The bootrom patches are burned to the hardware fuse at the factory so any exploits that could only be fixed by patching ipatch are only fixable at the factory.
The new Switch units come with an updated ipatch and aren't vulnerable. So the millions of existing Switches will always be exploitable but the newer units just being released are patched.

Trannies are, at their core, attention whores. CFW, hacks, emulation, etc acquire a lot of attention when they're popular platforms.
Previously, most people taking part in hacking hobbies were doing it for fun/interesting mods and weren't e-celebs/"personalities".
Essentially the trannies exist in console hacking because nobody cared about the attention previously so they had little to no competition in the space.
They're difficult to kick out because the moment you call them on their shit they start crying to the LGBTPBBQ brigade and you have to deal with months of people calling you a bigot because you dropped dead or in this case, thieving weight.
>>15163569
>The Switch scene is full of fucking faggots who do halfassed projects then expect someone else to do the hard parts.
All current gen console devs seem to operate like that. They are only interested in the attention they get for bringing over halfbroken shit that they just recompiled from github.
Obviously the dude who fixed the entirely broken backend wouldn't have been able to do anything if they didn't port preexisting software to an Android tablet.
>Don't dare call them out on it though, or else you're a fucking entitled bigot.

>It would be good to get a portable battery pack if I plan on playing on handheld mode for extended periods of time though
Probably. The battery life on the Switch is shit, which keeps my time playing it to a minimum since I use it pretty much exclusively in handheld mode with my TV's HDMI ports already full.
Maybe once CFW and Homebrew are out and robust enough - I'll finally unplug something else, but right now I have my PS4, 360, and PC hooked up to it, and my Dreamcast on the Component input via a VGA converter - and I'm not unwilling to unplug any of them for the Switch just yet.
Either that, or I'll just wait until I finally get an Xbox One for backwards compatibility if my 360 breaks and use it's HDMI pass-through. I don't really see it replacing my Vita as my go-to portable anytime soon either since it's not really portable to the level I could just slip it in my pocket, it's not nearly as comfortable to play, the Vita has a longer battery life, and the Vita has more games with it being cracked wide open.

I don't think it's good enough to warrant a purchase. Poor battery life, dock scratches the screen, current piracy options are lacking. It looks good in white but doesn't come in white and you can't add/remove skins to it without ruining it (exterior texture rips off) plus fragile internals means taking apart joycons to mod the shell may destroy them,
Maybe updated Switch hardware will come out at some point with less flaws?

>posting screencaps of TX using code available to the public and decrypting a .dat file
Here's the thing. If all they were doing was using "stolen" without getting into why most uses and users of the GPL are literally retarded publicly available code, how has nobody just rigged it together in the same way?
Is it because the functions that Atmosphere doesn't have are not part of the "stolen" code?
>>15167418
>Poor battery life, dock scratches the screen, current piracy options are lacking
The poor battery life and the size are the biggest reasons I hate people calling it "handheld" or even "portable". If you need a backpack to carry it the device is "mobile" at best.
The dock is just poor product planning and can be fixed by using a third party dock or possibly just getting a C-to-C connector to use as an extension. Unless the press down area in the dock does something other than hold it in place.
>Maybe updated Switch hardware will come out at some point with less flaws?
Considering that similar practices have been used with other consoles I'm guessing there will be a SwitchXL and/or a SwitchMini. One will be smaller with longer battery life, the other will be permadocked and hopefully have less thermal issues.
I'm hoping the smaller one gets made but phone gaming memes seem to have scared off any exclusively handheld consoles in the current year.

When has Nintendo ever shipped a finalized mobile product that didn't require you to purchase an entirely new system just to patch a hardware bug? If it weren't for the hardware exploit, I would have just waited for the "New Switch XL/Lite" or whatever they're sure to come out with in a year or so.
At the very least, this time around you can detach the controller interface and replace it since they forgot to put on a fucking proper D-Pad, but those will cost $70 for a new fixed left Joycon.

>When has Nintendo ever shipped a finalized mobile product that didn't require you to purchase an entirely new system just to patch a hardware bug?
That depends on your definition of finalized. Technically the GBA was finalized in 2001.
The later revisions SP, micro were largely QoL features that allowed them to drag their feet instead of releasing an actual successor in the handheld space.
The DS/3DS revisions were not as far as I know to patch hardware bugs but were removing shitty features/adding shittier features. I don't think removal of a failed feature can really "unfinalize" a product.
You also can't really accurately predict the success of a new feature without mass market testing, even focus groups are regularly shit.
My issue with the Switch screen scratching through regular use was, had they tested the product for about a week they would know it was an issue. So they either knew and didn't care or didn't test the thing at all.
>At the very least, this time around you can detach the controller interface and replace it since they forgot to put on a fucking proper D-Pad
They didn't forget, they realized there was a lucrative market centered on selling people hardware that they removed from the base product. That's why the 3DS didn't have four shoulder triggers or a second circle pad until you bought the addon.
The Switch just expanded the system by cutting the console into any pieces it could. For example, the Switch "Pro" controller has a D-Pad but you have to buy it separately for an additional 70$.
fee53e No.15173028

