It's Nintendo's new format, has been for a few years. They have a whole bunch of small announcements but E3 focuses on one big title in particular. It was Smash this year, last year it was Odyssey, the year before it was BOTW. Next year it will probably be Metroid Prime.
I'd prefer if they just had one long rapid-fire presentation of all the shit they're working on for the next year or two, and then on the Treehouse stream they did the long form stuff.

The Gamecube Animal Crossing runs fine on Dolphin. I haven't been following 3DS emulation news, but maybe you can play New Leaf on Cemu. New Leaf is the best one yet in terms of content, but GC Animal Crossing is still comfy as fuck and has the best villager dialogue.

Its a similar aspect to something like Harvest Moon on a more casual and laid back scale. It gives the player light resposibility and a couple of tasks to do every day and constant events to keep you returning (holiday stuff, events, errands, and other things day to day). The comfy atmosphere it protrudes also helps too.

What do you want it to look like, exactly? The style suits the game.
And the answer is yes, it's comfy. Games like Harvest Moon and Rune Factory have actual expectations of you, whereas AC is laid back and you can take things at your own pace.

The appeal is the same flavor as dwarf fortress I think. Both focus on doing menial tasks without any real in game goal in sight other than progress. In AC you want a bigger house that looks good and a completed collection of everything, in DF you want a bigger fortress and to make cool shit.
Theres no point to either and they're on different ends of the stress slider, but its the same thing of enjoying doing relatively simple minor tasks as they slowly add up into something impressive. Especially in New leaf where you can add features to your town and customize it so much.
So primarily the fun comes from your own drive to make and collect stuff, which some people don't want, they want a goal given to them. If you like that, AC isn't for you. If you don't like a slow paced game you play a little of every day you aren't going to like it, sort of like a little model train set you tinker with for an hour a day.
Also if you give enough of a shit about the aesthetics of a game to consider it a turn off you fucked up.
