Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet

Can't really recommend it unless you liked Freedom Wars (same dev), and the melee combat with lightsabers is pretty weak and practically suicide until you learn how to block bullets from Cyber Jesus himself. Not only does this not happen until about 90% through the game, you don't unlock the ability to use sword and gun at the same time until that same event, so you're practically done with the game by the time you can do it.

And before anyone ask, the gun is used only to vibrate the sword, not for the bullets, so no aiming or precision needed.

The Phantasy Star Universe/Portable games let you use a single-handed melee weapon (sword, claw, etc.) with a pistol at the same time. Only Phantasy Star Portable 2 has a control system worth playing though.

X-Com UFO Defense and Terror From the Deep lets you have a prod/drill in one hand and a gun in the other. If you've got enough time units you can probably use both in one turn. If I remember right Dishonored also allowed you to have a gun in one hand and a knife in the other.

Fencer in EDF4/4.1/5 can use both at the same time, and it's one of his best loadout combos in 5 as it allows him to chain both vertical and horizontal boosts for some next level crazy. Pic shows a hammer and chaingun, but there's tons of different melee and ranged weapons you can mix.

Tales of Xillia, if you play as Alvin anyhow (he's also playable in the sequel). ToX2's Ludger can also quickly switch between handguns and swords (along with each having different custom mapping for artes) on the fly, but can't just have one sword and one gun out. Hubert in ToGf is similar, able to split his glaive into guns and recombine them back into his melee weapon, but it's one or the other at a time.

I didn't mind Jude too much as protag. If anything, Alvin's the guy most people are prone to hate. If you want Alvin as the outright protagonist of a work, I hear he got a book focused on his past. Japan only, of course.

Do like his "mobster" look in X2.
