I'm glad I only played Sega and PS2 as a kid so I can experience all these computer RPGs from the 80's and 90's for the first time now, when mainstream video games are mostly crap. I have a good 20 years worth of games here. I'm only getting started.
What old genres have you just gotten into, anon?

I've been playing games since about 1980, so I didn't miss out on much of anything that I didn't choose to avoid. The problem is, I don't have the option of playing things from the past, as I've played pretty much everything I wanted to as it was coming out. Good on you, for being able to pick through the treasures of the past without having to sift through mountains of garbage. You're living the dream.

Christ, it's somewhere in the multiple thousands, as I own just over six hundred physical games, and was no stranger to emulation in the nineties. Probably why I seldom play anything now. I'd played almost everything already, unless I genuinely don't like it.

It's just a shame the number of genres that died as the industry streamlined this amalgam of the most lucrative formulas.

I was just old enough to play an arcade game in the very late 70's and went thru the 80's arcade games at their height. From there, I went console from the NES to the PS3 and then built my PC to go play all the classic PC games I missed. I had a nightshift job that allowed me to play at work and then I would go home and play as well. There isn't much I haven't played save for the RTS genre for some reason. I often wonder what my ranking would be for the most time playing games would be.

Are those your own maps, OP? Have you beaten the games in order?
624e92 No.15046642

Yes and no. These are my maps but I started on 6 and it's the first one I'm trying. Before this I fucked around in Bard's Tale, Eye of the Beholder, and Grimoire but this is the first one I'm seriously making an effort to beat. I'm in the process of redrawing my maps to all fit on two pages now that I've explored most of the castle.

It sounds counterintuitive, but automaps in games can take the player out of the experience. Drawing your own map, even if it has to be outside the game, can make it seem more like an adventure in an unexplored place. It also avoids player questions about where the map is coming from, if there's no in-world explanation for an automap.

I'm of like mind with many people here; 2007 was the beginning of the end. Most new games are complete shit, with maybe single digit exceptions each year. It's all SJW horseshit, BK Kids' Club divershitty nonsense, absurdly overbearing DRM, and moneygrubbing jewery everywhere.
