Studying every day until my japanese is good enough for White Album 2. Played the WA remake on PS3 a while ago and I could read it pretty effortlessly, but WA2 uses slightly more complex dialogue and narration. Also waiting for 3.67+ for the Uta remake.

Considering picking one of these up. How is the emulation/CFW for it? Can I get PS1 games on it as easily as I could on the PSP? I have gondola for anyone who can answer.
dc0cb2 No.14765402
>>14765361
If you can get your hands on one with firmware 3.60 or lower, then it's piss easy to hack (a hack for higher firmware versions is supossedly coming later this year). Once hacked, you can access the PSP emulated within it and put PS1/PSP on it easily (via USB or FTP)
>Storage
Once hacked, you can use an adapter that lets you put a MicroSD card into the GameCard slot, saving you from SONY's jewry with memory cards.
>Emulation
You're kinda stuck with retroarch and MGBA for now, but they work pretty fine all things considered. If you want you can run emulators/homebrew on PSP mode as well
96ac68 No.14765427
>>14765361
>How is the emulation/CFW for it?
CFW currently requires a system with 3.60 or below, there is an undisclosed exploit that works up to the current OFW but it's being held until EoL.
It has emulators for most major systems prior to 5th gen plus a few extraneous emulators Amiga, Dosbox, etc
>Can I get PS1 games on it as easily as I could on the PSP
The PS1 can be emulated through the PSP emulator or Retroarch, from what I've heard Retroarch runs some PS1 games better than the onboard PSP emulator but I haven't tried it.
The PSP emulator itself can run any PSP homebrew so you can use PSP emulators as well but it will run it with PSP specs reduced RAM etc.
If you're planning to pick one up now be prepared to mostly buy physical games and wait for an exploit.

You might be able to backup all the saves using CMA/QCMA and transfer them over but that would also take a decent portion of time. because Sony backs up the entire game

What do you think CFW is used for, you silly willy ?
Of couse you can pirate on the Vita, it even has a Freeshop-like program so you can download games directly from Sony. Now that you can upgrade a hacked console to 3.65 firmware (ONLY FROM AN ALREADY HACKED 3.60 VITA) every game is playable without issue.

The Vita has especially the second analog stick that made certain PS1 games now compatible unlike on PSP (ex. Ace Escape) or rather easier to play when you change the control mapping in the settings (such as the Echo Night games by redirecting all the movement and camera controls into the analog sticks). L2/R2 are based on the back touchscreen, which isnt really practical but still better than the weird mapping back on the PSP.
>>14765520
One thing I've noticed is how my legal purchases of PSP games are a lot less bloated in data space than the ISOs you download/convert. It's very often a difference of 200-400MB which is quite a lot once you start storing a certain amount of titles, and I guess this supposes the Vita can directly run encrypted games. I also like the scanned manuals, which is why I'd like something similar to this rather than this Adrealine alternative.

>my legal purchases of PSP games are a lot less bloated in data space than the ISOs you download/convert.
That might have to do with the source of the ISOs
In addition to ISOs being uncompressed disk images UMDs were compressed AND contained PSP FW updates and padding files.
Supposedly the padding helped loading times but I heard some people claim they were some retarded form of anti-piracy, making games bigger and somehow more difficult to share, I'm guessing the extra 50-100 MBs did affect some people back in 2006.

As well as dealing the digital-only releases and lack of 64gb card in the West (I'd also argue about nothing in the library picking the interest of non-weebs). It was a total mess on that part, which I cant blame anyone for going through the piracy way instead. Nothing pisses me off more than that TheFlow fag virtue-signaling against piracy

To an extent the digital-only releases weren't the worst part. although I do think digital-only is shit for most releases minus the most low budget of low budget titles
The worst part was that they forgot that "the future" needed more storage space at reasonable prices.
>I'd also argue about nothing in the library picking the interest of non-weebs
That would have been less of an issue had they not advertised it as having more games for non-weebs.
Bunch of non-weebs buy the thing after seeing the advertisements, realize there's maybe two or three games they want to play, and never pick up the system after madden 13 or whatever the last release was.

If it's just dust get a can of compressed air and clean it out.

There are tweezers specifically designed for working with electronics. They should work fine as long as you spend more than 99 cents, just make sure you grip somewhere that won't crack or tear.

