Probably rng. Sly has the 'Monster' skill, which is 'Finisher'+'Stardom'+'Adapt'. Adapt is situational to the point of being junk and Stardom is very build-around. Finisher however is just a boost to the damage of your first two uses of your finisher and Marbo has a pretty even chance of using it across the damage categories. So if he cashes those two uses in early he has a lead. Since how hard you can hit without being countered depends on how beat up your opponent already is, a lead like that can snowball. I get that you want to give 33 more uumph, but voice acting is not the way to do it.
The best thing you can do to is make a video (iirc you're already working on this) introducing all of the fighters and also making sure you have an extensive story line prepared for each fight and each outcome. 33 should be the catharsis. No new plots.
You might want to also consider doing your own custom wrestler walk-ins. The in-game one is pretty lackluster. If you can, maybe edit some clips from whatever the character is from as if an introduction, complete with music and, if necessary, their own voice clips (not autistic voice acting)
The main problem with voice acting is that it's doubtful anyone can pull it off convincingly, even paid VA faggots. Plus, some of the characters dont even have voices. If you need voices that badly, just cut some audio clips from whatever the character is originally from.

DitF plot is kind of hard to describe to a non-watcher. She would probably get angry if any of the other girls made fun of her horns or her love for her darling. It's not just you. Making a pure grappler is hard without moves that focus on softening the wrestlers before submission. Try the face down suplex/lift or the MMA guard position lift up if you want moves that are good at racking up damage after knockdowns.

There are moves that a submission artist or grappler style wrassler can use that aren't explicitly holds that they can use to push the opponent deeper down
there's also different counter rates for different MMA positions, different specific angles of holds…
Grapplers are actually scary as fuck but like many other things in the game if you design them in a way where they're going to try to go for too much too fast they'll get punished hard. And for them, it's not like sneaking in the big powerbomb early is rewarding for the risk, getting 2-3 ticks of damage off a hold is nothing compared to the brutality of counterattacks.
There's a way to do it.
