e07e97 No.15102309

This remake is absolute shit. Atlus added their own OC who is, by far, the most annoying character I’ve ever seen. They replaced the original art with added generic animushit portraits, and then sold the original portraits as DLC for $3. Another DLC lets you get level up booklets from every single battle. ANOTHER DLC one gives you the backstory quests to Nemesia. They added quests that actively conflict with existing quests. They changed half the dialog for no actual reason. The entire original ending of the game is now the “bad end”, and has been replaced by one of their own creation.

I'm going to start with one of the quests they added, which shits on the original game for no reason.

>An assassin tries to kill Raul

>His secretary dies protecting him

>This gives him a reason to start fighting again

>The remake adds a side quest where you get him a dress for her

>the dress somehow protects her

>THE DRESS PROTECTS HER FROM AN ASSASSIN

>she only gets a sprained ankle

>They don't change the part in the main story

>Raul is now reinvigorated over a sprained ankle

>He spends time brooding over her ankle months afterwards

They mangled the translation. For some reason someone went through nearly every line and just added words, did a control+F on words they didn't like. "Diary" is now "Journal". "Prob'ly" is now "Prolly". The ape (fuck if I remember his name) now throws around the word “problematic”.

“The woman’s lost her mind!” -> “She’s lost her mind!”

“I’m sorry, princess…” -> “I’m sorry, M'lady…”

The writers absolutely hate informal sayings.

“(The moment I saw her, it hit me like a ton of bricks!)” -> “(It feels as if I’ve been hit by a ton of bricks!)”

Anything like that has been changed. I don’t know why. Most of these dialog changes are near the beginning of the game, indicating they ran out of time, gave up, or they just wanted things to seem changed because this is a shitty cashgrab.

File: 98a94dcf26bed60⋯.jpg (24.5 KB, 257x525, 257:525, nemesia.jpg)

Characters are repeatedly shocked at things they already know. In the post-game, the “””real””” ending, Nemesia tells everyone that the war started because of the desertification. They all take turns acting shocked. They’ve all consciously acknowledged that half the game ago. At the very beginning, Stocke is outright told by Heiss. Both of his party remembers acknowledge that the densification is the only reason they’re at war. Yet they pull this shit so they can throw in shitty OC character into the plot’s real ending and she can tell everyone exactly what to do just by knowing everything.

The OC “Nemesia” is, by far, the worst part of this game. She can teleport. She has a magic time ship that floats on the ocean. She knows just about everything there is to know about everything, and only chooses to let the other characters know at the stupidest times. It's not clear how she knows these things, either. Nobody asks. Before sending you to another timeline, she tells you a vague bit of information about it, indicating she knows more but is choosing not to show it. One example being her telling you about a "certain soldier" causing trouble. Just tell us who it is. The worst part is that the characters become completely braindead (or mind controlled) in her presence, and will never ask a single question about anything. They do not care that she is actively hiding information, and never think to ask. She also has a "teacher" or "historian" shtick. That means she relates everything to homework or grades. A veteran soldier risks his life in another timeline? A+! Gold star! Good job, kiddo! To make it worse, she also has a habit of dumping a whole bunch of pointless narrative on you at completely random times.

Atlas butchered the ending to make it revolve around their OC. The original ending, which was bittersweet, is now completely replaced by what the npcs call the "proper" ending. They could not make it worse if they tried. This is what you get at the very climax, right before Stocke willingly walks to his death.

>DING

>Nemesia has a new quest for you!

>DING

>The special grinding dungeon has a message for you!

>You can now buy more items!

>DING

>Demi-god thing: Would you like to save your game, just in case?

I just now realized she's named after a goddamn flower

e07e97 No.15102317

The sidequests they added are horrible design. You can access them at any time, regardless of what you've done or what is going on, so Stocke is absolutely not allowed to have any sort of independent thought. Nemesia sends him to do something, he does it, she gives him a condescending A+ GOLD STAR YOU DID IT. No other character has a stupid gimmick, or is nearly this grating. My god. The quests almost always go like this.

>start the quest

>nemesia tells stocke to do something

>he obeys without question

>something stupid pops up

>he has to go to the main timeline to talk to an NPC

>fight Palomides

You actually fight Palomides 4 separate times. Here’s an example.

>start the quest

>nemesia tells stocke to get an artifact in Granorg

>he obeys without question

>two people are killed by a crumbling wall

>go back to the main timeline

>point out a crack to a soldier

>he immediately fixes it, saving them in the alternate timeline

>this is the same granorg where the soldiers are hostile and drunk at best

>where dead bodies liter the street

>they’re extremely concerned about proactively fixing a wall

>the two characters crushed under a wall go on to force fucking HEISS out of the castle

File: f4134a649397819⋯.png (230.78 KB, 502x499, 502:499, squish.png)

The new writers actively forget the allure of RH decisions. You go to the past to try and change the future. Decisions have some sense behind him. Here, you decide whether to stay together or split up. If you stay together, the world ends and you get scolded. The original game had decisions like “Do we wait for the spy?” or “Do we trust Hugo?” Half of the bad ends are related to Hugo.