As for DB contribution, unfortunately you'll have to refer to Reddit since that's where most of it is handled. The gist is that you use a browser plugin to get the URLs, and there's some tool to convert the NoNpDRM license files into a zRIF. IIRC PSP store access got a lockout first in JP, then announced all areas barely a few weeks after that. We have no reason not to expect the same this time, especially since "physical" barely exists in the west to begin with. Particularly in vein of Sony making moves to ramp down on both PS3 and Vita services (cutting them out of PSPlus free game rotation, shutting down PSVideo viewing).
>There were sales during the Golden Week period, and there is a current one that is mostly indieshit and another about Steins Gate 0.
There's always a sale this time of year, as is around the November/December time. But offerings are scant between those points save a few pub discounts. And "sale" is pushing it with titles that are at best, 20%. Compared to EU and US stores, it's abysmal.

The EU/US mainstream cares less and less for physical releases outside of "collectors" editions. Online platforms only offer massive discounts in those regions because it's seen as normal.
JP still sees digital distribution as newish shit and doesn't know what to do with it half the time. which is probably why a lot of console ports on PC are restricted for the JP region.

That article writer particularly is known to write the most retarded garbage on the planet, look at the PC builder simulator that reads like a crying middle school girl with a megaphone
There's only so much challenge in finding exploits in similar hardware for the fifteenth time.
3.67/68 exploit waiting for EoL is more because the Vita is nearly done and generally you're supposed to save an exploit for EoL anyway.
The issue is the Vita "scene" is founded on attention whoring faggots and most of the "Devs" who give a shit about it only do so because all the shit they're doing has been done before and done better on other hardware.

I didn't have a PSP so I wouldn't know. As of right now you just need a Vita with a firmware version of 3.60 or earlier, soon it will be 3.65 or earlier and you basically just download Henkaku from the Henkaku website and you have it, then install enso Henkaku to make sure its permanently homebrewed. From there if you wanna scurv you just download PKGJ for Vita games or use Adrenaline and transfer ISOs for PSP games.

I've been lazy in updating my guide lately, but mostly it's missing info on how to update a 3.60 system to a 3.65 Enso system, the fact that pkgj superceded pkgi and allows update and DLC downloading, and rePatch which is necessary for game patching on 3.65 and helpful on 3.60.
But yeah it's easy stuff to do if you have a system at 3.60. In future there will be something for later firmware too.

It's nearly retard proof as long as you can read and follow directions. Don't be a moron and skip backing up Vitashell under the idea that
<it won't happen to me
It can and will specifically because the universe knows you didn't do your back up correctly.
The only issue that may arise is if you have a problem that causes you to need to restore the firmware itself not reset to factory settings, format something, etc you will lose the exploit until the newer exploit chain is released.
Unless you're constantly fucking with the internal memory or something similar the chances you'll need to do that are nearly zero.
Most, if not all, highly used plugins have updates for 3.65 compatibility. The one thing you might have issues with is game patching because the setup for that is different from 3.60 however there IS a working patch method for 3.65

You really shouldn't have any Vitamin games at this point because it's been superseded multiple times.
While Mai does work Mai dumps are also obsolete for most people as NoNpDRM has nearly all of the maidumped games with none of the problems.
If you haven't installed NoNpDRM and pkgj that should replace 99% of your vitamin/mai games. If you're using something that only works with mai 3.65 doesn't break it.

But yeah, I think that's become the "punishment" for a game to have an aftermarket: After a certain point, assuming it was ever marked down in the past, the DLC itself never goes on sale again in favor of making those that go for physical having to weigh paying full price on DLC (assuming said DLC is worth it; Muramasa's is good), or just go for the digital "complete" if it goes on sale for cheaper, because the publisher still wants their cut of shekels.

I think it's more just how sales happen. They tend to peak around a year after the initial release and sales after that, including digital, tend to revert to the six months sale price and the rest of it DLC is forgotten.
You can witness the same general thing with PC games, particularly indie titles where they'll generally hit bundles for the equivalent of 1-2$ each.

Pretty sure they've been actively avoiding talking about it for months, asking them on twatter is just going to lead to them continuing to not acknowledge it and probably block the asker so nobody else sees it.
As an aside, apparently SIE has announced they'll continue to "support" the vita through 2020 only in JP/ASIA so recent announcements about them ending physical card production outside of JP was really just another attempt to kill the Vita in the West.
Presumably they think less people will develop for the Vita if they don't see a market outside of JP, as if they believe the Vita flopped due to lack of games or something.

A fair point, but if I remember right it's been years since the Genroku Legends themselves went on sale, in favor of just putting the complete digital into sales instead.
>Pretty sure they've been actively avoiding talking about it for months, asking them on twatter is just going to lead to them continuing to not acknowledge it and probably block the asker so nobody else sees it.
I remember a few weeks or so back an anon posting a link to Pqube's twatter wherein someone had asked if OLZ was still coming and they at least confirmed (although not with an actual date, because the asker provided too much wiggle room). Just thinking maybe someone needs to make note of the game suddenly missing in their roster on the site; if it's in error, maybe they'll fix it, and if not, maybe those looking to order can get some clarification.

