Why the fuck they force it on by default, even if you don't own a PSVR, is beyond me. Why is is not used for the web browser? Why is it not used for gestures? It could've easily been a great addition, hell I originally was looking forward to seeing what they'd do with the touch pad but they ended up ignoring it like everyone else. The only thing the touch bar does is make the DS4's battery utter dog shit because it's always looking for user input.
The only game I ever played that actually used the speaker was TPP and GZs where the iDroid voice would talk out of the controller. It was kinda cool but like any gimmick it wasn't cool enough to justify its existence.
The light bar is just dumb. If you don't have a PSVR headset or a PS camera which 99% of people don't it's the most pointless of all the things on the DS4. I do like how on the newer models of the DS4 the light bar bleeds through the front in a little slit on the top of the touch pad. I think if they got rid of the light on the front of the controller and kept it shining through on the top for the sake of identifying which controller is controller #1, 2, 3, etc. akin to the 360 controller's circular light indicator I'd be okay with that.

That's wrong. Bluetooth needs a variety of audio codecs to try and optimize its protocols and transfer rates for audio (LDAC by Sony has a transfer rate of 990kbps vs 328kbps of SBC for example.) Then there's AptX and Aptx HD as well. Wired sets don't really need these intermediate codecs

I've been beating the hell out of my DualShock 3 for a decade and it still works fine, no problems whatsoever. My DualShock 4 had the rubber on the left thumbstick fall off, and the stick itself got worn out within a couple of years. And I don't even play more than a few hours in a session. So it would be nice for them to use stronger material next time.

Here's how you do it. before cutting features so it's cheaper to bring to market
- Give it 6 face buttons
- Make R1 and L1 have analogue control like on the PS2 had.
- BRING BACK THE FUCKING SELECT BUTTON
- replace the touch pad with a touch screen and make it a bit bigger.
- Make the controller it's own low-powered handheld.
- Analogue paddles on the handles.
- Touch slider in the ridge between Triangle and R1 that wraps around the side to map volume controlls to or other gameplay features (EG: scope zoom on a gun or fast scroll down an inventory list)
Now you can play Fighting games reliably.
Now you can map all flight controlls to the pad (not just rudder left rudder right but also strafing like in Elite Dangerous)
Now you can capitalise on the handheld market.
Now you can be more welcoming to simulator ports.

Stick in the lower position allows you to claw grip using your thumb on the stick and index finger on the buttons/dpad. Stick in the upper position forces you to use the stick with your index finger if you also want to touch the buttons, which is nearly impossible. Any percieved potential comfort gain of a raised left stick is instantly lost if you ever have to touch the Dpad and stick at the same time.

More buttons, inbuilt macro capabilities and ability to store multiple key-binding profiles with consoles and PCs so that one can bind multiple key presses for different functions. It'll be very useful for proper vehicle simulation programs, for example Gran Turismo 5 allows one to tune some configs of a car while racing. I disagree. I find that the xbox layout is ideal for 3d platformers, action RPGs and other genres where camera adjustment is only needed rarely. I think games like Fable and Dark Souls are served best by the layout of an Xbox 360 controller.
In games that do the camera work for you, or where you are able to lock on to an enemy, your fingers naturally rest where they are needed: on the left joystick and on the face buttons. The dualshock design is superior when the preferred method of character control is the D-pad rather than the analogue stick.
That said, I don't think stick layout is all that important in a controller. It's pretty trivial to swap from one to another and acclimatise after an hour or two. The things that are more important to me are comfort, reliability, and build quality.

I was not talking about improving the controllers so that it'll just fit racing games better, but so that one can bind more actions into the controllers. The matter in GT5 is that in a racing session, you have to tune your vehicle using D-Pad while steering the car using left analog stick; it's difficult to do since you have to move your thumbs fast or you'll fail. With new buttons within the reach of ring and pinky fingers, that tuning process can be done safer.
Also I mentioned flight sims too, ever saw a real life airplane cockpit? It contains hundreds of buttons, and in flight sims almost all of the buttons are bound to a keyboard. As a regular pilot, virtual or real, you're expected to make use of at least 75% of them regularly. If we can put macro functions into controllers for consoles, we can go around some of the limitations of control binding by binding combination of button presses into whole different function, e.g. press Square button for Lever A, press Circle button for Lever B, press both Square and Circle button for Lever C, that sort of thing. In my proposed controller model boasting 24 buttons + 2 analog sticks (in contrast to the current trending 12 button layout), binding hundreds of actions into a controller will be much more viable.
