What build you rolling?
What do you want in Nioh 2?
I'm doing a Raikiri based spirit build that uses buffs and debuffs. Pretty fun.
Enemy variety and better level design is the big things the sequel needs. It's confirmed to feature character creation so I hope it lets you make a loli. Tome's height and frame doesn't really break anything if you transform into her in the first game.

The setting is great, but mostly vertical combat, come on Team Ninja. And better story, just a shame that the Sengoku era with monsters which isn't original, but they had a lot of designs and settings that were cool. And balance the fuck out of the game so cheese builds aren't a thing.

on that note aside I want basically nothing changed. The game worked fantastic, and was the best of it's genre by a mile, It fixed the long waiting periods to do nothing and recover stamina from souls games, it fixed character advancement issues, NG+ added things and actually changed enemy attack patterns unlike souls games, The co-op was hands down the best co-op in recent years.
Only real thing I'd want is for weapons not to have such a strong set tier of Good/bad/nodon'tpicktonfa. Outside of that more enemy variety and more stupid sets like the one that gives stone damage +5000%

Then after a while I switched to Hayabusa and I stuck with it until I got bored, I think I got to the second region of Way of the Nioh and then got completely burnt out.
When it comes to what I want for Nioh 2, the only things I really want is better enemy variety and more stages. A change to how late game's enemy stats scale. It's been a while since I've played it but humanoids in the lategame had assloads of toughness and ki and frankly ended up to annoying to fight to not want to cheese them with something like Iai or the spear dash to knock them down and get free hits in. On the flipside the demon enemies became stale but an absolute joke once you had 2 elements on deck.
The ailments are cool but lategame felt way too reliant on them.

That makes for interesting gameplay mechanics as repeating firearms are a thing by that point. Nippon hadn't even developed embed related yet so most will still use muzzle loaders, but it would add revolvers. Making revolvers weakish but fast and usable point-blank (probably have them replace bows) could work. Weak but fast could be used for 1866 Winchester (44 Henry rimfire is effectively pistol caliber, though the longer barrel will add power).

With it being the second major civil war in Japland (outside of some of the peasant rebellions), it is the only campaign really long enough to support a similar sized campaign as to Tokugawa campaign if you have the Boshin War as the main game and the actual Satsuma Rebellion as the inevitable 3DLCs
We know Wirriam is immortal (as long as Saoirse is alive), Maria is probs also immortal; and personally I'd like to see a game where the protag cannot win the greater conflict because history happened. If Wirriam was fighting with the doomed Samrai Waryors because of his allyship with the Tokugawa clan and Maria was with Meiji, it'd be an interesting dynamic if Wirriam kills Maria and save Japan from Soulstones 2.0, but ultimately loses the conflict as a whole.
Only issue is that you get a fucking custom character which ruins all of this because Native American samurai customisation is more important than a possibly interesting narrative. Call Nioh 1's story shit all you want, it's only barrier to entry was to read a fucking history book to get a grasp of what's going on. It'd be like playing a game about the Crusades and whining that you don't know who Richard the Lionheart was.

I remember always having this 0.3s stutter whenever I walked past an specific line. It probably has to do with the fact that I don't have an ssd. Still the games fault, that stutter is a sign of lack of optimization. I also found what seems to be a bug, when you break something with dynamic reflections on it will sometimes give you like 3 seconds of 10 fps.
Other than these, the only other problem I had was the game close on me like 4 times in 110 hours of gameplay on all kinds of different places, from the map to a bossfight. Pretty weird.
Other than that, yeah, maybe it requires more than it should for the quality of its graphic display. But that has been the case for most games in the last few years. I'd say that Nioh is above average when you compare it to most recent games.

I'm hoping for expanded move sets from your human abilities, like what we see from some of the bosses. Granted, if you can stack living weapon and youkai form, then you are just getting crazy. Depending on how that goes, it will either be good, but unnecessary to anyone but shitty players like myself, or just something extra to use. This was also an exceptionally bad idea when you combine that with the custom characters, because it would be easier to do multiple forms without having to worry about a transformation that is more than a hair color change.

You do but they're much tighter and you are expected to use block situationally. Typically, use the low stance for i-frame abuse dodging. High stance dodge will move you farther but the i-frames are timed differently; mid stance dodge is the worst of the three but it has the best blocking capabilities to make up for it. When you're stunlocked you're expected to block and then dodge instead of just roll out of it like you would in Dark souls. If blocking leaves you winded then you might want to wear heavier armor. Toughness is the stat that determines how much ki(stamina) loss is reduced when being attacked or blocking, and is typically higher on heavier armor. You want at least 40-50 toughness on any build and the soft cap is 200, with higher-end toughness focused builds getting around 400 and being nigh stagger/ki loss-immune.

