Well, m'lord, the tank controls are only as important as the fixed camera perspective. If the fixed camera perspective is gone, then so too shall the tank controls be removed.

But won't you miss them? Kind of like an old sore that never used to heal?
In all seriousness, I think limiting the player's control over his character (and be it just by lackluster game controls) can, to some extend, increase the tension a game delivers - simply because you frantically try to move your avatar but the latter is so slow to respond.

Here's another question for the OP
>What are you afraid of?
I'll start. My biggest phobia has got to be government conspiracy. And by that I mean some type of huge secret agency with a lot of power and range, and the ability to do stuff we don't even have knowledge of. Deus Ex is pretty much the only game I know of that did this, but it wasn't meant to be a scary game so it didn't spook me that bad.

>What are you afraid of?
Mental illness is one of my biggest fears. Specifically, I am afraid of developing schizophrenia and becoming victim to the insanity it brings. Not only would have to deal with the delusions and hallucinations, you'd also be helpless for the rest of your life. You'd never be able to live without a caretaker and the appropriate medication. You'd be a danger to yourself and others, if you ever somehow failed to take your meds.

The shitty ass pitch black darkness everywhere will fuck it harder. Old RE might have had absurdities with the architecture, like a mansion sized police station, but at least the atmosphere was somewhat realistic.

It sets out to do one thing - a journey into a grotesque, oppressive hell. And it's that, so good for it.
To escape walking simulator status you get to avoid succubi who want to eat you rather than fuck you, and there are puzzles. But the stealth isn't satisfying, the enemy can get you in cheap as fuck ways, and there's a shit mechanic where you start going slow as molasses if you die too much. It would ironically have been better focusing on just puzzles and no enemies.

Silent Hill camera isn't quite fixed though, it's an hybrid system of a camera you can control, but which does cut to forced angles when you enter certain zones. It's the best system but it does require some thorough direction. Not everyone is team silent, sadly.

I remember that thread being mostly about the video infringing on the traditional "drive around the interstate at night, spooky shit happens" edition. Truly unacceptable.
Seriously though, there's nothing groundbreaking about that idea, this just looks like some procedurally generated minigame without a whole lot of potential as is. Dead End Road was more elaborate than this, and the height of the spooky driving genre would pretty much just be a full 3D version of that with more content. Boom, done.
Just post the creepypasta screencaps, really. The appeal of that stuff is the evocation, a simulation would just work for an hour and then fizzle out.

It's okay, but it's 99% walking simulator. As a matter of fact, I'm fairly certain there's only one puzzle in the entire game, and nothing besides of falling down from a great height that can actually hurt you.

Honestly there is nothing really wrong with tank controls especially if you played alot of RE3 when they fully tightened those controls up to mastery where you can run around and dodge and have a shit load of control over jill.
You can also easily create tension with the new engine aswell you just have to limit leon's ability to decimate zombies. It appears as if when he's moving and aiming he's very 1. Vulnerable 2. Innacurate 3. Can't move fast at all
If he's very slow it might have more tension than a tank control game tbh because when you get really good with tank controls especially in RE3 you don't even have to fight like 90 percent of the enemies in the game you can just run right by them.
Tank Controls=Tension and True Survival horror
That's a fucking meme and the people who shit on "Moving and shooting durr running and gunning" obviously didn't see the footage or haven't played silent hill in their lives(a game where you move and shoot with 100 percent accuracy autoaim)
You can have this new camera and movement system be a legitimate survival horror experience as long as it's not cheese. Alot of the time the "limitations" on character movement are beneficial to survival horror because the difficulty in moving around gets you fucked but after you "master" the controls this is no longer an issue and the main thing that scares you is the unknown+being stuck with dogshit supplies
The real beauty in resident evil 3 is mastering all the movement systems and becoming extremely competent in combat tbh so I'm hoping REmake2 is alot like Resident Evil 3 as in "Very easy to just play but really hard to master"

Knowing the inevitable, doing everything possible to stop it, only to confront that, in one way or another, you fucked up and you can't unfuck what you did.
Killer7 has a scene at the final boss fight where you encounter enemies that are literally invincible. Nothing you do can stop them. No matter how hard you try, bullets reflect off them and they kill each member of your team, save for one. That feeling of 'I'm doing what I'm supposed to, I'm trying to figure this out, what the fuck is going on!?' sets in a panic that leads straight to fear, that you are wasting your life resolving the unresolvable.

You know what I would like? Something like Dead Space 1. Suppose you are an employee for the galactic equivalent of a salvage company. You get the job of turning the Space Ship Whatsicalled back into a running state again after its previous skeleton crew ran off due to what officially is minor problems in the life-support system.
Then it turns out that the life-support system is not the only thing on board that isn't working, and the crew left for entirely other reasons anyway.
You could even have time-management elements where the environment or the ayyliens continuously damage the various ship components over time and you have to race back and forth between the different levels in order to keep all of them functioning. Or alternatively, some kind of faction wars where you find remnants of the ship's crew and can allocate them to defend different areas you already reclaimed - the downside being that you need to give them a hand every so often.

Finally getting to finish Changeling in Pathologic, I like a lot of the themes but fuck does it need to be more realized. You're playing a supernatural entity who's two opposite beings at the same time, yet still runs into a lot of situations where she's just a confused little girl who could use a mommy.
Just her dialogue options representing her multiple facets is great, but the remake making her playthrough even more otherworldly would be the best shit.

>Multiple music tracks
Make it far more simple: Car radio. Get all the stuff you'd only hear while driving through the most desolate part of rural Kansas. Country music, Evangelist preachers summoning images of hellfire, etc. And then twist it. The country music becomes warped and distorted when enemies or a monster comes nearby. The preacher suddenly addresses YOU for misleading his flock. And so forth. That, and other general AM/FM mindfuckery.
>give us multiple success states. kill the wendigos, escape from them, or some third option.
I would much rather see those as optional objectives to attain the main goal of reaching the nearest city. I.e., killing the Wendigo may mean you can salvage more ammo in the city because the locals otherwise would have saved it for the monster.