Didn't the 3DS scratch it's own screen too? I have to wonder if it's just lack of quality control on the mass production models. They are made in shithole countries where nobody gives a shit, yeah? Probably somewhere in southeast Asia, I don't actually know which one. As for selling you controller options, I feel like they finalized the hardware but then developers or players complained. I don't know the timeline on the Wii classic or pro controllers or whatever, but I feel like that's what kinda happened there. Nintendo is pretty set in their ways on forcing you to use whatever they want you to, I'm surprised they even give options sometimes. They're kinda retarded that way, I'm surprised the Wii U pro controller is basically just a standard Xbox one but with different stick placement.
b9c2bc No.15173565
>>15173028
>Didn't the 3DS scratch it's own screen too?
Yes but I believe that had more to do with hinges loosening over time than the hardware functioning as intended. Still a QC issue but more of a material deficiency than a literal "we didn't test the wear the dock puts on the Switch itself"
>As for selling you controller options, I feel like they finalized the hardware but then developers or players complained.
It wouldn't surprise me if that is what happened but even just factoring in the cost of an additional pair of joycons for two/four player or a nonshit controller, that's still $80 on top of the cost of the console. Even more if each player requires two joycons or their own pro controller.
Assuming you play any game with local multiplayer you can easily double the cost of the console just buying controllers. $240 for three additional joycon pairs OR $280 for four additional Pro controllers
I think the one joycon per player attempt is what caused them to forgo a traditional D-Pad without them caring that most games would prefer to assume the players all have a full layout with two sticks, a D-Pad, four shoulder triggers, and four buttons.
>Nintendo is pretty set in their ways on forcing you to use whatever they want you to, I'm surprised they even give options sometimes.
It's not exactly an option when your choices are a terribly functioning box with a stretch layout and a controller for normal hands that doesn't drop signal when it's more than five feet away from the receiver.
I think Nintendo has been getting away with being Nintendo since the Wii was launched and it still hasn't caught up with them just yet.

ReiNX is out. You have to compile it yourself and it doesn't currently have the previously mentioned sig patching yet but early testers have been showing a working backup loader and it is apparently easier to setup than previously existing open source solutions.

I mean this in the nicest way possible while still typing this sentence. That looks pretty fucking bad.
You should have forgone the packing material entirely and used a microglass/microfiber cloth with some double-sided tape. Using disposable materials for what looks to be a permanent fixture to your dock is terrible.
I also recommend you replace the air filter in your air conditioner as soon as you are able and more often, if you have one, because particulates of that size should not be floating around and depositing themselves onto your things so easily.

I did that first link just fine, and spent a considerable amount of time on the second: https://archive.fo/9M55S but figured out how to use hactool and all of that. I thought I could just play the games with what that page said but I kept getting errors every time I went to run them, so I tried using https://archive.fo/kwTXL but now I can't access the homebrew store thing from Albums (I assume that's where you're supposed to run that tool) and I'm fucking bummed with no clue what to try next. Here it is:

Copy the contents of the SD folder to your SD card, run the ReiNX.bin payload via TegraRCMSmash or whatever.

Thanks for the DLC at least. I'm sure somebody will get around to making more accessible .nsp files eventually. On a different topic, I had asked before about backing up NAND and restoring it to get rid of error logs, but nobody knew if that was accurate, and in addition the problem is that you need to make an incriminating error to backup NAND anyway yes? Homebrew Launcher and other homebrew software generates custom error codes which cannot be naturally generated on a Switch. I imagine that's how Nintendo detects shit.

Why would anybody give a shit about being banned? Amusingly, the Switch's biggest problem isn't even Nintendo's fault. It has to do with Nvidia's basically stock Tegra chip having a recovery mode that is really easy to fuck around with. The biggest benefits to preserving fuses are having the ability to downgrade and/or maintaining a lower OFW in the event that a coldboot exploit becomes available for a lower OFW.
In the event you don't have a bootrom vulnerable Switch protecting fuses will allow you to possibly get hacks at all in the future. If you don't care about that AND have a Switch with the bootrom exploit there is currently no OFW that can stop you from later deciding to hack your Switch.
>>15193801
Currently vulnerable access points of the Switch have all been from other methods than the Horizon OS/Nintendo themselves. The publicly known Trustzone exploits have, as far as I know, been fixed in 5.1.
Webkit entrypoints are largely out of Nintendo's hands other than issuing an update which tends to signal vulnerability to people in big red letters and older webkit vulnerabilities are mostly public.
The biggest security flaw was an Nvidia issue and that has also been fixed on newer consoles, that doesn't exactly scream "insecure" on Nintendo's part.
>>15193984
You should really blame Nvidia in this case. They put the Tegra into a lot of shit without apparently having done much testing. The only reason anybody even discovered it is because people really want free games.