Hearts R is fun, but the English script is ass. Bamco not wanting to bring Hearts west in any form until SCEA forced their hand, they don't seem to have kept 8-4 on nearly as short a leash as they had for the prior games. Or perhaps even on a leash anyhow. Whatever the case, that's been the last time 8-4 was hired to handle the series. I really do hope that some one out there picks the game up for retranslation. And Innocence R for that matter. Unfortunately, at the moment there's a little issue in that there's pretty much no active Tales fan-translation fronts left, aside from Kaji apparently continuing to pick at Narikiri Dungeon 2 (or at least having had enough material done in the past to continue to shitpost with).

There's certainly something bigger at play here. I wonder if the UK Govt is giving them a hard time since PQube is based there. There's some fags on twitter crying about "i bet the SJWs did this!" and making themselves out like complete assholes. I don't think SJWs have anything to do with this directly though, certainly not American ones.
That's the most confusing thing to me though. WHAT could've happened/been said that made them slam on the breaks and pull all the orders off sites? The game had already been rated and approved by ESRB and PEGI both, but banned in the UK (and I think Australia too).

Wouldn't surprise me if a game being unable to come out in their own country means they actually stand to get in trouble for even working on it (didn't UK and Ausfailia deem the game as being dangerous towards the consumerbase and potential normalizing of child molestation?). If anything, while I know the US has it's own localization industry issues, I'd say they could stand to have at least a small NA division, if only to give them some leeway when PAL/UK starts throwing a shitfit about something. And really, it shows where the priorities are of both regions: better to crack down on lewd games, rather than anger all those rapefugees making good on the nickname in real life that they've allowed in.
I've said it before, but I can't help but think these strings of bans are meant to force companies that handle "icky" games to toe the line. I mean, it's all well in good that IFI and Pqube have been willing to just cut out parts of the market that refuse to rate their games rather than bow to demands, but if too much of the market gets cut out as a default, it might be deemed just not profitable enough to even bring stuff west, or at least completely intact. Though I suppose the other answer is that, since PAL countries seems to be the primary point of the issue, it might be better to just going back to the days of sixth gen and earlier, where PAL releases of Japanese games were almost afterthoughts compared to NA, and thus them missing out on a lot if unwilling to import/pirate.
0a9613 No.14840485
>>14840464
Another thought: SCEA has in the past thrown its weight around towards games (and ports, in the case of the PSP and their rulings towards it back then) they didn't want in the NA library, resulting in cases like them forcing Agetec to cancel Shadow Tower Abyss back in the day, despite having the game almost entirely translated by that point (the game had to go on to be fan-translated) on grounds of not meeting graphical standards they wanted to push on the PS2 here and, according to them, there being no audience for King's Field style games here at that point. While perhaps not on the same logic for blocking, is there any possibility Sony Europe doesn't want OLZ in the PAL PS4/Vita library, and is all too happy to make the entire English world suffer for it since Pqube is a European based company, even if Pqube hasn't necessarily gotten into legal trouble over the game?

Why are "Button Configurations" on PS4 remote play done on a game by game basis?
While I appreciate that PS2 games can, you know, USE THE FUCKING START AND SELECT BUTTON instead of being dummied out and having to use the touch pad. I legitimately don't understand at all why the fuck l2 r2 l3 r3 are all on the front touch screen with the "touch pad" instead of the front screen being the touchpad and the back being l2/r2 l3/r3.

Whatever the Switch is doing is making Nintendo money. To me, it looks like a Wii U2 with added novelty.
Now, what Sony needs to do is to learn from the huge blunders they did with the Vita and take another shot at handheld gaming. Avoid arbitrary prices on expandable media, don't have stupidly low amounts of VRAM, and actually promote the damned thing. It might even be too late since Nintendo is now leeching into the niche weeb demograph with that Xenoblade Chronicles game.

