i miss hirokazu fukushima.. with him on the team, mgs games were truly great… without him, they lost some strengths the storytelling had
i mean, Peace walker was ok,storywise, but in MGS4, it just drags on and on and on.. during the cutscenes, when it never seems to end, explaining the systems in these worlds, it becomes unbearable, they could explain all of these things during the game much more cleverly without those boring slideshows and weren't even necessary (yeah i know its kind of a metal gear tradition, but it never went on for THAT long) although the characters interacting were generally nice, i have to admit, would watch as a tv sitcom, 10/10(edited)
and MGSV did not have a single pleasant character, they were all hollow shells of their former selves (even with kojima)
which does not even make sense chronologically, since later in the story, they become their former selves again,

Why does everyone love 3? The gameplay is so boring with enemies moving 2x slower than any other game to patrol their areas (makes sense outside of a video game), the music is worse than 2 (which is saying a lot), the voice acting is mostly KYAAA-NYAAA~ levels of terrible and awkward, leaving the story and animation to be the best parts of the game. They removed VR, no GAME OVER IF SPOTTED for Hard, No Expert on first play so I have to play twice, you can cheese the stealth system by hiding in grass and then using the trigger buttons to poke your fucking head out of the grass ABOVE THE GRASS AND UNSEEN NO MATTER WHAT, damage makes no sense at all with snake taking 40k+ rounds to the face but 4-7 kill standard enemies. Is it the improvised weapon system (which I admit is awesome)? The inventory menu crawl? I hope it's not the graphics, it aged like dog shit in a box.

OP here, i just felt like rambling because of my enthusiasm on the series, what do you think of the games? MGS2 was a letdown in my oppinion, the whole creating another solid snake plot was stupid, and just too convoluted in general, and honestly despite the game design being all right, it was just felt like more of the same with little to no uniqueness regarding overall structure. Of course it still has the same charm and qualitys the first game had, but at least the pressure kojima had after 2 made him deliver MGS3. if MGSV was designed with a linear path like resident evil 4 or all the other mgs games, i'd be tons of fun. the series just has so much potential…

I kinda wanna talk about series structure.
The "Series" begins with MGS3, as in release order, not just chronologically. MGS1 is a fun action game with an interesting concept, MGS2 is an amazing standalone modernist drama, and MGS3 sets up the plot for all later releases. It introduced "The Will of The Boss," which all subsequent titles explore the interpretations of: MGS4 is Ocelot's interpretation, PW is Snake's, TPP is Zero's (kinda), even Portable Ops has hints of it, with Gene. It's also worth mentioning that the games which orbit The Will of The Boss are also those making up Big Boss's story (whereas 1 and 2 are more about snake–4 is a split between the two, considering Ocelot and the epilogue are literally the best parts of the game).
So with all that said, I think Snake Eater is kind of weak on its own. Eva's character is great, the epilogue is perfect, and the Ocelot/Snake shenanigans are gold. But from a meta-narrative perspective, it's just the foundation, and totally depends on all the games that came after. The main reason I like 4 the most is simply by virtue of being a perfect conclusion to an already great beginning.

What the fuck are you saying? 4 and onward fucked the shit out the the overall narrative by introducing this "will of the Boss". It turned her, from a tragic story about a soldier willing to give it all for her country, to some kind of saint figure that nearly every single important character in the series is obsessed about. Starting with 4, she became the closest a character can get to being a Mary-Sue, without going all the way. MGS3 was the perfect explanation for Big Boss's fall into becoming a villain. He sees how his mentor is just thrown under the bus, by her own country, and decides he's going to make a world where soldiers will always be appreciated. But then 4 and Peace Walker come in, and now it isn't that BB is upset over the fates of soldiers, but he's obsessed with fulfilling some long-running desire of the Boss's. But not only him. Turns out Zero formed the Patriots for that exact reason. Also Ocelot wanted to fulfill her will. And it turns out every single major plot of the series is, retroactively, caused by or related to this desire to fulfill a dead woman's dream of a potential world, that no one can seem to come to a consensus over. And it's all so fucking stupid.

I loved MGSV for being a Cold War era Hot conflict simulator in two areas of operation that in the 80's led to some very significant small arms and small unit tactics. And because the gunplay made my inner and outer gun nut giddy. Loved running through outposts with an empty shotgun, direct loading a round to the chamber and firing into each mook in my way. And the broken as fuck driving in that game led to hours and hours of me knocking down trees while going sideways in a six by six.
I hated MGS3 because I played the xbox 360 port and that made the Bond references and atmosphere feel tacky as fuck. Because of the shitty controls I couldn't really enjoy the game as a parody or send up. Also would have liked it more if it I hadn't learned all the little tips in that game to make the game progress so quickly. Like not using first person view in the prison cell to see the radio frequency being held up for you.

Everything in MGSV makes sense when you consider Venom is not big boss and nothing that is happening is even real. It's all brainwashing Venom to believe he is Big Boss. This is conformed in the opening minutes of ground Zeroes when Miller is talking to "Big Boss".
He says Paz is detained on Camp Omega. He has something to the effect of "We never should have bought that stupid back story."(in regards to Valdez and Paz being university students from Costa Rica.) The problem with this is Miller KNEW THE WHOLE OF PEACE WALKER THAT PAZ WAS A CIPHER AGENT. This was the big twist ending even. Ground Zeroes contradicts Peace Walker not even five seconds into its opening cutscene. This is why I believe Kajima when he said MGSV is not MGS5. It's MGSVenom. The Phantom Pain reflects the entire tone of the game. Every single contradiction, is woven into the narrative of the game.Even the spat with Konami is a ruse.
