Post and discuss extremely violent and disturbing-for-normalfags games.
Not some sissy bait games without any essence to them like Hatred or D44M, but legit gory shit with good gameplay and animated guts like Hotline Miami or Manhunt.

Hotline Miami and Manhunt were both violent on an ironic and critique about portraying violence. Manhunt 2 was less about the cultural grandstanding and more about the insanity of violence though, so its a more straightforward example.

You literally use blood as a means to level up. Enemies bleed like water fountains. Different weapons actually cause different amounts of blood to spill (knives cause much more bleeding than grenade launchers)

Edgy means without substance or meaning. Games like Postal 2 are excused for being comedic. Games like Postal 1 are excused for being legitimate examples of story and meaning through violence. Games like Hatred are viewed as substance less because the main character starts the game by saying "God I fucking hate humanity, time to kill everyone." and proceeds to be Postal Remastered except shittier because whoever made it had no clear understanding of exactly what the fuck he played as a child, like Bethesda. Mitchell from HDtFM is a edgy character because he goes out of his way to make as many poor decisions as possible over "Muh face."

For sake of adding to the list, I think Gears of War was "renowned" for its violence. It's been a while, but I recall enemies being quartered when you blast them with a shotgun, you can curb stomp downed enemies, and heads pop pretty gruesomely when you hit them with a headshot.

I'm not too sure about Manhunt being an ironic critique but there is some evidence that supports the idea that Hotline Miami was doing some ironic critiquing.
HM1 was just gameplay so there isn't really much to say there. HM2 is where the critiquing starts becoming believable. In the Hawaiian stages the colonel shows signs of liking violence. When he goes full retard with the puma skin on his face he talks about how deep down everyone likes violence and that its a part of nature. The colonel's claim is easily disproven by Beard, a guy who is only fighting for what is right, not because he wants to. Also, there is the iconic phrase "Do you like hurting other people" that runs across the HM franchise.

Without featuring any gore The Warriors has some of the most effective violence in all of video games. It really manages to capture a heavy violent mood.
Fallout 1 & 2 has some really neat violence as well.