lmao. Sony doing anything that would give the consumer any more power or ease of use is kind of a joke. They have been doing this kind of shit for decades and I wouldn't expect to see them stop any time soon. They probably just think that the handheld market just doesn't want what they're putting out (which is, in a way technically true but only because they keep promoting AAA garbage).
>don't have stupidly low amounts of VRAM
this is actually something they can accomplish if they decide to come out with another handheld
>and actually promote the damned thing.
They were aiming for a weird fucking demographic when they launched the Vita and then gave up on it really fucking quickly. They're a bunch of limp-wristed faggots. It'd be really easy for them to attract a loyal niche market where they could make the money across numerous titles rather than putting all their eggs in a few small, high-priced baskets (read: AAA games). Their main problem is they were aiming for a demographic that might as well have not existed. Nobody who plays CoD or uncharted or memelands would care enough to play it on a dedicated handheld, they already have superior versions on consoles.
The Nintendo Switch is kind of a weird… thing by comparison. The Vita is clearly intended to be a handheld. The Switch not so much. It can get away with a lot of shit the Vita couldn't, partially because it is a console and right now, the only way to play new and upcoming Nintendo games. Third party support will be gravy, and second party support a la Fire Emblem and Pokemon will bring even more people in.
Nintendo is going to rape the fucking market with this one if Pokemon and the new Fire Emblem are good and do well (its almost a foregone conclusion that this will happen too).
The funny thing about the Vita is that a few devs keep citing that it has some kind of high attachment rate. Sony has to be aware of this and yet they're pushing this ass-retarded narrative that "nobody wants the Vita". Hell if they really wanted to rake in the cash they could just create a localization branch for 3rd party games from Nippon (that's probably too weird of an idea though) or alternatively, do second party shit like Nintendo does.
I guess they don't want the weeb market as much as they'd like to say, even though it'd be really really fucking easy for them to do so.
Now I imagine everyone who would've developed for a handheld, be it from Sony or otherwise will now focus on the Switch, all because of Sony's retardation (and the general lack of competition in the market).

DS had a good amount of third-party but 3DS had barely anything (Stella Glow, Rune Factory 4, Senran Kagura 2, Metal Max 4, …) and the region-lock really prevented any import interest.
Both the PSP & Vita were still far better though when it comes to third-party support and quality, although I obviously say this with a bit of bias because I do have plenty of import nip titles.
Still make me wish the 3rd-party support on Vita would continue, such as Aquaplus re-releasing White Album 1 (since WA2 was present on it for years) and To Heart 2 (although you can have access to the PSP version at least), and a couple of (enhanced) ports of niche nip PS2 titles (things like the first two Disaster Report titles, Grimgrimoire, Akai Ito/Aoi Shiro, Fatal Frame, etc). On the 8th, Sony's releasing a silver slim + 32GB card bundle in Japan for 21,578 JPY, which converts into 200USD/173EUR/150GBP, before any import taxes. At least delivery is free, and Amazon Global shipping is pretty painless, with taxes pre paid.
It's almost guaranteed to be on the newest firmware, but it's probably going to be the best price you can ever find for a new Vita + large card before they stop making the thing altogether.

You can get a Vita 3.61+ in the US for less than $100 a lot of the time because everybody is dumping newer OFWs for muh frei gaymes.
Most of them are near perfect condition in some cases literally the only reason they're "used" is because morons don't understand that JP imports don't have the plastic sticker over the box flap that the US models did because they were likely sold upon being first opened and confirmed to be 3.61+
A new 32GB memory card is around $50-60.
That bundle is a worse deal than nearly anything you could get stateside.
You'd also be supporting Sony, who are all too happy to re-release the Vita without actually supporting it at all.

>You can get a Vita 3.61+ in the US for less than $100 a lot of the time because everybody is dumping newer OFWs for muh frei gaymes
This. Now's the best time to get a Vita for cheap. I'd suggest anything >= 3.65 so you can throw Enso on it once that comes out. If I knew a hack was gonna come for higher FW's a couple months earlier, I would've grabbed a cheap ass 3.65 OFW Vita and waited it out instead of spending 120€ on a 3.60 one.
Also I've been toying with the idea of buying up a couple OFW's now for cheap and then reselling them as CFW's later. They will probably skyrocket in price once the hack is out and people too retarded to hack will pay a pretty penny. And then they realize that they can't get around learning how homebrew works on a Vita anyway.

The better question is why any of the torrent's files have : in them since it's actually forbidden in Windows. Not on Linux but even then using it is a terrible idea since it's used as a path separator in environment variables, and in URLs.
>>14872450
Latest firmware will be breakable, albeit less than 3.65 since it'll be like the old browser exploit.

