dc0e99 No.14765724

I have right here:

- My old Game Cube console, with GameBoy Player

- An adapter for SD cards

- A couple of memory cards

- The Action Replay disc for game Cube

Not pictured: a 62 GB SD card.

The Action Replay and SD adaptor I got days ago on a whim, and I haven't used my game Cube for years. I figured I could give it some use.

Now, I'm not stupid but also I'm not very smart. Could someone please help me set it so games can be booted from the SD card?

Also, what other fun things can one do with these?

Listen to this man. The Wii is a better option is you combine it with an HDD. You get the advantage of also begin able to play the entire Wii library which has a lot of good stuff mixed in with the shovelware. If you worried about playing them on the original console there is good news for you. The Wii is basically a Gamecube with a lot of extra stuff added on top so you're going to get the same experience. Get a cheap one, softmod it, hook up a USB 2.0 HDD and you can pirate everything. You can store the entire Gamecube library on an HDD with a lot of room to spare and the load times are much faster than they are from disc. The Wii also has a lot of good emulators so you get all of that as well.

What you're doing is a fun little project and I'm sure you can play around the slow load time but if you're after a machine to pirate the entire library or to just play your own games without wear and tear on the discs then just get a second hand Wii.

>The Wii is a better option is you combine it with an HDD.

Except for the part where GC has video output that's just a smidgen bit better than the Wii's output. Also no Game Boy Player on Wii.

This is true but the Wii is pretty good with the right cables, the ones that come with them are usually trash. Also, with the Wii you gain some other things. For example, it's easier to run fan translation patches. You can either patch the game itself or drop the files on the SD-card. If you have the disc for the game you can do it even on a Wii that hasn't been softmodded.

I run 99% of my stuff on the Wii and keep the GC around for the 1% of things that aren't supported on it.

5a3777 No.14766727

>>14766704

>>14766710

Also OP I forgot to mention. You can't play Gameboy games with the Player add-on but you can run the Gameboy emulators/roms from the HDD. No emulation is perfect but the Gameboy emulators for the Wii are really good. I played a lot of GB Advanced games for the first time on the Wii simply because I had never owned one but suddenly had access to its entire library. I didn't buy any handhelds after the Game Gear and GBC so it was all new stuff to me at the time. They reminded me of a lot of SNES games that I enjoyed.

Anyway I'm not trying to shit up your thread with long posts about how good the Wii is. You just seem like you're trying to build something to play GC games on real hardware without using the discs and the Wii is the best thing that I've found for that. Best of luck.

Google it. It's not super hard I've explained it a thousand times on the GC subfeggit and I'm not typing it all out again. I had to play around with SD cards before I found one that would load games past their menus. A bad SD card can be a bottleneck that will black-screen games after the menus. Also that memorycard-shapped WiikeySD adapter is the only one that will work. The included adapter with the AR is garbage.

Also, compatability isn't perfect. There's a list out there. Lots of games have to have audio streaming disabled to run which means no music. Some have to be "trimmed" to run. Some don't run no matter what, like Eternal Darkness.

Still fun to play around with. Swiss runs JAP and PAL ISOs no problem, which is neato.

GBAtemp is where all the faggots that made software used to hang out. The forums have all the information you need in them. I'm sure it's full of SJWs by now so don't get too attached to the community. In 2009 it wasn't that bad.

A quick rundown of what you will need from memory;

>An SD-card (not SDHC/mini) for doing the initial softmod. You won't need it later but it's easier if you just leave it in there to store applications on as some will not run from USB

>An external USB 2.0 HDD, check GBAtemp to make sure yours is compatible (most are). Avoid USB 3.0 stuff because a lot of it refuses to work or doesn't work all of the time. You can use a thumb drive or any USB 2.0 storage device but the HDD is the best of the bunch. A friend of mine used his PSP for storage back in the day

>Older exploits required certain games. The first one required Twilight Princess. A game isn't required anymore as you can run the exploit from the home screen but double check just to be sure.

That's it, it's the easiest console out there to softmod because Nintendo's security is awful and it got a ton of support from the homebrew community back in the day. You'll need to do some extra steps to get back-ups loading properly but it's easy enough if you can follow basic directions. You're basically going to be installing files to the Wii's internal storage to allow it to run back-ups from disc/USB. Just takes a few minutes. You'll also spend some time initially figuring out which back-up loader you like the best so plan to set aside a day/weekend tweaking the thing to get it just how you like it. Once you have some games running and loading correctly go ahead and start downloading everything you want and transferring it to the HDD. Which is the most annoying part of the process considering Wii games are 4-8GB each and USB 2.0 is very slow.

One last thing, you can pirate Virtual Console games as well. They come in the .wad file format. These are supposed to be installed to the Wii's internal storage which is very limited but there are various loaders that allow you to run them from USB/SD-Card storage. There is also software that allows you to have a virtual NAND on the SD-card but it runs a bit slower. I just use a combination of the first two options. Games I play a lot are on internal storage and the rest of the library is on the HDD. There are a lot of original/exclusive titles that were download only so don't overlook these. Don't bother with the emulated Virtual Console games as the homebrew emulators provide a better experience and allow you to run ROMs without modifying them. N64 .wads are the only ones really worth bothering with.

After you're done you'll have a nice little console that can emulate everything up to PS1/N64 pretty well, run GC/Wii games from the HDD, and do some misc. media center stuff (it doesn't support HD video though but anything in SD is fine). All without getting off your ass. Since the Wii has a lot of different controllers it works out pretty well. If you're going to be playing a lot I suggest picking up some classic controllers for your Wiimotes. For GC games the Wavebird is your best option because standard GC controllers have pretty short wires on them.