They also forgot the entire point of the game. One of the OC quests has a bad end where the desertification is stopped, but Cyrus starts looting and raiding other towns because they get too powerful. What the fuck are they thinking? That’s a good end! They stopped the desertification! They repeatedly forget that past the first chapter, Stocke’s goal isn’t “Allistar is the good country, help them win” it’s “stop the desertification”. Even fucking Rosche deserts his country to save the world.

Part of the new postgame requires you to side with Hugo. Even though, in the main game, every time you’ve done that has ended in him killing everyone. You’ve been warned, repeated, not to trust Hugo. Every time you do, everyone dies. Except if you give him a special item (immediately after he tries to kill you (again)) he’ll suddenly have a change of heart and leave everyone alone. It’s complete nonsense.

Just visually, the game has degraded. There’s an annoying sprite warping/distortion effect that wasn’t in the original. Characters now bunch together for some reason, making them walk in giant clumps instead of nearby. It was clearly made for a smaller screen. Things that were meant to take up the entire screen, like crowds, graves, groups of soldiers, now only take up a tiny amount of it. So instead of a whole screen of soldiers you now have a rectangle of 12. They managed to fuck a few things up, too, with sprites randomly being on top of the screen instead of behind walls.

I can't express how much Nemesia and her self-insert historian schtick pisses me off. Returning an artifact? It's like returning books! Finish a quest? You get an A+! An A+ answer! Anything anything remotely good happens it's A+. Goddamn. You also run into her repeatedly in the quests. In one, an artifact is taking on her form. In another, you meet a younger version of her in what I think is meant to be a shocking revelation.

Good changes:

Party members get more moves early on, making it more interesting

Enemies don’t respawn every time a cutscene triggers (this is only noticeable in the endgame where one triggers every time you kill a cube)

Can drag blocks diagonally

Some typos fixed

A few extra teleport points to cut down on backtracking

Stocke can move in 8 directions

Recolored some NPCs

Other gameplay changes I forgot (but most of them were good)

Questionable changes:

Enemies drop less gold (probably because donut steel hands it out like candy)

Certain types of equipment no longer have a defense or speed penalty

Magic nerfed severely

Selective voice acting

Deadly mode (virtually unplayable without the experience DLC)

Why:

Every time you start the game (or get a game over) a bunch of characters read out "Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology"

They went to the effort of giving Eruca long hair, and pasting it onto all her sprites

Thanks for the explanation. I wasn't really interested in this game though it didn't have to do with the artstyle. I enjoyed the original from what I've played of it but never finished it. The new art style isn't bad but it doesn't fit the setting and tone like the original did.

Also this whole OC things reminds how much people hated the female MC they added into Persona 3 (or was it 4?) in one of the remakes. There must be one writer at ATLUS who loves making a Mary Sue to self insert into.

The re-translation deserves more attention. I'm not sure exactly what to call it, they just butcher some of the original dialog and leave the rest in. Some changes are subtle, but still manage to remove any personality from the NPCs.

“Oh… It’s you, Stocke. What can I do ya for?” -> “Oh… It’s you, Stocke. What can I do for ya?”

“Yeah! The li'l tykes’ll be sad if you quit, Bro.” -> “Yeah! The li'l kiddos’ll be sad if you quit, Bro.”

“Oi! I’m the Desert Crow, and I’ll be takin’ your treasure!” -> “I’m one of the Desert Crows, and I’ll be takin’ your treasure!”

Other changes are equally pointless, where they add dialog (possibly to inflate the word count).

“Then we’ll need to steal a few uniforms first.” Adds “Without being caught, of course.” As if anyone was confused, there.

“A false report? What should it be about?” -> “What do you want this false report to be about?”

Sometimes they make the lines shorter but I can’t ever explain why. It’s like they’re compelled to molest anything they come in contact with. They cannot leave it alone, they just have to fuck with it.

“Stocke… I’m begging you.” -> “Stocke… Please”

More questionable changes:

Support skills, where allies can attack or use moves at random while in reserve. In practice all it does is make you wait while they use a status effect on an immune enemy, kill something that was already going to die, or kill something you were trying to keep alive. They’re also completely random in nature, which is out of place in a game like this. There’s no misses, and crits are frequent with only moderate damage.

Selectively voiced lines feel out of place. The main characters talk, fully voiced, to NPCs who only grunt in response which is a bit funny. I disabled voices somewhere in the second chapter, but it also disables enemy noises like the clucking of fire chickens.

