What are some extremely flawed games that you still personally love /v/, and why?

Pic related is mine. SA1 and Heroes are buggy, riddled with their own problems, and SA1 hasn't aged all that well. But, goddammit, I'd be lying if I didn't say I enjoy both. Heroes does so many things right imo, and the team mechanic is a great idea. Plus the level design in Heroes is legit great. SA1 has my personal favorite 3d Sonic controls, and it's the closest to being a true 3d rendition of the classics. I like 4/6 of the game (sonic, tails, knuckles, and gamma), and the shitty parts (Big and Amy) are really short anyway.

When you look at the main mechanics like: stealth, driving, parkour, gunplay - they are bare-bones, but they all work with each other really well, basically a prime example of working better as a some of it's parts. It's really similar to Just Cause 2 in that regard and also shares similar issue - it makes your completionist mindset screw with you - and make you go after all the side content, only to get bored of it.

This. I really want to like Heroes, especially since I'm still a big fan of the two Adventure games and have my fingers crossed for a true third game. But every time I give Heroes a chance, I can only go through a few levels before getting extremely frustrated. The way the characters move is so twitchy and you can die so easily due to the slightest input mistake or the level just having a bullshit mechanic which doesn't work properly. I love the aesthetic, the music and some of the levels I can kind of enjoy but it's just a mess overall.

As a kid, I loved tic-tac-toe. I remember playing it nonstop with my friends back in the day. However, anyone older than 5 years old quickly learns that tic-tac-toe only has a few ways to win that can be easily memorized that forces every match against normal people to result in a tie. As an adult, I can look back at this flawed game and appreciate all the great memories it left me.

Soul memory makes the game smooth instead of minmax retardness

Best scenarios, full of water and sun and rain instead of excessive grimdarkness

PvP works with every build, you can win without using high-poise ultragreatsword or other broken mechanics from DS1/DS3

Challenging game and maps alltheway instead of boring minions and OP bosses as in DS1/DS3

Small summon sign is the best thing, make you help someone in the map without becoming boring

Summon works and is useful for other thing than earning XP in boss fights(Estus Recovery)

Due both things above, there are summon signs everywhere instead of only before certain bosses as in DS1/DS3

Covenant's summons/invasions works

Best waifus, no blind whores

metal slug 5.

It definitely is better designed than 4, and accusations that enemies are just "modified rebels" miss a lot of nuance, but it definitely misses the mark by quite a bit, there's tons of unused content, the game feels a little bare, the sliding mechanic wasn't very well thought out and the humor is almost completely absent, even more so than the first game. The game is still really fun, mostly fair, and varied enough to hold my attention.

>More than half of the game cut out due to publisher going bankrupt and forcing the dev team to tie up lose ends so they can release it for a few last shekels

>Terrible scoring system that encourages you to play very fast and efficiently, making the more subtle parts of the game mechanics, such as the hidden Intelligence/Attention/Disciple stats, completely irrelevant.

>Some parts of the game are extremely RNG-heavy due to bad/buggy/unfinished AI, basically requiring you to just hope the mortal does what they are supposed to do the first time and you dont have to wait through multiple AI cycles

>Numerous gamebreaking bugs that can randomly occur and force you to restart a mission, such as a mortal getting stuck on stairs, making them invincible, preventing you from completing the mission

>Not enough gold plasm (EXP) in the game to fully upgrade all your haunters due to all the cut levels, forcing you to pick and choose instead of being able to just upgrade everything

Despite all this bullshit, its still one of my favorite games of all time, I do at least 1 playthrough of it a year. I highly recommend it.

Seriously though, such a fucking tragedy of wasted potential.

I spent a lot of time digging up for info on unused content, concept art, pre-release interviews, ect, ect.

If it actually got the chance to be finished it could have seriously been a fucking masterpiece.

Saints Row 4. It inherits a ton of problems from SR3 (limits in customization, shitty city, no mission replay so fuck all to do after beating the story, upgrade system that means the devs couldn't balance the game like they could a fixed PC toughness, weapons that have to be upgraded to be worthwhile), it's very divorced from SR2 in gameplay and even with 100% completion it's not even 25 hours long. On the other hand the actual gameplay is fun and works fairly well. Unlike SR3 the humor works (though, again, it's completely different from SR2's style) and most of the missions are fun (Asha's loyalty mission overplays its joke but the rest are fun).