I'm a nigger who plays this shit like Bloodborne. I use dual katanas, put skill points into the dual katana skills Mind's Eye and Mind's Eye II, and almost always maintain low stance save for certain situations. Mind's Eye adds a shitload of i-frames to low stance dodging by making your character do a special sidestep if hit by an attack at the end of a low stance dodge. It effectively lets you easily dodge through most attacks. I combine this with whatever I can to lower dodge or low stance dodge ki usage.

Only the Ki Pulse: Heaven buff increases the damage of your next hit; the Man buff makes your next block not cost Ki and the Earth buff makes your next dodge not cost Ki. However, some lazy fuck just copy-pasted the Ki Pulse: Heaven description for all three skills. I've also had the game crash on me once every three hours or so, and the very final mission in particular has about a 50% chance of crashing after loading the final boss room every single time until you restart the mission entirely and try again. It's not exactly guaranteed, but if you go for the low-risk option then level 20 is the best floor to start and then end with since it's the last floor you can go to after beating WotD which unlocks ethereals. If you want a guaranteed chance I think an item gets the best upgrades level and +value-wise if you take it through 4 floors, but it could've been through just 3 floors, I haven't played Nioh in quite a while.
>I thought shit would be rerolled for better shit.
Nope, you pretty much have to hope you get an accessory with overall good enchantments or at least enchantments that are useful to your build and playstyle, which is complete fucking bullshit. Finding good inheritables for weapons and armor is piss-easy compared to this shit. At least when you find the exact inheritables you want and then soul match them, you can start just selling off your shit and not giving a damn anymore, but I always have to sift through dozens of accessories to see if one has good enchantments overall, but they're usually all complete garbage. At least once you get an accessory with decent enchantments, you can upgrade its level in the abyss, but accessories are still complete bullshit because it actually is Diablo loot. Everything else is at least under your control when it comes to what enchantments they get.

Diablo loot needs to go. The only reasons why it had it I can think of is that they wanted to be more different from Souls, or to keep people grinding. The gear bonus lines can safely be discarded, or at least be something you add to gear at a smith without any RNG involved. Having to sort through hundreds of items every two levels was not fun. The soul match reduction trait ONLY works when you use it as the soul matching material (aka the item that gets consumed), not as the base. It's useless as an actual weapon since you lose a trait slot, you're meant to just use it to upgrade your shit way cheaper.

Yes, inheritable traits have an arrow before them. I don't remember if both items or just the material need to be at full familiarity. Also, you can't have a trait which doesn't match a particular piece of gear, for example you used to be able to put +attack on every armor piece, but now they patched it so that it only works on gauntlets as it was intended iirc. Also, you can't have two of the same kind of trait, so for example you can't put both change to attack (Heart) and change to attack (Strength) on the same weapon.

Use Soul Match. The ability must be an inheritable trait and the piece of equipment must have max familiarity. Also if there is a trait that conflicts with it on the weapon you are trying to transfer it to it won't work so you'll have to reforge that conflicting trait away first.

You don't really need to rely on it, you can go through the whole game with your own build, but LW builds are easy mode. I personally play a Dragon Ninja build and I'm having a lot of fun with it since you can easily mix your playstyle up almost on the fly since you can do LW memery or one shot memery depending on what onmyo magic and ninjitsu you bring with you. Dev revenants won't respawn once defeated until you leave the level and return. Fortunately there is a here's an relatively easy if grindy way to speed up the process.
>find the revenant that drops the helmet
>save a the shrine nearest to the spawn, opening up any short cuts and defeating all non respawning youkai first
>now fight the revenant
>if it doesn't drop the helmet or doesn't drop it at a high enough rarity then quit to title and reload
>rinse and repeat until you get your headgear
If you are going for high level then I would suggest grind on WotD or above. Alternately you could use the abyss to defile and raise their rarity. There is also a few special head pieces that don't drop from revenants or as mission rewards. The only really hard to acquire ones are the two you get from kappa and the one you get from mimics.

It says "'Sengoku dying game' 'Nioh 2' start". Sengoku technically just means "civil war", but I've never seen it used for anything outside of the Sengoku era (indeed the Nipponese Wikipedia redirects 戦国 to 戦国時代). Guess it will still be in the Sengoku era. No idea how that's going to work.

