Unlocked the classic Mario outfit though I don't think I'll bother with the full game if this is Nintendo's net code.

The input lag was literally around half a second, and I just fucking gave up halfway in as a result.

Not much, really. Power Tennis had super moves and 64 didn't, but there's a few characters in 64 that aren't in Power Tennis. I've only played those two anyway.

Played some matches, didn't have lag issues but that's probably luck. This had better be a thinly veiled stress test.

Power tennis had loads of little extras 64 didn't, like minigames, and the game boy games had an RPG added to it. After that, i have no fucking clue, the wii u game looked bare bones as fuck, and i didn't even look at the 3ds version. This game claims to have a story mode, and it has Gyroscope first person aiming and fucking Max payne gimmick, and it's all so stupid.

Basically a steady progression of options to deal with runaway balls, if you ignore Open and Ultra Smash.

64 is the basic one, "simple mode" in the later games is basically just "N64 mode." Power Tennis added the defensive half of power shots, which can recover lost balls. And Aces has the meter, which you can spend to either Max Payne towards a ball, use to specifically choose where to shoot, or do basically an aimable power shot, at maximum meter.

It also has the trick shots, which allow you to save a ball careening towards the opposite side of the court, and gain meter if you time it right, to boot.

And of course, this all goes out the window if you introduce a lot of input lag, since half of the back and forth in the game is just pure reactionary. Go watch some videos of the Ace difficulty in Power Tennis if you don't believe me. I will say that from my experience with CPUs in the demo, it seems like the meter is a worthwhile addition. It reduces the guessing game aspect of charging your power shots in Power Tennis, and gives players lots of options to handle any situation. While at the same time not breaking the game, and rewarding players who are good enough to not need it, by letting essentially perform a power shot if they max out the meter.

The additions are good, the presentation is slick, the gameplay is top notch, but it's unplayable online in its current state, and will likely be so come release.

Got as far as the semi-finals and my opponent was a Bowser with a 4 bar connection. Awesome, I can handle this. Start the match and then the connection immediately drops to 1. Can't return a hit because of delay input. Fuck Nintendo and their shitty online services, this got me to quit Splatoon and it's going to get me to quit tennis before it even starts.

Considering how easy is to break rackets if you use the power shot when you serve (Which I still can't figure out how does that work yet)

Also stun locking them helps sometimes but its way too broken as Bowser and Chain Chomp.

Was happy to see a new Mario Tennis with actual work and care put into it but hearing the online quality is shit is very disappointing. They better fix that shit in time for the full release or it'll be their blunder of the year (other than Smash Bros) in my eyes. I guess this is why demos always hurt sales in the end.

Powershots were imbalanced shit. Most defensive powershots sucked. Thank god you could turn them off. Luigi's offensive shot (reverses movement direction) was probably the most annoying.

And Nintendo is probably going to add more characters later on. I mean Dry Bones is in the demo tutorial and fully functional but isn't on there, so he's probably going to be added later. And if they add Dry Bones they may as well add a normal Koopa too. I'm hoping for a Shy Guy, and Diddy Kong. Maybe Dixie too. Maybe even Pauline since they brought her back for Odyssey, I'm sure some people would be overjoyed for that.

I hope they don't do more cross-over bullshit like they did with Mario Kart 8. I don't want to see more Inklings. Though, admittedly, I would accept something out of left-field, like Little Mac or Ness.
