Rot13 is used on the share thread, along with the hitler picture, to keep newfags, CIA and normalfags out. Before both of those were in place, normalfags openly shared the links as well as the share thread link itself on fucking facebook and whatever, which gave us a lot of unwanted exposure. With rot13 you can't use bots to find links or hashes and you keep the normalfags out.
Besides it's fucking ROT13, it's fucking Caesar cipher that a fucking robot can solve in a few tries and is one of the first few things anyone that googled "cipher" before will try. The only reason why you can't solve it is because you're either too retarded or too lazy, in the mods case it was the former.
Don't ban ROT13, walk with the mods and tell them to read the fucking OP of the thread before banning everyone, as well as fucking checking IPs before assuming it's one guy on a proxy.
I got banned for "spam" after a single fucking post, despite posting on various other threads a few minutes earlier.

When a new game comes out, create a cyclical sticky thread for that game and for a period of time, then delete any other threads that pop up in the catalog. I usually make the VN threads so I think I can explain this at least.
Some VNs just happen to be video games while there are some that are interactive DVDs like Phantom of the Inferno. This is because what determines a game or software as being a VN is an ADV (https://vndb.org/g32) describing most of the actions, thoughts, environment, and narrative through text. It also matters that you'll be spending most of the time reading instead of playing (assuming you're not grinding if the game allows that). For this reason many adventure games in Japan are also considered VNs.
Instead of having to explain which VN is and isn't a video game to every single person who could be curious or shitposting, VNs were all allowed to make things simpler and not devolve every discussion into semantics (like in Rougelike threads where the definition of rougelike and rogue-lite are sometimes drown out the discussion of the games). Even then, visual novels have been on consoles and PC for decades now and I see no reason to argue that every single one of those are/are not a game when the person asking can look that information up themselves. If they really cared, they would request a VN that has gameplay and people here would recommend many VNs with gameplay like Ace Attorney, Sengoku Rance, or Utawarerumono. That way they can have gameplay to go with their story.
There is a /vn/ board but it's dead and the fans are spread out. VNs take a lot of time to read and therefor there isn't much to post or discuss without spoiling a lot. Having everyone contained in one thread actually allows for some discussion and news to easily be spread. /a/ and /animu/ barely ever discuss them either so /v/ is a much better place. Even on one of the fastest boards, the VN threads can last up to a month which shows you how slow they can be.
