I've been playing marathon tetris in puyo puyo tetris for 3DS, which I keep procrastinating on applying the english patch to, just to see what the other modes are besides the obvious ones and it's fun, but I feel there's a sudden steep increase on speed at level 12 or so, before that it feels like a cakewalk and then there are tetriminoes falling left and right, I still manage to finish the marathon consistently but what does the most points?, I'm assuming clearing 4 lines at once (TETRIS) does so but wondering if combos matter.

Tetris has been dead a long time now.

TGM2+ was the last good Tetris game.

Also, Puyo is the superior puzzler.

I'm more interested in their algorithm. It seems that most tetris clones have shitty algorithm while the original tetris games are playable for b2b double/triple and clears.

I've yet to figure out b2b triple t-spins but t-spin doubles clears a level 1 to 15 marathon in under 5-10 minutes.

Never could get into Puyo. I'm okay at chaining, but it just doesn't appeal to me.

TGM2+ is pretty magnificent, though. Videos, despite being impressive even with no prior context, don't really showcase just how limited your movement gets at 20G/instant drop speed. As in, which pieces can be rotated in which ways to get them across imperfections in the stack, and which hard-to-fill setups to avoid making that at first glance seem like the most intuitive thing to create.

gettig triples with a T isn't hard, it's impossible. You'd need an extra column of space to get the right lineup, and that would just negate the line itself

This ties into a thing that some of the later games do, where if you attempt to rotate a piece but there's insufficient space, it will try shifting it in different directions one space, and if it fits, it'll move there. It's actually really cool, and required for the ones with more restrictive movement such as the TGM series.
