PNG compresses much better than JPG when there are few colors in an image, and does it losslessly because PNGs supports color palettes and black and white whereas with JPGs you're stuck with 8 bit YUV or RGB.
When an image is pure black and white PNG easily beats JPG because the PNG picture will be 1 bit color and likely mostly flat (which is when PNG shines), whereas the JPG image will still have 8 bit color, compression artifacts, and JPG compression isn't as effective as PNG on flatness.
GIF can actually beat both on those kinds of images at times though, and also do it losslessly.

that is a terrible example. Of course the jpeg is gona look like dogshit at that compression. If you were to have a of similar compression to the PNG it would still be a smaller size.
The correct format is jpg2000. That compression format can get a 1.8gb tif down to around 200mb at like 90% quality.

The fast-paced action nature of this game makes me find it similar to Hexen or Heretic, but I like it better than those games because the combat is faster-paced and more lethal for both the player and the enemies. I would say that Nox is to Hexen as Wolf3D is to Doom, and it makes sense that I enjoy Nox more than Hexen because I also like Wolf3D more than Doom.

Nobody cares about your shitty screenshot enough to warrant a 1000% filesize increase. Nobody is going to see the compression artifacts in a photo-like image to begin with without deliberately squinting and zooming and trying to find them.