>The better question is why any of the torrent's files have : in them since it's actually forbidden in Windows
I'm not sure if any of these files have them in their path but that was the cause last time I had the issue, somebody using <title>:<subtitle> in the folder of a torrent and apparently renaming doesn't work. There appears to be some hidden list of symbols that transmission doesn't like on Windows but, as far as I can tell, it doesn't ask for changes and just crashes.
Honestly I should probably just move to some form of Linux since most of the shit I do isn't dependent on Windows anymore which was my previous excuse and it's just becoming a burden.
I managed to get the DDL pretty easily by just waiting it out it took about four hours but I was limited more by the site than my internet connection so, if nothing else, I still got the files before they get removed/vanish in a timehole.
>Latest firmware will be breakable, albeit less than 3.65 since it'll be like the old browser exploit.
That's not really a huge deal tbh. Most people use sleep mode a majority of the time rather than powering down and the Vita has an amazingly power efficient sleep mode.
I also would be surprised if there wasn't some way to import the payload to the offline installer that was used prior to Enso.
The only major issue is it may require fiddling with to be able to load the exploit without a Vita memory card if your primary storage is SD2Vita. Also it would probably fuck with your bubble organization each boot.

Ideally where would you complain for Sony to not pull yet another retard with storage?
96ac68 No.14875716
>>14875527
There are zero places for you to go that would convince Sony to not at least try to retard storage because they do so frequently and throw fits when they fail.
The only reason the PSP's storage seemed less retarded was because they were also selling those cards for digital video devices and trying to compete with the SD card so they licensed the Memory Stick format out to 3rd parties which drove down the cost but not as low as SD cards.

So Nintendo announced the next Pokemon game(s) to come out will be for the Switch. They also appear to be phone tie-in titles or have extra phone capabilities and are not spinoffs like Battle Revolution. Also included is an actual mainline title announced for 2019 on the Switch. https://archive.fo/fDUDU
What makes this different from the past is that ALL mainline Pokemon titles have been portable only.
This is further confirmation that Nintendo is full of dirty lying niggers and they have consolidated their home console and portable lines into a brick of shit because nobody cares about real handhelds anymore.

Not "fits in your pocket" portable (possible but not that practical) but something you can take with you, like a tablet. I haven't used storage redirection with anything but Enso, how well does it work since there's the database rebuilding stuff. Otherwise, as long as there's also an offline entrypoint since I hate depending on something online, it's not a big drama.

>while Switch is bigger than a Vita it isn't actually that much bigger, enough to consider it portable. Not "fits in your pocket" portable (possible but not that practical) but something you can take with you, like a tablet.
I wouldn't really consider the Switch portable, the tablet screen is the same size as the entire Vita.
The Switch also has the two detachable joycons and using those in some form makes it significantly larger/more involved than the Vita.
It's decently lightweight and easy to assemble/disassemble but the amount of detachable parts even in handheld mode, low battery life, and the fact that just the tablet by itself is slightly too big to fit in a pocket I know some people carry around bags but I don't pushes it just outside of something I might have used as a handheld to something that may as well be stuck to the wall with how often it needs to be there charging.
>absolute power has never sold me on a game system. Games and good visual direction do.
Agreed, if console power was able to sell a system by itself the Vita would have been a runaway success since it blew the initial 3DS's specs out of the water.
>how well does it work since there's the database rebuilding stuff
As far as I know it'll reset the live area organization when you mount the SD card.
I'm unsure if it's per memory card or each time you swap cards but it's not like most people will be power cycling enough that it'll be a frequent issue.

I used to post a fair bit in the 3DS threads before deciding to pick up a Vita, and migrating here. Like, if you thought hack talk was dominating here it was much moreso with the 3DS threads. At some point it became easy enough to do and well documented there was no need for a thread about hacking them, and the most popular 3DS games were big enough to get dedicated threads so there was little need for a 3DS general. Even as someone who mostly posts about hack stuff I do occasionally want to talk about the games. Vitan is not just a toy to mindbreak.

I have the physical boxset. I can infer alot of things, but the gamefaqs forum has some people who are at the end game, so they provide some helpful tips. One part I got stuck on was after the caves, you have to fight some flat fish girl, then when you get her health to 0, you have to do the spell option with the pink seal guy to finish her off. This requires you to jerk off your vita, using both front and back touchpads to get the meter to 100%. At least this game uses all of the vita hardware available.

Here's some that I think might appeal to me; I prefer shit like RPGs with a pretty heavy focus on story but I'm open to most genres as long as they're fun, what are anons' opinions on:

no experience with the franchise whatsoever, the cover just looked like it'd be kinda appealing I guess
>Demon Gaze 1/2

>Xblaze Code/Lost
I have no knowledge about what this game even is, I assume its a fightan game?
Any good?
>Blazblue games

It is considered one of the "must-haves" for the Vita so it seems your collection is incomplete. Moreso than Demon Gaze and MeiQ the story is decently good, though rather short.
The postgame is where you'll get most of the challenge as it is difficult and fun.
