Reminder that e-sports is a cancer that kills video games by sucking all the fun out of them. I bought Rocket League Christmas 2015 and it was so much fun, it was just a silly game about soccer with cars that you do sick aerial tricks with. Now it's the same except everyone who plays the game takes it way too fucking seriously.
Rocket Pass will just ruin it more because all these crates and pass things do is increase the faggotry of the playerbase by encouraging the pointless dick measuring contest of which faggot wasted the most time and money to get a specific cosmetic item. I hate it all, I want all this loot box, season pass, cosmetic pass shit to end. This game started as a "You paid $20, enjoy playing the game and unlocking all the content" experience and has become a CS:GO tier shitshow.
I fucking despise that modern games, especially multiplayer ones, are talked about less because of how fun they may be, but are discussed more because of the new and creative ways the developers have decided to be greedy. Loathing is the only way to describe how I feel about the fact that this is weekly news. I remember when this shit was once a month at the most. The only good news is that this could potentially cause the next vidya "crash" as many studios are putting all their eggs into one, usually loot box based, basket and end up closing their doors as a result.

I play this game regularly and I have to say the devs are getting more and more cancerous with their features, but most of it is just shiny bits to distract low attention-span fags who will blow money on useless shit. The game itself is mechanically pure in that it's free from paid advantages and other nonsense, so I can't be too annoyed beyond having to look at this shit.
I was more annoyed they removed some maps from ranked and casual because esports fags couldn't adapt to the slightly different map layout and that the devs will ban you for being "toxic" in a game filled with shittalkers (you really shouldn't be talking anyway) and that they'll flat-out ban you from multiplayer if you go too far in their eyes. In a game that's basically multiplayer only that's just plain jewery.
That aside, their explanation of this Pass thing is as vague and filled with buzzwords as can be. I have no idea what the thing actually does beyond that it will give you some customization items.

If you buy this you can unlock items for a character. But only if you win the achievments it has listed for you. So, you dont get any items if you buy it, you gotta work for it and you might not even get all the items if you dont work hard enough.

Nope.
Lag compensation ensures it's luck. Previously hitting the ball was client side and then it was synchronized between players after the hit reached the server. You may think that would cause problems by people scoring before others could see the ball moving due to ping, but the ball won't travel that far in just a few ms. The game is fast paced but not twich based. Dividing the ball looked wonky because of that but it was a rare thing due to the game's nature.
So to fix this rare ocurrence no player cared about and would only ever be a real issue at over 200 ping they made ball physics server side with the client visually compensating for lag so suddenly every time you touch the ball there's your ping + the game's lag compensation at play, essentially making where and how you hit the ball random killing any skill and introducing luck.
This is all because they wanted to make the game look good on twitch, they broke the gameplay because of streamer shekels.
During the beta it was incredible fun, but then they did the one thing that could most efficiently and thoroughly ruin it.

It's a competitive game with short matches so you can pick it up whenever. It gets boring pretty quickly so it's not really something to spend entire days on but it's something that you just play in short bursts and then come back to tomorrow.
That being said, it's more fun with a friend to do duos with. I haven't played it in months because my friend dropped it.
