Planetside 2's pretty fun honestly, the player base just tends to be a bunch of miserable, salty yet glorious bastards, with the top-tier capable of chain-headshotting people near-instantly. Best way to avoid those is to avoid smaller fights or you will get farmed with extreme precision. Bringing a vehicle just gives them targets to C4.
On the flipside, trying to join/follow your faction's equivalent of their best infantry can be a fascinating joy, if only to watch just how much they cut down superior numbers even as they storm the building you're in.
Outfits and coordinated play is when the game really shines. It's harder to find good Platoon leaders these days but when you do, it's a great experience.
I can only hope Daybreak/TheyBreak/GameBreak will start to improve seeing H1Z1 in trouble on PC and now that even EA uses No Lootboxes as a selling point, perhaps we'll see a overhaul of the Implant lootbox system in due time as well.
tl;dr: Great potential, fun tagging along with pros, friends and organization in platoons and outfits but a pretty miserable experience when you try to play it alone or with disparate randoms.

I play all 3 factions and usually play the lowest pop one for the underpopped fights and bonus XP. My TR one has the most XP. I started playing the other factions after lots of accusations of OP equipment the other factions have and the playerbases of other factions being gay and Reddit and learned there's nothing actually OP and TR has it pretty good. All 3 harassers are kitted out barring some upgrades on some of the guns but the Halberd is fully upgraded on all of them.

I felt when I played Vanu their guns did piss all for damage but didn't really have a lot of recoil hence where the rage for them comes from. I could fight TR at range and be confident that most wouldn't be able to hit me unless they were pretty gud, and I was right. NC guns felt pretty good all around and were fun to use. I didn't play either long enough to really get a feel for what TR had that was a pain to fight against but I suspect its Prowlers.
The Magrider was fucking horseshit though, that thing can go ANYWHERE, god fobid it has the boost because it will pop over ridges you didnt suspect.
NC is the most right to fight against, I feel like both just try to get stuck in with each other and try to hope Vanu goes for the other faction or straight up ignores them. I would bet a lot of guys would argue with me about the guns but I have really only ever played TR and could notice a difference. But we have all talked about it to death at this point, Vanu a shit, NC is alright dont go to the crown tomorrow.

Wrel killed a lot of the balance in the game, it was his idea to introduce the rocklets which made armour far less relevant as any LA idiot can just sit and take out a magrider or vanguard or prowler on it's own as along with the rocklets they gave the LA a shitload of ammo with it too.
It used to be you had to fly over the top of a tank to take it out if you're a LA so you knew what to look out for. But now…

I disagree. Light assaults have C4 obviously, but you have to get in real close to a max or a vehicle to blow it up. Rocklets give a little bit more range to their explosive capabilities but not much. It serves as a finisher to vehicles that are already low, and give them increased effectiveness against maxes. The rocklets dont do that much damage against tank vehicles, to where it either takes several clips of it (rocklets only have 7 clips total) and the tank either need to be abandoned or driven by a literal retarded person to get solo'd without the use of c4. I will agree with Wrel being a cunt who has a boner for giving trannu broken shit though. The VS version of the dragoon has the exact stats as the other two faction versions of it, with the no bullet drop included for free.
