Personally I think he's dying inside because the corporate culture at zenimax/bethesda is getting out of control, and they're not creating more dev studios of his studio he's in charge of despite promising to never do this thing for over a decade since the initial bankruptcy. They're probably constantly riding his ass about everything since his team seems to be the only one in the corporation able to actually make an actual profit despite all the studios they've acquired. Oh and if he has any problem with scummy practices, he probably knows about Bethesda/Zenimax milestone abuse and fucked practices that let them destroy the dreams and hopes of other studios they work with to buy them out and force them to work for Zenimax.
Then there's pete hines forcing him to take his team off starfield to work on Fallout 76, as pete even admitted they forced all the beth teams to make fallout 76 and get it out quick as possible. So midway into development you're forced to work on this fucking shitty rust clone in the skin of fallout, and you can't even showcase your new starfield game at E3 because of it.
On top of all of that before, over half the people on your team can't code for shit, either cause you hired family and they won't get better, and you're not going to fire your family or friends, and zenimax keeps deciding to hire more and more people and gets more and more crazy about corp culture. You start unironically calling people degenerates, you're the only guy who doesn't wear the gay pride parade badges, and now your company keeps hiring more and more of these social justice types to the point that theyre all around you, talking about how they masturbated to your games growing up, and talking about intersectionality, micro agressions and micro racism. Then zenimax and pete start coming in more and more and telling you the things you HAVE to put in your game cause it's the big new thing, like minecraft mechanics, and voiced protagonists. And the games need to be even SIMPLER because it's still too hard and the Q&A testers somehow got lost in a cave with only two detours, both of which end in dead ends, and are now having minor panic attacks cause they don't know how the perks and skills systems work. So you're not even really in charge of your studio or your creative integrity anymore, they just use you like a meme to sell games to a crowd. You started as a programmer and a gamer, loved games and you're now nearing your 50s and you're being paid to be a face for all the scummy shit zenimax and bethesda the publisher keep doing and need to stand on stage like a paid monkey, the same stage where you used to be excited to show your cool new thing when you actually loved your job.
