I just thought of something. What would happen if a fighter willingly sacrificed himself in the end with his wish? I don't know about that. Why not allow him to return to his family and have a happy, peaceful life? Then one day he notices something is off about his environment and he comes to the realization that the life he's leading isn't real. He starts to breakdown because of it. Then he wakes up. He's still in a warzone. His wife and child were a dream. There's nothing in front of him besides endless wars with "the enemy" and his own battle fatigue. That would be more in-line with his character and more in-depth than simply Dear Johning him. I read a story once where a man had a dream about having a loving wife and family that apparently felt like a decade had passed within it. Not a coma, just a regular dream. Which played out a lot like I described in my earlier spoiler. After that the man apparently needed counseling for years after it. Something that's not likely to happen in a warzone. As it stands, you've given the >I don't like NTR. >t. OP crowd enough ammo to last until October. Good thing Brendan won it then!

My idea was that John, being a video game character, would mean that so too was his family. However if John is a player character or NPC in a historical war shooter, what would that make of his wife and child, who generally aren't present in such a genre? It's rare to find such games where civilian NPCs have any screentime, so when John Doe finally comes home, he finds himself stuck in the corner of a map used only to show off a basic tutorial or in-engine cutscene taking place before the game's real first level. John's wife and child turn out to be nothing more than barely scripted NPCs whose existence amounts to nothing but establishing the fact that they're his famiy repetitively. John can touch and hold his family, but they're just a combination of voice lines, models, and animations, and even if there was someone in town who was a person, he was too mentally scarred by both war and Scuttlebug himself to be happy.
Alternatively, John got to see his family, but as as a ghost about to enter the afterlife during his own funeral. The only reminder of their actual existence to John is watching them tear up and mourn him. Even if America is saved thanks to men like John, only he was granted one last visit, and to his saddened kin, unable to be happy without him, before completely passing away instead of the smiles he left behind and hoped to find again.
Also how would FBB even get unjusted? Cuckolding and alimony don't exist in Brendan's new universe, would he just be deleted, or turned into a vanilla hentai protagonist, or the world's greatest wingman?

That's actually pretty sensible. Brendan pulled a Jesus and undid all the bad that existed before and during his lifetime as a mortal, but it's up to everyone else now to keep the world as unjust as he made it, and hopefully everyone's better equipped to unjust themselves too with him around to answer prayers. Aren't NTR men like FBB just ugly harem protags with even more plot armor? Is Brendan still paying for that alimony IRL?
