Tell me /v/, what are some games with worlds worth exploring, such that you could actually be interested in the details the developers put into them and the minor stories that lie within them.

I remember some old rpg-s and jrpg-s had that, but I cannot seem to find that in a modern game. It could be that I am aging, but we know damn well that quality has dropped considerably and there are more suits working on games than actual devs.

If you believe that no game world is worth exploring , the what would make a game world worth exploring ? The details put into things ? The attention to the actually functional part of the world ? The music ? The characters ?

Please do not suggest shit like skyrim or mmorpgs. They are just one step above no man's sky in terms of how dull and uninspired they are. Just looking at the soulless dolls in skyrim kills the fun for me, while the supposedly varied cities of mmorpgs, quickly turn into generic repetitive bunch of shops and NPCs with no purpose.

Space hulk: deathwing.

Every single ship has interesting little things if you look at them and know about 40k, theres even loading sentinels and menial servitors.

Unironically, Assassin's Creed 2 had a pretty comfy setting. It was probably the strongest entry in the series. AC3 was good too, but it felt more like a bunch of disassociated maps stitched together. So for you, OP, I suggest AC2.

Do you even have time to look around in space hulk ?

Vermintide, being something similar gives you very little time to explore, specially since you are tied to a party.

The dishonored games. The best part is when you're done disposing of the guard and just look around for stuff. Lots of nook and crannies, as well as small stories associated with them.

>Dishonored 2

>You're in a mansion stuck in a time anomaly and can switch between past, when it was all shiny and full of people, and present where it's almost completely deserted save for bloodflies

>A vault in the present is completely buried in a bloodfly next and can't be opened

>But if you go into the past, there's a dog's body around with a note saying it's infested by bloodflies

>Incinerate the dog and the safe is freed in the present

Or

>Hospital map

>There's clearly a basement indicated on the map but nothing seems to lead to it, a note says it was condemned years ago because of flooding

>The only way to access it is to cut the elevator cables and make it smash right through the floor to the basement

>In it, you find a little backstory for Granny Rags from the first game

Arcanum, Bloodlines, Gothic II, Elona. I'd also throw in Ultima VII if you can tolerate the camera - I found that particular variant of isometric nauseating.

>Arcanum

I'm glad someone else said this.

The devs definitely meant Arcanum to be explored.

Most of my fondness for the game comes from the memories of taking my time to go places and explore the dungeons, caves, towns and cities, and you're rewarded everytime you do so.

Starcraft: Brood War back when it had a soul before Blizzard ripped out its fucking soul and lobotomized anything unique about it in to some generic space fantasy with the writings from a retarded child.

Something about Starcraft and its expansion, Brood War, just gave off this air of desperation from each of the races. You can tell each character in that game is subtly strained in their own way and the pain they experience is expertly translated in to their personality.

It's a god damn shame it got so corrupted in to retardation.

That's how it's always been, a ripoff of other sci-fi settings, especially 40k.

I shit you not, if youre a fan of CRPGs i am highly recommending Tyranny if youre sole purpose is to have a great setting/world. It has good combat (kinda easy but fun specially with spellcasters) too and decent writing (somewhat pozzed but bearable)

my dear, poor Tolkien. I am glad you are spared from seeing what will become of your work.

GTA SA.has one of my favorite vidya worlds, not just because it's diverse and packed and was particularly large back in the day but the dated graphics which were already dated back then give the environments unique charm.

Geneforge is another interesting game, especially because of the worldbuilding. Fallout needs to be mentioned too, and not the theme park shit Bethesda keeps doing, it's a tragedy all the potential got squandered by the retarded, ugly step-child of the industry.

Evolve actually had an incredibly immersive world at launch; as the developers were heavily inspired by Dune in some aspects;

wildlife was smarter than most players

maps looked lush and full of life; like places that could of pheasibly existed

To think there could of been even more if 2K didnt ruin things. They literally butchered what could of literally been game of the decade and given everybody pause; It would of even tried to kill Warframe AND TF2 if the concept art is to be believed

sadly the page is fucking dead

I like to imagine how many great games we could have if they were made for singleplayer, instead of wasting all the time, resources and creativity on shit like multiplayer, a gameplay mode that peaked with Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament and will never reach those heights again.

a6a095 No.15118887

>>15118852

I loved the environments in 1 & 2, the graphics were simple sure but they nailed the atmosphere. Bethshit Fallout went way too overboard with the 50s shit, Fallout was supposed to have 50s esque references to the future, not be literally 1950s with advanced technology.

Evolve was meant to be a multiplayer-focused game anyway (like your aforementioned Q3 and UT). Playing as the monster was also very critical to anybody even giving a shit about the game.

There was so much planned (multiple open worlds, vastly diffrent types of fauna, localzied villages, etc.) it's unbelievable that 2k forced them to scrap 5 years of worldbuilding and work for a product built and rushed out the door in less than a year.

Not in a game like Fallout, that made it a point to be verbose.