Nothing else really stands out about it, it's barely compelling, and really is only one of the best JRPGs of it's generation because it wasn't terrible. Xenoblade X is fucking awful unless you like exploring alien worlds, giant robots, and exploiting job systems, and even though all of that shit is my shit, I still found myself wondering what the fucking point was. I haven't even played Xenoblade 2 yet, but the only complaints I've heard are the voice acting/localization, which can be mitigated by playing in Japanese (you have learned Japanese, right?) and the fact that the artstyle looks too anime. I might not watch much anime, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say it doesn't look that much different than Xenoblade. It does look a lot different than Soraya Saga, who did the art for a lot of Xeno- games before -blade. If you want to play a Xenosaga game that isn't awful, try Xenosaga 3, it has giant robots. Now, do you want me to break down exactly why every Xenoblade has some pretty fucking bad quests? I haven't even played Xenoblade 2 yet and I really feel like everybody is overreacting with how "anime" it is, but again I don't watch anime or anything really so maybe that sort of thing doesn't offend me.

46b2be No.15201186
>>15201142
Updating without burning fuses by itself (and then booting the updated firmware via Hekate or ReiNX) should not lead to a ban, at least there haven't been any reports of that. There are several things that CAN lead to a ban:
- connecting to the Internet while having Homebrew Launcher errors in your error log, or clearing the error log on 5.x.x;
- using FreeShopNX to download shit directly from Nintendo (this actually leads to a CDN ban, which prevents you from downloading game and firmware update in addition to disabling online);
- connecting to the Internet when you have NSPs installed that aren't in your purchase history or aren't signed properly;
- playing online with any kind of backups;
- fucking around with DevMenu.
Bans are kind of random in nature and might not happen instantly. The best way to avoid bans is to just stay in airplane mode while doing any shady shit, then restoring a clean NAND backup before trying to go online, but even that probably doesn't give a 100% guarantee.

If you update without burning fuses, you can downgrade at any time by either restoring a NAND backup of your previous firmware or just installing it by doing the same shit you did to update. CFWs like ReiNX and Hekate (which is basically a bootloader) ignore the fuse count, which means you can boot any firmware when using them. But as they are RCM payloads, you'll have to connect your Switch to a PC/phone/special USB trinket every time you power it on or reboot, which can be inconvenient to some people.
The gamecard reader has its own firmware, yeah. When you update to a post-4.x.x firmware via normal means its firmware gets updated, which means that if you downgrade back to a pre-4.x.x firmware the gamecard slot is not going to work.

No. ReiNX runs on top of the firmware on your Switch's NAND, so does Atmosphere. Right now they're both basically just sets of patches and replacements for the bootloader and some kernel modules. Those are applied by booting into RCM mode, which is kind of like recovery mode on Android phones, and running a special piece of code that unpacks your firmware, injects patches into it, then packs it back up and runs it, also bypassing fuse checks.

It does ban you but the biggest issue isn't so much being banned from online multiplayer Nintendo's has always been a joke and now they want to charge for it the issue is that the bans also affect CDN access.
The bans going out block your Switch's ability to download games, game updates and I believe OFW updates from Nintendo servers. Obviously the first two are a far more significant issue.
>>15221925
You can but currently there is a near 100% chance of being banned because Nintendo actually did game authentication in a way that allows them to actually see and ban people using pirated copies.

The "screwing yourself" part is that you can't play higher FW games on lower FW games.
>Also, couldn’t just keep it offline and play backups safely anyway?
The only real issue with planning on that is that, if at any point in time, a better method that does allow online play/shared keys you'll have a console that has logs upon logs of you playing games from an unsafe method.
That is why, if you can afford it/want to give more money to the Nintenjew, buying a second Switch is a decent idea in the event a safer method is released.

Further, it sounds like some of that requires exFAT instead of FAT32 unless I get a specific variant, that sounds like a pain. At the moment my plan was NAND backup, inject exFAT support, and then do ReiNX. Which means I'll probably have to format my SD card to FAT32 first since I need to get it working.

A few months ago most "news" was essentially filtered and controlled by a few faggots from reswitched. Then they splintered into nothing because trannies are literally incapable of keeping any sort of information private and other people realized
>oh right, we can fork GPL code
After that nobody had to give a shit about reswitched due to their "no piracy allowed" retardation.
Dozens of other nonsecret secret clubs formed and attention whores couldn't control anything anymore and started getting bitchy about everything.
The bullshit yesterday was just an extension of that bitchiness because literally they got beaten to a usable release by a group who started after them with a foundation that was their own shitty codebase.

Also related - has anybody been banned on a switch with 2 accounts on it? If so were you banned on both?

Anon i've been playing switch games for the past week.
Just get ReiNX and a shitload of .nsp game files to the root of your sd card, install em all to your switch then go wild.
The fact that you dont have any games to play is nothing but your own fault.

No. Atmosphere already has more features than ReiNX and always will. All ReiNX has is sig patches and you can copy them over to Atmo

Yeah, there's some edittor that lets you remove the firmware requirement. Search gbatemp, I don't remember it.
You're gonna get banned if you go online. Count on it. Delete internet settings and put it on Airplane Mode.