Having more portraits should be good, but now it’s jarring how they just swap out a tiny square texture where their face is and call it a new portrait. They also completely use the wrong emotion sometimes, which is probably leftover from the changing the Jap version’s dialog completely and forgetting to change the face. The artist is capable of good portraits, which makes it worse. Sometimes the voiced lines are slightly different than the transcribed lines this part might be autism

You still have to deal with the reworked dialog, support skills, sprite warping, gold reduction, magic nerfs, and slight tweaks in the "original" story to make room for their new ending. There's some smaller issues, like the strange tiling issues, how everyone clumps together, and the tiny armies that used to fill the screen on the original NDS. It's not prominent, but if you notice it, it is a downgrade. It's really a shame because other than things they've intentionally fucked up, the game is better. I'm pretty sure they removed the ability to walk so they

>stocke has diagonal sprites

<characters clump together and clip through each other in cutscenes

<sprites obviously warp and deform

This looks like a nitpick, but one of the hellspider's attacks just has it levitate straight into the air. This is much less obvious in the original, because you can't see the entire spider and the screen pans during the battle. In the remaster, the screen doesn't move at all because you can see the entire battlefield. There's countless issues caused by the fact that they don't design around the larger screen space when they're not just making it worse. Sometimes they move the npcs CLOSER together, too, which makes absolutely no sense. It has to be a glitch that re-positioned everything that they never bothered to address.

I still don't get what the logic process for some of these remakes are. I mean, obviously the main idea is more profit (no shit), but not only are they remaking games to be worse than the originals, but the DS originals of Radiant History and SMT: Strange Journey are still playable on the 3DS via backwards compatibility anyhow. There's no unavailability towards being able to still readily play the originals on the system (and at least in the US, that extended to physical copies, as the games have been reprinted), the amount of time hasn't passed to the point you've got some massive leap in graphical quality (contrast with PS1 games remade for the PS2), nor did the games warrant being remade on the gameplay end either. Thus we get these remakes that I see no real reason for existing other than Atlus trying to line their coffers with some easy money off existing IPs.

Also actually seen a few anons adamant about buying and playing these versions, because apparently the originals are too much of a hassle to buy where they are/they don't want to emulate DS games.

I have to wonder, was she that much a pain in the ass in the Japanese original for Golden, or was she "punched up" for the western release?

>>15102890

With games that have extended scripts, it's probably best to go back to the Japanese script to double check things for what needs to be translated for the first time, scripting calls, etc. That said, it's also good know when a line was fine the first time around, and thus reuse it, unless the game was really off the mark the first time around (compare Muramasa, which also had the factor of changing hands from Ignition to Aksys between versions).

The goym can also buy chibi portraits for the low, low price of $3. The main characters only have one static sprite, with no emotions, and they didn't bother to draw this shit for all the portraits. So it will jarringly switch between the new animu style and static chibi images. The kind of idiot that buys DLC portraits won't care about this, but it's another sign of how much of a horrendous cash grab this is that filling in Chibi drawings is too much work for them.

>2018 and STILL no remaster, no port, no sequel, no nothing about Radiata Stories since 2005

Small correction; The chibi portraits do have some other expressions, I just didn't use them long enough to ever come across one.

713296 No.15103413

>>15103385

As far as I'm aware there's only a handful of staff crossed over between games. Beyond that, even if some of them did join Atlus, Radiata was Tri-Ace developed and Square Enix owned. Not likely that they'd be able to make a sequel to it, or if one did get cleared at present, it probably wouldn't have the same staff behind it (and would have modern Square-Enix calling the shots).

Also, some games are better left alone. A port is one thing (and chances are SE would find some way to fuck that up), but even remasters seem prone to being worse than the originals, whether it's due to graphical glitches, bad conversion, or gameplay "tweaks" to make the games more tolerable to a newer audience. Stop trying to monkey paw things.

What the hell are you on about?

>I can't help but wonder if maybe, for whatever asinine reason, they decided to retranslate the original JP script entirely from scratch without even looking at the old translation?

<If that was the case some of the dialogue wouldn't be unaltered or just have a word or two swapped out.

If they retranslated the entire dialogue, they wouldn't have a lot of dialogue that is either identical or with just a word swapped out.

Ok, what you saying in your previous post was fucking retarded then because you said point blank

>If that was the case some of the dialogue wouldn't be unaltered

To a question of it being a completely different translation, learn English.

a9cfa3 No.15103871

>>15103822

Are you just pretending or something? Yes, if it was a completely different translation, it wouldn't still be partially identical or with minor changes. Since there are parts that were left untouched, it proves or at at the very least very strongly suggests that the new translation was based on the old one. I don't know if you're reading the wrong posts or something or if you just have severe problems with understanding context, but I think I'm done with you.

What they did to Heiss is unforgivable.

Maybe they are ruining the the good art of old games on purpose? they did the same to strange journey.

They want to pander to the generic JRPG/Persona audience. What's funny is that Soul Hackers' remade art is faithful to the original plus both Devil Survivor remasters having their original art intact.
