Elona, thanks to recent-ish updates, gives you access to a couple new plant abilities. They aren't spells so they're cast from your stamina pool, but one of them lets you make poisonous plants spontaneously grow around you in an area of effect and deal damage to everyone. Another one lets you fire razor sharp leaves at people in rapid succession as if they were bullets iirc. There's an entire god of the harvest in the game (Kumiromi) too and he gives you bonuses to farming and gardening, too; if you improve your affinity with him you can get some neat nature-y gear with some abilities too.

Plant abilities aren't incredibly popular in Elona, but I can tame bears and wolves and use various nature-y spells and feel like a druid well enough, so I'm pretty happy with that. I'm actually aiming to be more of a Red Mage-ish sort of dude instead of just a Druid though.

Damn, really? Now that you point out the rock/ground thing that makes a lot of sense. Ghost and Dark could've easily been one type too I suppose, and hell, Fairy types could've just been Psychic or Normal types honestly. I think Ghost types are still cool though even if I don't love Pokemon as much as I used to anymore.

Really though now that I made my own post and brought up Elona as my first idea, I really don't remember anything else that had an absolute ton of plant spells in it. Seriously Elona was one of my first ideas and even that doesn't have a lot. Nature magic has always been really cool to me as I like a lot of the lore and flavor about connecting to the world and shit it has, and plus animal summons + plants + natural elements has always been dope as hell to me. Seriously though I can't think of much though, so you have a good question, OP.

I see plant magic as less of an element and more of a genre of spellcasting. Botanamancy, or maybe a type of druid magic, is a genre of magic deticated to growing, manipulating, and mutating plant life. Venom/poison would probably be the closest original type of damage plant magic would have. Otherwise buffs and heals come from injesting plants and herbs like drugs similar to alchemy. Damage is practically physical or concussive depending of if your plants smack or explode. Harmful effects are allergens and toxins which are poisons. And plant is usually manipulated by water and earth manas combined anyway.

You have to get very creative with your plant spells to make them stand out. Like having a parasite seed that can stick it's roots into the spinal chords of your enemies so you can control them like living zombies until the plant dies.

I often hear that, but "poison" isn't innate to the nature of life. Most of the world's most deadly poisons are inorganic solids or gasses. It's something lots of creatures use, plant and otherwise, but it has nothing to do with the essential qualities of what makes them something you would describe as "Plant-type". I'd say Plant types might have disproportionate access to a variety of poisons, but that doesn't make them Plant attacks any more than a Wizard casting Fireball makes the Wizard a fire elemental.

Hard mode: Distinguish poison from venom

Dante Must Die mode: Distinguish plants from fungi. They're as different as we are to trees.

What do you mean? Poison secretion is a direct defensive adaptation, essential for survival in most cases. That's 100% innate to the "nature of life."

But it's not part of what makes a plant what it is. "Poison secretion" is something animals do too, and poisons can be found all over the place in completely non-biological states. "Poison" really just means "substance that makes you stop working right", which is so vague as to be meaningless, particularly since that distinction is also subjective. Celery, for example, is highly lethal to housecats.

Druids in WoW are pretty cool, can make roots and stuff appear whole casting moonfire on everyone.

Saga Frontier 2 has a wood element, pretty useful, too. You start the game knowing two basic wood attack spells that are reliable all game.
