Let’s have a death stranding thread. What do you fuckers think the game will be like, or even about?
My personal theory:
>plot is going to be based off the end of the movie adaptation of watchmen (only not a hoax)
>the worlds first Superman goes bad and rips a hole in space-time causing all sorts of shenanigans
>gameplay will be basic uncharted garbage and will be god of war style “open world”
>you have to hunt inter dimensional spooks and not get drowned by the oil
>several nods to metal gear and/or silent hill to keep the reddit crowd happy
>there will be some “innovative” mechanic that involves the strands, probably marking where other players died and instead of being benign like blood in dark souls they’d create an o sticks of some sort
>potential “social” component being telling people where the hard shit is on social media so they don’t die there and create obstacles
>the ending rips off 2001 and you ARE the baby this whole time

What we can guess from whats shown so far:
>Part of the game takes place on a volcanic caldera near iceland
>Bridges might be an organisation that researches paralell universes and the latest explosion is the main world accidentally breaching through via threads of quantum entanglement tunnelling to a nightmare world where logic doesnt run normally. The 'stranding' is our characters, not aliens on our world.
>The bangs are all about the stages of life. The big bang, the first single celled life, the pre cambrian explosion, the atomic bomb and so on
>It rains time and invisible predators track humans via breathing
>umbilical cords or threads connect all supernatural/sci-fi elements to normal people. Maybe that is sustaining their form and the invisible predators are unhooked and this kind of out of synch with reality?
>Action stealth is expected and from the last trailer probably evident
>The ocean respawn/loading screen is probably actually the tether between worlds the bridges experiments opened and dying just shifts sam to a universe where the death didnt happen, his death stranding him in another miniscule difference of a alternate reality to continue.
>Rope as well as sticks probably means a dark souls style 'time is convoluted' mechanic where you can leave dog tags as cross dimensional messages for other players

Basically gameplay wise i expect MGSV meets Dark Souls' none combat ideas and theme wise i think its a case of an experiment gone wrong and opening doors to universes where whats fiction, dreams or religion in our world are real and merely by establishing a bridge their universes laws apply to ours and vice versa and its causing logic errors in reality. No doubt the baby is some maguffin for solving the issue.

This movie is kinda obviously going to be about technology going too far. So they create a blackhole or something, then some titans with spooky ghosts comes along and the dead cannot die or something so the spooky ghosts steals live bodies so they can get a hybrid thing going on, and here is where Mats character is, a lame agent that travels back and forth in time and fucks around with other people.
The gameplay I would guess is MGS in sneaking and everything but the gimmick is not breathing when the spooky ghost come along. And you will die or something when the spooky ghosts catch you, there will obviously be shooting.

Depends on what you consider avant-garde. All that phrase even means is "experimental or unorthodox." Doom was avant-garde at some point, just because most people didn't expect a game that was so violent to be so popular. The standard for violence at the time was much lower, so Doom was pretty unorthodox, not to mention the camera and speed of the game. On the flip side "games" like Gone Home can hardly be truly called avant-garde when narrative walking simulators have existed for ages.

Depends of what you use the term for, it usually means "new & radical" within the context of its time but in general when I hear that word it tends to be a shorthand for pretentious and being pretentious at the expense of your players and your game makes you a hack.
Sadly most people cling on media that's "deep" because it makes them feel smarter regardless of actual quality.
Anyway, the only "good" example I can think of right now is when in Nier's Ending D you have to delete your save completely, that's a decent example of an "avant garde" mechanic that actually works within the context of the game. Too bad Nier is a shit game with decent story and music.

The movie story will be really convoluted that most mgs fans will defend it no matter how stupid some scenarios are.

anyway, here’s a legitimate theory on what I think this trash fire in the making will be.
People say Del Toros latest movie about a fish jacking off in a bathtub is really the hellboy origin story he never got licensed, with Del Toro and Kojina both working on Silent Hills I’m willing to bet Kojima got this idea and reframed the game.
Sony said they’d never seen a game developed so fast - that’s because it was already developed for the most part, they just needed to port it to the new engine and re-record dialog.
His idea for silent hills was going to be weird and conspiratorial, we know this from the demo. The demo is self-aware and mentions that it’s taking place 20 years in the past, knowing Kojima likes anachronistic tech shit 20 years in Kojima time could look very futuristic to us.
It has something to do with aliens, parallel universes, etc. these themes are all present in DS. I think the only changes he really had to make were replacing the “other world” with the underwater shit and getting rid of any direct references to silent hill itself.
judging by the demo, the story was probably going to focus around Norman’s dad killing his family as a result of paranormal influence (or just schizophrenia) and Norman going to discover that it was all spooky silent hill aliens behind it. I think they took the same concept and changed it from “spooky silent hill aliens” to “five spooky floating niggers”
I fully expect the game to play like horizon zero dawn with some gimmicky dark souls-esque multiplayer component and end with Norman’s character waking up, realizing everything was a dream, then something alluring to the possibility that it actually wasn’t.
