I have a fetish of PC/Console/Whatever ports running on hardware woefully underpowered for them.

Specifically Console/PC to Handheld

Any other Ports out there? what ports do you like?

The only qualifier is they must be "Playable" Borderlands 2 for Vita counts (after all it's updates) since it's still "Playable" somewhat.

Am I the only one who really really likes shit like this? It just seems cool to me.

Phantasy Star Online 2 on the Switch. The system is such garbage that PSO2 had to be "cloud based" for it. Let that sink in for a moment: the Switch is incapable of running a game that even the Vita can run. Even in Japan, a country with amazing internet infrastructure, players of the Switch version are reporting tons of connection issues and unplayably bad lag. Westerners who got PSO2 on their Switch report that they usually can't even create their character before they disconnect. Seeing as how the Switch port of Resident Evil 7 is also going to be cloud based, you can expect a lot more laughably bad ports for the Switch in the future.

>I bet the Switch is capable of running it, but they're just too lazy to make a proper port.

That seems to be the case with a TON of switch games. Koei Tecmo for example, FE and Zelda warriors can run at 60fps/720p, but their other games struggle to do 30, and often just run at like 20fps.

No, PSO2 is TI calculator optimized seeing as how the Vita can run it while maintaining a good 20-30 fps unless you're in a 12 man clusterfuck with spell effects and tons of enemies. The PS4, an honest to god toaster, runs it at a rock solid 60 fps at settings that are equal to PC's maximum settings even in the most massive of clusterfucks. If they could pull off ports that run that well on handheld and console hardware, I don't think it's pure laziness on Sega's part.

Doom 1 on GBA was just the Jaguar port scaled down, along with the green blood and corpses removed for a Teen rating (for kids buying this in 2001). It's slapdash, but so were a lot of year one SNES conversions to GBA.

I recently played though Duke Nukem Advance.

and while it's based on Duke 3D it's got some interesting differences.

there are Grey aliens who can resurrect dead enemies

Duke is using a Desert eagle instead of the Pistol from before, you can also use his more famous Gold Deagle if you use the weapon unlock cheat it has faster firing speed and higher damage.

You can also get a Quadruple barrel shotgun and an MP5.

although none of those guns matter because Dukes boot does as much damage as the shotgun, with faster attack speed

IIRC, the SNES engine was made in-house of Williams/Midway/etc. so it was not entirely owned and touched by id itself like the Jaguar port the rest of the console versions were based on. In many ways, the GBA port looks and runs better than the SNES without needing a Super FX2 chip, but it's still held back by hardware, memory, and wishing to sell more copies with a Teen rating. The GBA can play the SFXs perfectly, but is limited in old Game Boy PSG channels for music (which, to be fair, the Jaguar port didn't even play music during gameplay). They could have added more levels back in and/or fixed up the trimmed Jaguar stage designs, but they were being quick to jump on getting the game out and wanted to use the smallest ROM chip size they could.

Now Doom II on GBA was developed by another studio and didn't lose much content, but used its own engine so it feels a bit off. The Wolfenstein levels' censoring is far better than what the 360/PSN/BFG Edition cuts did.

It really pisses me off how little amount of time the GBA had on the market. 2001 - 2004, then the DS literally made it redundant overnight. Imagine if they'd been able to get it out a couple years earlier or delay the DS by a year. How much more time developers would have been able to utilize what was tantamount to a miniaturized SNES with a marginally beefier CPU.

Also Raylight (and Prograph, see vid related) should have become the fastest growing studios for the system and raked in metric fucktons of sales, but the publishers, not wanting their in-house studios to be humiliated, decided to endlessly filibuster them until the console was no longer relevant and they died down into obscurity as a result. First off we have this piece of trash, i legitimately didn't knew what i was getting, i only bought it because i found several copies brand new in some vidya store, it was insanely cheap (around 3 dollars) and even if it was total trash i could still sell it to a pawnshop and get back my money (the local CEX can't give you less than 5 for any videogame, it's store policy).

Anyway, this thing had absolutely no effort put into it, the cutscenes look like they were taken off youtube at 480p quality, the gameplay was kept "intact", but because the framerate tanks ever so often (it runs at a unstable 30 fps, dropping as low as 8fps) you're gonna get bullshitted when parrying attacks, most of them don't register at all so you're better off just rolling away of jumping on their heads if you want to avoid attacks.

The graphics are terrible, you could run the PC version at 640x480 with all settings low/off and it wouldn't look nearly as bad as the 360 port does, they tried to cover this up by applying 4x antialiasing, but all that does is make the game blurry (text is outright unreadable on some parts, they also fucked up by using antialiasing at all because the game could have ran at a stable 30fps if they didn't bother with it, but they did and now every time you use the fast run skill the game runs at 15fps), it's not just the bad graphics though, the textures take a really long time to load, there's a mission early in the game where you have to rescue an uruk before he gets executed, he's in a tower guarded by 4 snipers, 5 normal mooks and a warchief, you can sneak behind a sniper, kill it, kill the other 3 with your bow, drop down to kill the 5 mooks, kill the warchief and the textures still wouldn't load, it's not until you engage the uruk and end the mission that the game renders properly.

