxy (again, pretty much permanent)

First PC port was broken beyond belief, you couldn't aim, you couldn't exit the game, it ran like shit, etc… I haven't tried the 2014 HD port (wow that was 4 years ago?), so I can't say anything about that one. I also have it on the Wii (works really well with the wiimote, even if a bit jittery), but I wanted to play the original.

I got the game to work by simply re-transferring the file via cable connection and by making sure ps3 didn't go to sleep during transfer, that was the problem.

The first port had weird rebinding limitations forced gamepad or KB aiming unless you modded it, you could exit the game if you weren't a retard (SPOILER:generic KB shortcut exist for a reason) and it ran fine 30fps cap notwithstanding (it's there in every port that isn't the HD re-release for PC/Xbone/PS4)
