I just got some money and am eyeing a nice used 3ds. Do you guys think its worth it? And can anyone explain the differences between all the DS versions? I'm out of the loop - last console I owned was the DS Lite.
1d182a No.15142574
Pretty sure piracy is available on all of them now, so if you can get a cheap one, it's not bad. Supports quite a few emulators as well.
As for versions:
3DS - the base model, the original.
3DS XL - same thing but bigger.
2DS - runs the same games, but does not display them in 3D. Really, only a couple games made good use of the 3D, so it's not that useful.
New 3DS XL - has a faster processor and improved 3D (tracks your eyes), has some exclusive games for it as well. The two I remember are Xenoblade Chronicles and Minecraft. Also native Amiibo functionality, if you care about that.
New 2DS XL - same thing but without the 3D.
Ideally, you'd want the "new" one. Hacking them isn't that hard, there are generals here once a month or so with solid guides.

Thanks for the reply. The one I have available in the pawn shop is the regular 3DS. You don't think the new or XL ones make too much of a difference, right? Does the 3DS accept old DS Lite carts?

>You don't think the new or XL ones make too much of a difference, right?
Well, the XL is literally just a bigger screen.
As for the New 3DS/2DS, any game made after its launch basically targets it, so games like the Hyrule Warriors port and Nu-Pokemon run at really shit framerates, or in HW's case, have far fewer enemies on screen. Depending on the price though, the old one wouldn't be a bad deal either.
>Does the 3DS accept old DS Lite carts?
Yes. There are also apps that let you run DS games off the SD card, but it's iffy with some games.

>>15142594
Every 3ds excepts ds carts.
When it comes to ds games you should hack your 3ds and get a flashcard with a 8gb microsd in it.
You will be able to fit every ds game you would ever want to play on there, trust me, I did it myself.
7a4e8b No.15142633
The best model of 3DS to get would be the new 2DS OP, XL models have a very large pixel size making the image look very rough, while the 2DS almost has a proper 240p appearance due to the way the display works without 3D. It's a good size and has the benefit of the new 3ds hardware performance (which is essentially as useful as the expansion pack was back during the n64, 3 games require it, some games have extra features but not much else.)
I want you to review the 3DS library closely however, in the past few years releases have slowed down significantly with, AFAIK, the last good third party release being Ever Oasis from a year ago. First party isn't as strong as it used to be either as Nintendo winds down support and the system itself didn't get very many good games as it is. I think there's some absolutely worth playing like Kid Icarus Uprising but you may be surprised coming from previous Nintendo handhelds when it comes to the size of the library.

Thanks for the replies guys. This is the one I wanted to buy. Will I be able to play the new Pokemon on it? Unfortunately I don't have the 2DS available and I don't wanna order from the Internet since that's always a risk…and ideally I will be going to the pawn shop tomorrow.
