The thing is A LOT of their videos are also from the early days of the internet, when admin plugins weren't as verbose and shit like discord and smartphones weren't everywhere. Another thing is they were doing it more to make people upset and less to be E-famous like a lot of griefers do now, and most of those people think the pinnacle is micspam and spamming nigger. Look at Daniel's videos, thought gets put into them, or in the case of Jimbobjoejackson he does it in a way that technically isn't against the rules of the server he's on and thus he uses loopholes to his advantage to cause other people grief.
Couple that with gamemodes like TTT now are basically impossible to grief, due to plugins that alert all on server admins to any RDM you pull, accidental or not.
Speaking of admins, now it seems common to find shit where you can pay 10 to be an admin and it ends up with shit like SUPER VIP ranks and shit where people with no real control end up with admin privs and go nuts with em when someone upsets them.
Personally if I ever started griefing again I'd probably do it in interesting ways through RP to keep it interesting, going back to some of the /v/ griefing group shit I'd want to revive and refine some of the ideas