But the biggest travesty is that the game takes 15 seconds to load the fucking pause menu even if you install both discs to the hard drive (and not even the menu got spared from the downgrade, the picture of your main character, looks cross-eyed) and trust me, you're gonna pause a lot if you wanna navigate this sorry excuse of a map because the developers fell for the open world meme.

I still haven't finished this shitpile because the game isn't good enough to justify playing a shit port, but i seriously wouldn't recommend it even to my worst enemy, if you don't have a current gen console but still wanna play this thing i suggest trying your luck with the PC port or getting better taste in vidya, you don't need to play this shit bamham clone at all.

Next we have a good port, most of these are gonna be 360 ports because that and a PS2 are the only consoles i have.

I don't know how the fuck they did it, but MGSV on the 360 isn't bad at all, how the fuck did they manage to get the fox engine to run on shit hardware from 2005 i'll never know, but they did and it's a sight to behold.

Nothing but the graphics, draw distance and framerate (from locked 60 to unstable 30) were compromised, all the cutscenes look exactly as the next gen version and the game plays like it should when there isn't lag (and it doesn't lag often), they didn't cut a single campaign/online feature and the downloadable content is the same as on PS4/PC, i was expecting a peace walker re-skin but they gave me the full MGSV experience, it was so good i actually bothered to get all the achievements, i'm not gonna comment on the game itself because there are plenty of reviews out there and all of them apply to this port, if you're curious, Ground Zeroes was also a great port and it might be just me, but it looks and plays better than TPP, definitely worth the 6 bucks i paid for each game.

Shit game, amazing port; still i wish they hadn't bothered with 7th gen, i bet the game shipped unfinished because they wasted a lot of time on this.

These late gen ports actually have me really, really interested, I knew the shadow of mordor port was barely playable though.

I remember playing Ground zeros on PS3 and was blow away by how much my pstripple was chuggin'.

I feel the same way about the doom switch port, Despite having the game on PC and playing through it, I bought Doom SW from a friend for 15 bucks, and was pleasantly surprised.

Kinda looking forward to the Wolfenstein II port for the same reasons (it's a shame panic button is porting such a shitty game tho')

Apparently they're announcing another "Impossible" port, and am curious as to what it is.

Panic button's work on Rocket league also had me impressed, despite it being rough initially, they got it on there, what was more impressive was the inhouse devs at psyonix took the finished port, increased the framerate, resolution, and effects.

I love this shit, I love seeing shit optimized as far as it can go.

>>15027030

I don't have a 3ds and my pc is literally only for browsing this shithole and watching magical girl anime, citra would make my thinkpad piece of shit explode.

Another good port, Wolfenstein TNO was a really decent game, tasteful jokes targetting both nazis and jews, great voice acting (it's not just OY VEY and MEIN LEBEN regurgitated by ameriburgers, they actually got jewish and german voice actors), you bust out of a fucking concentration camp in a mecha and the shooting/stealth is very solid (if played on console make sure you play on hard or higher because normal and easy have CoD snap-to-target aiming and you can't turn it off, at least they kept the leaning around corners mechanic), unlike The New Colossus which completely pozzed the franchise with the antifa ads, blacks and soyboys everywhere and "fuck drumpf :DDDD" tier humour, a shame because that game is still fun to play.

Again the only difference is the graphics so if you want comments about the game itself look up any review, surprisingly this game has an unlocked framerate like biocock intimate (30 fps with spikes to 60 in some areas, and never goes below 30) and even the graphics don't look that bad, whoever ported this thing to 7th gen was a genius, my only complaint is the game shipping on 4 fucking discs, and they went at it in an incredibly retarded way too, you have to install disc 1 and that's it, you'll have to swap discs every 2 hours and you can't install the other 3 discs, so your 360 will be loud as fuck because the disc will always be spinning, that's on top of the console already struggling to run the game (i always install my games if given the choice) so don't play this one if you have anything other than a slim S or E model, it's a guaranteed RROD.

Yet another good port, minimal graphical downgrades (and i do mean minimal, xbone/ps4 don't look that much better, they didn't implement hairworks either) and the removal of the tacked on, shitty multiplayer (which means this is an easy 1000 gamerscore) are the only differences between the 360 port and next gen (all the story DLC was kept), in fact the xbone/ps4 version has input delay, 360 lets you aim and move much faster, i guess they really wanted to push that cinematic experience or something.

