R1
Didn't really need to watch .Hack//Sign to get the backstory.
Kite plays with his friend who is a pretty big deal named Orca and then he goes into a coma.
Teams up with a tsundere named Black Rose who wants to save her brother who also went into a coma.
Game was based on fragment which was based on a bunch of bullshit fantasy poems/story by a german lady who died and was adapted by her grief stricken husband.
If I remember correctly the problem is he built and A.I. to give birth to an A.I. but the first A.I. realizes that if it does that it will be outmoded.
Kite is pretty milktoast standard JRPG protagonist.
Story goes into the very obvious War Games scenario.
I liked the aesthetic more.
R2 on the other-hand practically requires you to watch .Hack//Roots to understand the full bredth of character motivations.
Otherwise it is a lot of
>Who the fuck is Shino?
>Why does he give any kind of a shit about Ovan?
It really should have just made you play a cliffnotes version of a roots.
The story is fairly similar, but with multiple chosen ones.
Haseo is a angsty black & red loving bag of shit because the anime factor was just cranked up to 11.
Has a lot more furries and anime style of telling a lot of the same story.
Gameplay wise though R2's combat is far superior and I enjoy the more limited maps.
Having a character that is multiple classes is more enjoyable than just twinblade.
