You play one game and only that game until you finish it. This isn't rocket calculus.

it always depends on the game. if i really liked the game and what's been added is something huge like an ng+ or a new chapter of the story or something of course i'll go back and play more. if it's a dumb little thing that is just there for fun i'll dick around with it until i'm bored then move on (the chainsaw in SH2 comes to mind, or the bonus levels in goldeneye/perfect dark). if it's a game i had to struggle to finish for whatever reason i probably won't even think anything of it unless i hear that whatever i unlocked makes the game suck less

If you really have a problem with this OP, do not ever play skyrim or fallout 4, they both have radiant quests, or basically infinity(like this website) quests for you to sink your teeth into. I have almost 500 hours in each game and haven't even touched the surface yet. Not to mention the main quest and dlc adds hundreds of thousands of hours into the game. Don't play either game If you value your time, you will literally never need another game after. You've been warned!!!!

I don't have backlogs, and I don't treat games as job.

I like something I play it. Right now.

If I don't anymore I stop playing.

If game is good enough I proceed to 100% it, some games I 100%'d tiwce like Tomato or Xenoblade X.

And I have like 450 hours in Dark Souls because 10/10 GOAT.

Some games I drop mid-way and move onto something else.

The whole idea of even having backlogs is horrifying to me and I'm glad I'm not that autistic.

If you later find out there's extra content you missed, that's just incentive to replay it.

There are so many amazing games I have yet to play or discover. I'm always finding new ones. People get caught on having to play the latest games, but you'll realize that they don't compare to some of the earlier games. Lots of people forget this and are content to play the same tripe for ages, unsatisfied, as long it gives them a slight burning sensation.

Let us not allow ourselves to be stuck with mediocrity. Demand we play the best games possible with the time we have.

It's literally just a .txt document you put games that looked cool so you don't forget. Makes it easier to find a game to play after beating one. If that's horrifyingly autistic to you then I don't know what else to say.

But there is a limit to how many games you can play since time is finite. I play the same way you just described, but even I have a backlog still because there is only so much time in a day to play video games. A game might take anywhere from a few hours to to 100+ to complete. But it only takes a few seconds of reading an anon's post or seeing a gameplay video to add another game to the list of those you want to play. So it is very easy for games to added at a much higher speed than the speed in which you can play and complete them.

Just leave them unfinished if you don't want to finish them. There's zero point 100%ing a game if you just want to get it over with, at that point you should realize what you're playing isn't enjoyable or worth your time.

I do love after credits content though. Especially if they're an entirely different campaign or a series of challenge levels that completely elevates the game

I differentiate between "beaten" and "completed" and decide if a game is worth my time to "complete" based on how I fell after beating it, and whether or not the unlocked content or unfinished objectives are worth my time. Not everything is worth going 100% for and you have to set aside your autism and realize that.

I just made a spreadsheet with every game in my library, pick 1-2 to play (usually a longer title and a shorter one to help break up the monotony) and I don't play anything else but those titles until I beat them.

Your biggest enemy while trying to keep yourself from impulse buying or just switching games is burnout. If you start to mentally pull away from the game take a break for a couple days and hit up your fallback game.

Just beat the game with the ending(s) you want and come back to it later if you care enough. If not, then put the game down and move on. Extra unlockables are just for the hardcore completionist players anyways. In the immortal words of Reggie "I don't know when to just let a joke die" Fils-Aime, If it's not fun then what's the point?
