I just now bought the MGS HD collection and playing MGS3. I had no idea you could aim and strafe at the same time, been loving it so far. The ai is so much better compared to MGS2, removing their knockdown recovery auto attack was a great decision. Anything I should be doing to fuck with the ai better?

You're only half right. Mechanics wise MGS2 was impressive at the time and it was definitely much more advanced than MGS, and the same can be said for MGS3 which refined what MGS2 got wrong. If we speak about the setting, and story progression and boss fights, then it's a different matter and MGS is clearly the undisputed winner, playing it as a kid it felt like being slowly jerked off right from the start only to explode in a huge climax that painted the walls white when I reached the end, meanwhile in MGS2 everything after the tanker felt like doing chores in this small samey world. I do I agree that MG2 is great and set the standard for the series, then again MGS is basically MG2 2.0 with 3d graphics, cutscenes and voice acting. So in conclusion if we take in consideration the mechanics only MGS3 > MGS2 > MGS > MG2 and this is the only objective ranking since there were obvious leaps in the technology in each sequel.

Personal opinion wise MGS > MGS3 > MG2 > MGS2.

Also MGS4 was shit in every fucking regard and PW was so so, I can't speak for MPO, GZ and V since I haven't played them.

Gameplay wise, MGS4 was actually good. But then you run into a million cutscenes in such little time. GZ is pretty good but very short i still can't believe retards paid for that fucking demo. V has pretty smooth gameplay, but it's very dumbed down compared to the earlier games.

Did anyone else play the Survive trial? I thought it was generally good, even though the gameplay loop got really repetitive. At the end of the first zone, I simultaneously thought that the campaign was too short and that I couldn't stand much more of it. It was a very strange feeling. Then the second zone started and I decided I needed a break. Those faggot plants make stealthing through the jungle a goddamn chore.

As an aside, the construction, obstacles, and defending against zombie waves are all parts of Fortnite, right? Did I get tricked into playing Metal Gear with a Fortnite minigame built into it?

I didn't quite enjoy the gameplay of MGS4. I disliked the "modernized" controls and the simplified camo system. As you mentioned the game is segmented as fuck, and I sure wasn't happy to play for 10 minutes and then getting a 20 minutes long cutscene especially when the only chapters with something really going on were the first and the second.

The boss fights were mostly piss easy and unenjoyable. Story wise it was fucking depressing and the wiritng was pretty bad, I hated every bit of it.

Also there's a crapload of guns and gun porn but only a few are really worth using because they accept more customization options, the suppressor being the most obvious.

The only good things that came out of it were the big robot fight, the faps looking at the beauties in the white world using the camera and MGO2 which sadly I didn't get to play a lot.

MGS had a complete gameplay system of its own and more importantly is the best of the series aesthetically and story wise, followed by MGS2 and MGS3. MGS3 was pretty awful with the story and themes, certainly inferior to the others. Also I should qualify this and say that I am anti-tranq biased. Fuck tranqs

a big reason i keep jumping back into it is mods

Listen to me anon, the Legacy collection isn't worth it, it's just an overpriced HD collection + MGS4 combo and a download code for MGS and a small artbook. It might've been a good purchase back when it came out if you got it for like 40 bucks, but now scalpers try to sell it for over 100, so do yourself a favour and just get the HD collection and just play MGS on an emulator.
