Most of Super Mario World's music is originally written to be ragtime, so you hear a lot of rag on it, but it's interesting hearing music composed for a specifically different style turned into ragtime. Zelda in ragtime gets a really interesting flavor.

Learning music is like learning a whole other language, so don't sweat it. You may not be wired for it. Unless you learn from a young age, and have no nutritional deficiencies and no physical injuries, you're not likely to be able to earn a living from it, so pick up a hobby that is fun to you instead.
07869b No.14903427
>>14903371
It takes a lot longer than 3 years to be able to play with that ability. Pick up music at the upper and middle register of your ability. Middle to keep your skill fresh and upper to push up your ceiling. There's plenty of music that sounds more difficult than it is, so it won't push your comfort too painfully, but will still help you grow and have fun doing it.
Piano Squall has music of varying difficulty ( http://pianosquall.com/sheet-music/ ). I'd recommend The Evangelion one as a medium difficult piece. A beginner can pick it up with enough effort (it was my first piano piece), but it even poses a challenge for skilled amateurs, so don't feel discouraged if it gives you some difficulty. The Full Metal Alchemist one is a bit more difficult but still approachable for a medium-level amateur.
Promise is also not too difficult to get into: https://www.scribd.com/document/70704880/Silent-Hill-2-Promise-Piano
Keep practicing (especially chords and their inversions, as the left hand is usually just progressing chords, or running them. A lot of melodies are just exploded chords to some degree as well), and keep challenging yourself. If learning a piece isn't possible no matter how much you're trying, it's too difficult. If learning a piece is just rote memorization without any real challenge, it's not difficult enough. You can do it. Everybody can do it. Just don't give up. Practice every day for at least 15 minutes, and make sure you take at least a 15-minute break for every hour of practice you do.
To stay on topic to the thread, here's a classic Mario World rag played in true ragtime style and then in 1.5 time.
07869b No.14903486
>>14903416
Not making a living from it doesn't mean that it can't be fun and rewarding. Tons of hobbies are still worth doing even if you won't become the best in the world at it, or good enough to sustain yourself forever on it. I agree that if you aren't having fun, you shouldn't be doing it as a hobby, but there is a middle ground to a hobby that most people end up in, and which is still incredibly rewarding, and you can still grow continuously and eventually be incredibly impressive, even if you aren't breaking any records or pulling piles of cash.
I know musicians who never touched an instrument until they were in their 30s, and they do public performances and amaze decently-sized crowds. They aren't savants or geniuses, they just worked hard to cultivate a skill enough to be better than the majority of the public. It takes a lot of work, but it's within reach of the vast majority of people.

If I'm going to be spending 90% of my free time busting my ass and not getting paid for it, it had better manifest in a useful skill that will save my life, or save a shitload of money when dumb shit happens.

fun fact: despite being known as "the tetris song" for pretty much an entire generation or more, korobeiniki is an ancient russian folk song that is, in true slav fashion, unbelievably depressing. it's about a (((merchant))) boy who falls in love with a farmer girl, and they promise to meet in a certain field after his next, last trade caravan. on this caravan he buys her a wedding ring, but on the way back to the farm he's attacked by highwaymen and killed, while his girl still waits at that field every night for the rest of her life

Not the same anon, but I encoded those a long while back. I do know that was when the limit was 8 MB. The ffmpeg version copy I had was really weird and would flip out once it got near 8MB. In some cases my cpu would turn off because it was starting to over heat. I'm not sure if that was because of the kooky version I had or what. Also, 8 MB you could get reasonable 2 minutes worth of quality. For some reason there is a huge "sunk cost" for bytes. 10 MB around the same quality and you can squeeze about 5 minutes. Thats not including if you do something fancy. This was when I was just learning how to webm. No idea why its out of order though, or why a part is missing.