This game has extremely floaty combat. Imagine Souls-ish combat with lock on except you can move while all your attacks are executing, and attacks have strange animations that make it difficult to predict when your hit actually lands. It does have good hit detection however, and you can take advantage of a weapon's swing to get around shields. Magic is fun as fuck to use too and it has good character variety, with a cool system that tracks your "party" as opposed to an individual (you unlock characters throughout the story and some are optional), and you can change characters entirely if you're having trouble with a mission. Gold works like a "budget" so you can change your gear build whenever you want without permanently losing gold due to shitty sell rates. The levels are quite cool and varied, too. I really enjoy the approach to levels that encourages players to try a bunch of different characters as opposed to the traditional RPG where you are stuck with one character for the whole game and if you make a mistake in your build or buy something you find out you don't like, that means you'll need to grind to catch up. This game takes a more traditional approach which encourages you to find level secrets that add to your total gold budget, and it has secret levels too. I think its a shame that almost no other games are structured this way. Also has a PC port.

I'm playing it at 720p with a phone, it seems fine for the most part, full 60fps, very responsive, in fact, the most responsible game out of all of them, what dolphin ver. are you using?

A game that gives me intense graphical glitches is shadow the Hedgehog, literally on the opposite end of the optimization spectrum.

Do you have anywhere to read up on this stuff? I'm curious

Your game still clearly doesn't render at 720p from your screenshot. Even when you choose a certain resolution in the Dolphin settings. It get forced back to native res when you launch the game (Dolphin recognizes the game and forces this setting when it launches because they know that rendering it above native res introduces graphical glitches). You can force it back above native res on PC while the game is running but it becomes visually fucked up (black ground, etc.)

Try running it in 1080p and you probably won't notice a difference due to Dolphin forcing it back to native res.

Oh and I'm using the latest dev version. I searched around a bit and found that everybody was experiencing this and that for the moment, we're forced to play it at native res.

>gamey

Please unironically kys. Calling a video game "gamey" is about as retarded describing a novel as booky or a car too automobilely

Oh fuck, you are completely right. I was looking at this video and people in the comments were telling us the exact same thing, do you have AA disabled or enabled?

Why don't you try playing the PC version of it?

If you had read the conversation, you would know that the discussion over the resolution came from the fact that the PC version is based on a non-final build of the game, meaning it has issues that the console versions don't.

Like? Explain the issues you've had, not just superficial completionist shittery.

Like the physics being a bit off, certain graphical details being gone, that kind of shit. It also shares some bugs with the ps2 version, like certain character voice lines not properly playing. It's just a bad port. It would be like playing the PC version of DMC3, before any of the fan fixes were released.

Aside from the physics, it sounds like a nitpick, but to each his own.

It might be, but why would you play an inferior version of the game, when you can easily play the best version?

bfdbf6 No.15005645

>easily

I wouldn't say that. SH isn't exactly the most polished game out there, only reason to be concerned is if it has game breaking bugs ala 06.

Super Mario Sunshine:

>hover nozzle completely ruins the momentum in platforming

>locations aren't as off the wall crazy as 64

>the best areas in the game are the secret shrines, which give you the more crazy vista Mario 64 levels and remove FLUDD

>Shadow Mario chase levels, red coin hunting and Blue coins were all boring filler to pad out the Shrine count

But fuck it, it's still probably some of the most fun I have in playing a 3D Mario.

Maybe half of my library is that.

Even the bad 3D Sonic games are generally fun to break the hell out of, or to laugh at for how atrocious they are. I actually picked up a used PS3 partly to play '06.

It's a tabletop gaming term you cunt, it refers to the design philosophy of the system. An RPG with buying and selling is more simulationist than this game because it requires you to manage money matters, whereas the gold in Enclave is basically a max gear capacity score. It eschews "realism" for the sake of a fun game.
