Your characters are now controlled by AI when not in use, so your storylines and stuff you made up get screwed up by the AI making one of your characters hook up with a new computer NPC. this is one of the dumb things about the sims, actions take longer than there is time in the day, so unless the sim gets a shitty job it will have no time to clean up, cook, or perform extra curricular activities.
Same goes for kids, if you have a family setup and there's a spring/fall festival they'll never be able to go because the parents need a babysitter or need to take the kids with them, but between the work hours and school hours it's already dark by the time they hit the festival and other sims have already gone home, which they'll have to do after 1 minute because it's nearing midnight.
You'd have to call out of work or keep the kids home from school to really participate in any events.

This post reminded me of the time I made a Josef Fritzl house in Sims 2, even down to making a replica of the house and trying to make the basement look decent, but I never got around to putting any Sims in it. It probably wouldn't have worked very well anyway because basements in TS2 were sort of a hack and it didn't count the floor above as a roof, so it was technically considered outdoors and wouldn't stop rain from coming inside. From what I understand modding any Sims game to add new mechanics or change existing ones is notoriously difficult. There's a reason why only a handful of modders make such mods. I was employing my critical idea guy thinking skills the other day and and came up with an idea for an extremely barebones FOSS Sims clone. It would have placeholder models and textures, very few basic animations, and basically only really contain all the logic needed for the game to function (at least starting out anyways.) Then since it's FOSS anyone who's interested can make or import assets for it to make their own unique overhauls (e.g. importing MMD models/objects/etc and making a custom shader to make anime sims) or create more universal add-ons that anyone can slap in their game (e.g. add a few new stats and skills relating to combat that the NotSims can learn along with some new hostile NPCs to add RPG mechanics to the game. Or, for maybe a better example, a porn mod.)
The idea is that, if you can get them to stop taking EA's dick up their asses, you could get the autismal Sims modding community to basically make a game for you. As long as the logic in the game is sound and it doesn't run like utter shit (really you just need it to run better than EA's abominations) I can't think of a single reason why most of these modders wouldn't switch over to a free, community-oriented and modder-friendly alternative, especially when so many of them gripe about EA's games being the exact opposite and quit the community so often because of it. I'm sure there would be some retarded fanboys who would gladly keep paying hundreds of dollars for the privilege of having a barely functioning shitheap with a brand name on it, but I don't think we'd miss their potential contributions very much. The only real challenge you would face is if the project became successful, then I'm positive that EA would try to SHUT IT DOWN

No matter the version, I was never able to get over the fucked time compression. Could never get anything done when it would take two hours for a Sim to get up in the morning, take a shit, and take a shower, and then another hour to walk downstairs. The only use it ever had was exploiting the glitch of moving a shower so the character models appeared nude, which I fapped over as a virgin 11-year-old a few times. Go to games4theworld and it should be there. I just pirated last night and everything was fine. The game is a bitch after installation while playing. Everything is counterintuitive and the opposite of the Sims 3. I tried building a house and while it turned out well enough, I was spending more time trying to learn the new controls and fighting with them. Create a Sim is the same thing. I’m trying to rotate the sim by clicking and half the time I’m widening a part of the sim or making it thinner. The UI design is so fucked as well. In Sims 3, everything is nicely organized in one section. Sims 4 you have the section at the bottom to place things then the undo button, sledgehammer tool etc are on a separate bar on the top of the screen.
TL;DR If you’re coming right off of the Sims 3, you’re going to be fighting with everything.
