There are very few series with as much outright animosity towards its fanbase as Pokemon. It feels like each new game goes out of its way to taunt the players, and this game feels like a shameless, low-effort cash grab yet everyone I know who likes Pokemon is unbelievably excited for it.
Pokemon is too big to fall. They don't need to try any more, and the moment people finally stop buying it, they'll just lump it in with the other dead Nintendo franchises and relegate them to being Smash Bros characters and Mii outfits.
Pretty soon we're not even gonna get any more fuckable Pokemon designs. That's what's truly terrifying, for me at least. Thankfully, the fangames have been better than the main games ever since gen 5.

If they could do what Xenoblade X did with having other players around your skill level randomly appear as NPCs you could battle for cash under gym rules then that'd be fine too.
I liked the single player adventures until they became mandatory predictable "save the world" plots from god Pokémon. I'll take god Pokémon as a side plot to the main objective you find out on your own. I'd also like to have some sort of organic storytelling where plots of questlines are episodic anthologies. And if you helped one NPC in the beginning for a minor reward they could come back later and be a big help for what would've been tedious busywork.
But I'm not Gamefreak. So I expect casual shits and Kingdom Hearts tier exposition plot in the main game regardless.

How XCX worked is that it sometimes cloned other avatars of players at bases you could recruit into your party. The instances persisted even when the game went into offline mode.
I'm sure there's a way to do the same thing with random trainers using an algorithm to track badges and Pokémon level. You could also manually tell the system to clone an instance of your ghost instead if you want to make a trainer at a certain skill level. You could also choose between your current ghost with your active party and your saved ghost. No penalty for your ghost if it is defeated. You can choose to make your ghost a challenge or not.

You're still going to have to put in some effort to get into those areas to get the rare Pokémon you want. However I imagine the game opens up like Red and Blue did at a certain point where you can choose to do sone areas in any order you want past a certain point. The first and eighth gyms will always be locked. But I always imagined doing the second-third gyms and fifth-sixth-seventh gym in any order then having the game adjust your route and events for that.

I'm going to play the devil's avocado here and say that this is just a neat little side game to get people distracted until 8 gen releases. Anyway, the only remotely good thing about this is that Masuda's working on it, which means he's not fucking up Gen 8. Ohmori might make the games even more linear, easy, and full of cut-scenes than even Masuda did, but I actually think Sun was better than any Masuda directed game but Black and White. Hopefully Ohmori isn't directing Gen 8 either but who am I kidding, why would something nice happen. Catching them, shit tier EXP training, and EV training, that's it. Most of the time you ended up running away, or using repellents because fuck watching a useless 5 seconds cutscene every 3 steps. They do not even represent a challenge at any level of play and most of the time they can be killed in a single attack.

Psychic types were absolutely broken Gen 1 as the only pokemon that were Ghost had a secondary poison typing and were thus weak to Psychic as well. Steel resistance, and Dark immunity were both introduced to stem this. Later, some might argue that Outrage spamming dragons were too broken a strat, and thus Fairy was born to counteract that as well. The extra types have no reason to exist other than balancing in a meta context and one could argue more freedom in Pokemon design at points.

Fairy and dragon have no similarities. It wouldn't make sense for dragons to be super effective against dark and it wouldn't make sense for Fairy to be weak to itself… or for it to be weak to ice.
Nor should fairy have all of dragon's resistances.
Balance wise it doesn't work nor does it logic wise.
The same applies with ghost and dark, dark being immune to normal would make no sense in most cases either and having two immunity's in the same type is retarded balance wise.

With the fancy EXP calculation so Gen 1 Pokemon on virtual console transferred to Sun/Moon could have a nature- you'd think a similar thing could be done to re-balance stats and abilities. Not to mention levels and stat boosts are what you need to win. And then considering bosses have to have the same sort of tools players have (again, you can't just make their ace Pokemon a higher level for more HP, since level affects damage calc) and the bosses can be curb-stomped as well.
The core RPG battle system does not work for single-player or multiplayer. They boil down to potion and buff spam on the former, and guessing games that end in 8 turns for the latter.

The biggest info on animals in the game comes from off had references, Pokedex species names, and the occasional Indian Elephant. Humans could also probably use TMs on themselves if they wanted to. However, like all Pokémon except Mew I expect humans have a limited capacity for what moves they can learn themselves. Humans can learn pretty much almost all physical normal and fighting moves. This can extend into some rock and steel type moves as well as dark type. The psychic aptitude could lead humans into having a knack for learning ghost and fairy type moves as well. But I don't think humans can learn Giga Drain or Fire Blast. Duskull and that line act as reapers of souls and likely aren't from the world or are spirits who passed on and got a job working the night shift in the afterlife, since they're single minded, or hell the lesser ones could just be ghosts of predator type pokemon.
Pumpkaboo could be the ghosts of plants rather then people, since they don't really have a backstory like Phantump does.
The sand thing from SM is a self-propagating spirit that creates more when it kills, it's origin could be anything but algae that washed up on a shore or someone buried alive by sand.
And so on and so forth, japanese ghosts are more about being weird parts of nature or products of it on all levels rather then aberrations, it ties in to their whole Youkai myth. The other half of japanese ghosts is more recent and deals with grudges, so you have ghosts like Banette that are literally discarded dolls given un-life for no reason other then committing a wrong against an object by not respecting it.
Ghosts in japan are fucking great, they're all over the place because their version of religion outside of the old Shinto ways was the old parent trick of "If you act like an ass the ghosts will get you" and making shit up and embellishing stories that get out of proportion.