Kato is the go to for staying in LW the longest. Theoretically you could use Saoirse as well with her special abilities but I've never been able to quite get her to work.
You need stats on you equipment that cause you to absorb amrita when you attack. Pleiades and extraction talismans and sake are needed as well as are a good supply of spirit stones.

I'm using 4/5 Iga Ninja and 5/5 god of war for my build, this forces me to use both Iga Ninja weapons. Trouble is that I have to attempt to farm that specific fucking Kusarigama because the soul matching costs are just so fucking ridiculous (for what reason? It just adds immense grind) it's not even worth considering.
Looking at my gear I remember just sitting and grinding for that retarded Kusarigama with no luck, my current one is fucking 100 levels below most of my other stuff. What am I meant to do when my build requires me to use 1 very specific weapon? Not to mention how much fucking amrita I'm going to need to pour into the new one just to give it good stats.
Maybe I'll just go for something else. I remember the god of war set being pretty good all around set, might make a new one and go LW. But I probably can't afford to craft shit so I'll still have to play a ton with my current setup.
Interest in the game is starting to go down after just familiarizing myself with the menus and my situation/gear

T3 bonus adds damage to your melee attacks, doesn't help when you spam shurikens

T5 does nothing for your shurikens
T6 actively hampers your shurikens and makes them hit like peanuts (obviously meant to synergize with T3)
T7 does nothing for your shurikens
Meanwhile 4 piece Iga Ninja is pretty fantastic buff to throwing for the small investment of 3 pieces. And my God of war adds some much needed tankiness to round the build out a bit more.

Is there a good way to set up tonfa to work well against youkai?
00db10 No.15178649
>>15177281
With tonfa there's pretty much never a reason not to have sarutobi's gunsticks as your base. From there you can boost up the exploding damage by rolling for skill damage +20% or something like that. With the remaining 3 or 4 slots you should have. you can do what you want and find what works for you. I at one point had extra build up to the fire and added lightning damage to it. The tonfa then became able to inflict dual element damage on beefier enemies like youkai and bosses would almost always get inflicted with confusion or discord, whatever the fuck it's called. This is much easier done with talismans though so I changed it. I burnt myself out on Nioh just at the start of WotN pic related is my tonfa set up.
Tonfa work fine against yokai but you need to be quite good at dodging around enemies to maintain your momentum against them. Personally this is why I find them to be the most fun weapon in the game.

Anyone else dislike that the way Nioh is built up, you're never really meant to make new characters?
When switching to a completely new build and playstyle in Dark Souls for example I enjoy learning the movesets and figuring out how the build works best and what stats I need by simply playing.
In Nioh it feels completely overwhelming to switch to a new build and different weapon when my character is lvl 400+ something especially with all the different unlockable moves. It took me to this point to (for the most part anyway) fully understand my main weapon and how to abuse it.
And then I can't even find an appropriate challenge, if I tackle the same content with a build that I don't know how to play yet and stats aren't yet refined because of a lack of experience, I'll get fucked up.
If I go back to do easier lower lvl content I don't truly learn the build because I'm outgearing it.
This becomes worse now that I haven't touched the game for many months and want to get back into it, I have no idea what I'm doing and in most other games I'd just start a new character. But the smithing text grinds and the way NG+ and the abyss works just makes that a really retarded decision.

Your only valid criticism is
>The aesthetic is shit to me (dont like anime)
>only got a few stages in before I was bored
>too simple and easy
Put those together and consider that the game holds your hand while teaching you the basic mechanics. You unlock a whole lot of different moves and you'll learn how to (ab)use the different stances and their respective attacks in order to tackle the increasingly difficult bosses. If you don't, you'll run up against a wall.
But I do agree that the introduction missions don't need to be as soft-handed as they are, the first few bosses and missions could be amped up a bit. Something like Demon's Souls first boss in the tutorial is great fun to go up against as a beginner while the button masher that is in Nioh is a complete joke.

I'm not saying he's right by equating the aesthetic in Nioh with anime, but enjoying an aesthetic is entirely subjective. Hence the only "valid" criticism.

They're some of the only decent armor sets you can get in the earlygame. WotW is genuinely good, Red Demon isn't great but the only other earlygame light armor set you can get is Iga Ninja which useless for non-ninjutsu builds.

Practice. Get an active parry skill that only activates on a perfect block, like Haze or Impenetrability, then go through a level trying to use it as much as possible to learn the parry timing and what kinds of attacks you can parry. You can't parry yokai grapple attacks, just so you know.
