Yes and no. Yes because it's giving me little to hope for in the future and has just become a reminder that this shit will stay the same and/or get worse unless I begin to handle things personally. No because, with all the depressing stuff to look forward to, I'm scouring through tons of past stuff that is actually rather good, and I'm finding all this stuff myself without having to rely on someone to tell me what I should and shouldn't partake in.

As I get older, I enjoy everything less and less. I can't remember the last time I was genuinely excited. I think it was when the Final Fantasy 7 Remake was announced, but I lost excitement the next day when they killed the hype by saying it'd release in episodes.

As for the last time I was genuinely excited for a game and it delivered, that was Metal Gear Rising.

I get SCM's premise, but there's a difference between surveillance cameras and what he does.

99% of all surveillance footage ever taken in stores will probably only be seen by 1-6 people who work as security guards, most surveillance footage outside is never looked at by anybody unless a crime happened in the area recently. Surveillance footage records indiscriminately in specific locations.

What he's doing is going up to random people, specifically targeting them, not leaving them alone and uploading the video later for all to see.

He was being extremely disingenuous when he acted like those two things are the same. t. former security guard who worked with CCTV. It's a mind-numbing job.

Who it targets and how they're targeted is a non-issue if you ask me; rather, it's an issue of consent. SCM only got the same amount of consent that other security cameras and CCTVs get. That's what he's trying to show. It doesn't even need to be indoors, most cameras are pointed outside and have a direct line of sight with many strangers - basically accomplishing the same thing SCM was. But I am excited for some things that were announced at E3. DMC5 while having some poor art direction will play well. Nioh 2 should hopefully make some things in Nioh better while ironing out the grinding, farming and loot-a-thon. Sekiro should be fun, a bit of a departure for From Soft, not a Souls game anymore. Cuphead DLC will add more to a great game, plus its DLC being worked on for about two years, something new there. Cyberpunk 2077, while not technically new, will probably be fun.

I feel games are just spinning their wheels, currently. Up until we've gotten a big boost in graphical quality every generation, as well as some big innovation every generation or two.

>basic "arcade at home" pong machines

>8-bit generation brings to the forefront the idea of games as big adventures, rather than simple arcade experiences.

>16-bit generation is the 8-bit generation, bigger, better, refined

>the first 3D consoles

>the mastering of 3D game design

>heavier online integration, graphical quality plateauing

And now we find ourselves here. There are games from a solid ten years ago that still look almost new. We're still playing basically the same games we were playing then with only minor innovations. VR is kind of lurking on the horizon, never quite managing to take off. Nothing has really happened in a very long time.

Nintendo's show was disappointing. That mech game looked fun though. Fallout 76 could be fun, but there is no way I am buying it anywhere near full price. The market is oversaturated. The video game industry has started to model the anime industry. There's a towering amount of content to sift through, but only a small portion of that is good. As the medium continues to shift into the mainstream, it will only get worse. Even genuine works of passion, like Cuphead, end up flopping because it becomes consumed by marketing and fandoms.

There's nothing to feel excited for when there's nothing good on the market. Games are no longer made for us. They're made for the lowest common denominator. Not even Mario Odyssey was fun when it came out.

Yo Noid 2: Enter the Void was the best platformer to come out in the last 5 years.

>Make VR actually good

The problem with VR is the movement issue when walking/running around the environment, there still isn't a good cheap way (for home use) to emulate walking without the VR hamsterball, those 360 degree movement treadmills (with the special shoes) controllers or just the lazy method of just making you teleport everywhere. The exception to this rule being vehicle simulators where you are naturally sitting.

I would hope that VR arcades could become commonplace and lower the costs for VR home equipment.

>push things like AI to new levels.

The sad fact is you could make AI smarter but people (normalfags) will drop the game once they can't beat them. Something akin to the AI Director from the Left 4 Dead series that tries to measure the players stress levels and provide a good challenge of enemy difficultly/item placement might be a better option. Valve even has a bio-metric version of L4D2 whose AI Director reacts to your pulse/skin conductivity(sweat) to get an accurate read out of your personal stress to make the current level a challenge, I would say that would be the future for controllers to be bio-metric measuring capable as standard.