I really, really liked this reboot, it's like uncharted but with actual gameplay and a protagonist that has a pear shaped butt, i also find funny how almost all the cutscenes show lara being afraid of everything, yet they always force you to play like rambo, the way they introduce fire arrows in the first game is something you guys have to see; lara tries to sneak her way around an enemy base but she falls down some stairs and makes a lot of noise, so all the soldiers in the immediate area are aware of your position, lara then picks up some matches and mcgyvers some fire arrows, now you're forced to shoot some poor sap who is just standing there and watch him burn to death, then they highlight some explosive barrels so you can shoot them from behind cover without alerting enemies of your position (arrows don't make noise, bullets do, and normal arrows can't ignite barrels, only fire and explosive arrows can, explosive arrows don't make noise either), the second game also has its moments; you get stuck in russia wiithout equipment so you have to scavenge shit to heal yourself and get a weapon, lara then drags her whimpering, sorry self to some bushes and grabs a few sticks and herbs, then she hears some wolves in the distance, next thing you do is craft a bow, murder 10 patroling soldiers that just happened to run into you, murder the wolves you just heard and then beat the shit out of a bear that had the nerve to chase you, she somehow forgets she got fatally wounded just a couple minutes ago, it's not until lara stops stabbing the bear and falls off a mountain that she remembers she's dying, so you're forced to grab some herbs and heal yourself, not that it matters since they also tell you there's health regeneration and even in the hardest difficulty it only takes 10 seconds to fully regenerate.

Time for a bad port, Watch Dogs wasn't a good game to begin with, but this port makes the game seem worse than it actually is.

First off the game runs at 20-25fps and constantly drops as low as 10fps, completely killing the parkour and stealth, the chases also suffer from this because for some unholy reason the developers didn't disable motion blur for this port so it all looks extremely choppy, the graphics aren't good enough to justify such a shit framerate, one massive flaw

i noticed is that if you're driving a fast car at top speed you can actually unload textures or go through buildings and plummet to the abyss, you can't die from this or respawn in a nearby street (like GTA) so get ready to reload your last save if this happens to you.

Just like Shadows Of Mordor i didn't even bother to finish the game and i almost never do that (i soldiered through biocock intimate, that should tell you something), the port is just that bad.

I honestly don't know why i even bought this game, i don't like racing games that much.

Forza Horizon 2 on the 360 is a completely different game to the xbone version; different races, different events, modified (smaller) open world, vastly inferior graphics (it looks like a forza motorsport 2 re-skin and supposedly runs at a sub 720p resolution) and it didn't get any of the DLC of the xbone version, it actually reminds me a lot of the shitty NFS undercover port for ps2 that was actually a re-skin of carbon with hot pursuit mechanics hastily implemented, still it's actually playable unlike Shadows Of Mordor, at least if you don't mind shitty games.

If you want a good racing game for your 360 i suggest the first Forza Horizon game, it plays and feels a lot like NFS Most Wanted (the 2005 one, not the shitty 2012 "remake"), it's open world, you do races, some driftan, race against planes, do stupid shit to gain notoriety and then you race one cocky motherfucker in order to take his place, the online is still alive and kicking (this, black cocks 2 and gaylo reach are the most populated games), it also looks really fucking good even by today's standards, i'd even say it is the best looking game the 360 has.

I forgot about this thread, but here's another bad port.

The Evil Within was just a bad game; terrible story, terrible gameplay, terrible visuals, it feels like a budget resident evil but without the fun combat, the protagonist can't run more than 10 seconds (with upgrades, otherwise he tires in 3 fucking seconds) without heaving and if he runs out of stamina he stops to catch his breath leaving you wide open for attacks, his "melee" is a half assed punch that does jackshit, it doesn't even stun, it just annoys the monsters, he aims his gun like he's a 70 year old man with broken wrists, they don't give you enough ammo to deal with everything they throw at you, the ammo cap for every gun is stupidly low (the pistol holds 40 bullets total, it takes 2 headshots/6-8 bodyshots to kill a mook), the hitboxes are straight bugged, you can land a headshot with the sniper rifle on a completely static enemy and most of the time it'll register as a bodyshot or even more infuriatingly completely miss the target, the story makes absolutely no sense, it feels like mikami thought up this grandiose plot in his head but forgot to put the backstory in the game and as a result you won't make sense of it until the very end and even then you need to buy the 3 DLC chapters to completely understand it, the best part? Even after that the story is just dogshit, and last time i checked the DLC chapters were 10 each and one of them has absolutely no combat, it's just a walking simulator starring the female cop with a fat ass.

As for the performance, it's terrible as well, expect 25fps with drops to 10 whenever there's more than two enemies onscreen, it even lags when you run because the game has motion blur, it also has these horrible black borders on the top and bottom of the screen that makes it look like an old horror movie, thankfully they removed this with an update but the performance takes a hit (it lags more often) and it only makes it more obvious that the next gen version is not truly 1080p, speaking of that not even the PS4 version is safe from performance issues, it still has framedrops.

This piece of shit is not even worth pirating.

Time for a ps2 game.

I'm not sure if i could call this one a terrible port because the core game is still there and they didn't change a single thing (unlike undercover), but the graphics are really, really bad, i played this on release date on a 30 inch sony crt with component cables and it still looked terrible, hot pursuit, a game from 2001, looked better than carbon, i don't even have the balls to test it on my lcd tv.

At least the framerate doesn't drop, it's a shame that you couldn't legitimately unlock the hachiroku in ps2, only the ps3/360 could, nowadays you can't because the servers closed in 2010 or so, it's a really fun game in PC with the fan patches though, in fact most car autists still play it for the ridiculous drifting and toge modes it had.
