Playing around with Fire 'N Ice's level editor, I noticed that the jap version can have more custom stages, 22 IIRC, and with each ten, it switches to the graphics and music style of a different world. Since world 4 had my favorite song, and I couldn't reach it normally, I opened up a hex editor, figured out which value held the custom level number and changed it so that I could have my favorite song in a custom stage.
That's the only one that comes to mind, but I'm sure I could think of more if I tried.

In Trickster Online I was hunting the same boss over and over to get some rare sword for more than 1 year. The thing about the boss was that it could only be accessed once per hour. I ended up killing him 1200 times before he dropped the sword I wanted, most other people got it after 100 tries or so. At that point I was so used to doing this that I didn't even feel happy or anything after it finally dropped. I just kept going until I had 2200 kills or so in the end.

The myriad things I saw back when I played FFXIV. There seems to be a significant minority of people who don't actually play the game all that much, as in engage with the raiding or crafting or anything like that, but prefer to just exist in Eorzea as a catgirl or whatever. They literally hang out in game, sun at the beaches, have tea at eachother's houses, shit like that. It's basically second life for them. I had a friend who fell into that shit and would literally spend upwards of 2-3 hours hanging out in one of the main cities, in one spot, with a bunch of other boring assholes just emoting at eachother and gossiping about other mutants who do the same thing. Not to mention the massive amounts of weird gay flirting (nearly everyone who plays a female character is a guy).
I can't even begin to understand the appeal. If you're going to waste your time playing some bullshit anime videogame at least play the damn game.

There was even a rather numerous guild consisting entirely of bank alts that was named "Banish [Anon]".
Got Winterspring Frostsaber mount that requires 320 hours of realtime grind.
Traveled all around Kalimdor continent on the outer edge of the map beyond the fatigue waters. GM showed up at one point because me swimming in buggy areas triggered anti-cheat, he ended up porting me to the Developer Island.

I've noticed that the more worn-out, tired, miserable, and generally weak I get, the faster my reaction times and the better I am at certain things. It's not because I notice things faster or my conscious awareness increases, it's because my body starts acting on its own and I just sort of wind up along for the ride. There's one particular example in highschool I like to give whenever I bring this up. I had been up for about 48 hours at that point, was sort of shuffling along in a half-dead haze, when I noticed my hand suddenly hurt. I tried to lift my hand up to take a look at it and figure out why, only to smack my knuckles on the back of my head, because for some reason my hand was behind my head instead of by my side where I thought it was. I moved my hand around my head and saw that, for some reason, there was a baseball in it, and then immediately heard a bunch of cries along the lines of "Holy shit, that was so badass!"
Apparently, someone had pitched a fastball at the back of my head, and my hand caught it without me knowing that there was a ball rocketing towards me or even seeing where it was. Everyone that saw it thought it was the most badass thing they'd ever seen.
I have no explanation whatsoever for why this happens, but it is consistent. Eventually, I decided to see how far I could I could push it, and if it I would finally let me do it, so I stayed up for three consecutive days without eating anything. I only drank water. I blacked out around 60 hours in.
When I checked my computer, I saw proof that my plan had payed off: I had saved a bunch of replays of me finally 1ccing various Touhou games on Lunatic.

Oh god that reminds me of trying to 100% 4 Heroes of Light. I couldn't actually do it because the last item I needed was randomly in a random chest in the randomly generated dungeons. I went through all the floors otherwise required for 100% and didn't find it. In the end I cheated it in and I don't feel bad about it, I broke the game in every other legitimate way I could to get everything else, fuck.

The guy quickly looks around him to see if anyone else reacts. He was smirking as if he was being super ironic or something but he obviously wasn't (I can tell from first-hand experiences). The guy playing the game didn't notice anything. I couldn't eat my mac n' cheese with chicken strips and bread crumbs for a few minutes because I was just so blown away by the amount of autism that occurred before my eyes within just a few short seconds.

In WoW back in early TBC I was for some leveling guild fumbling my way to 70 when someone in the guild announced that there would be an in-game funeral for someone in the weekend.
We all had to get the tuxedo set and there was a RP walk from Northshire Abbey to the Stormwind cathedral.
Another was a few years ago when I was playing FF14, again in some random leveling guild, when two randoms joined, invited everyone to their in-game wedding and then abruptly left a couple of days later. I've never seen attention whores like that ever before.

In 7 Days to Die every charcter I make gets his/her own backstory and the story contuines based on whats going on ingame. Favorite one being a Catholic man who lost his wife and kid during the beginning of the infection who is fighting severe depression. He was cheating on her and felt horribly guilty for it since he still loved his family very much. His wife and kid died while he was out cheating and he found their remains l, finished his wife (nothing left of his child) and almost killed himself. Being a religous man he winded up not doing so but started to slowly go insane, and decided to build a sancutary church for any survivors to make up for all he has done. He winds up getting infected after weeks of scavenging and nearly dies. Going insane and hallucinating. Survives somehow and recovers somewhat with some damage and continues on trying to build a church.that isn't even all.

The most interesting part is that from what I can tell, Planetside 2 is great at balancing all the guns from all three factions. Of course, with new patches coming soon (Battle rifles, oh joy) we'll probably see a few weeks or months of unbalanced play for the sake of shekels.
Can't help but enjoy the game despite its many flaws, however.
