Haven't had one in a while

>What're ye buying?

>What're ye playin?

>Why the fuck is Darkwood so creepy

>Will Junji Ito ever work on a horror game after Konami went for the sweet pachinko shekels?

>How do you put the fear of the unknown back into the player without relying on skeletons popping out of the closet

>And where the fuck is that Deep Sea/Cave Diving simulator?

>And where the fuck is that Deep Sea/Cave Diving simulator?

Subnautica?

I was more thinking along the lines of embed related.

I wish subnautica was scary, but there's nothing big or frightening in it,it's fucking empty.

I get scared by the sea monsters some times though.

That's a weird way to spell SOMA.

What are some good scary games where you play as a grill? Other than Silent Hill 3 of course.

1da3f9 No.14745075

>>14745025

A scary game where the enemies are actually dangerous like Marianas trench tier monsters, where they sense light, heat and vibrations from your base, and you need to actually monitor your settings when at home or be fucking hit my some eldritch undersea monsters would be awesome. Then the portions where you have to avoid them while hunting would be great. There'd have to be mechanics to stop you from making a base near the surface though.

9ac392 No.14745079

>>14745052

That's because you double gay

>>14745056

Somas fucking great, but it's not traditional scary,it's not about the underwater,it's about the morals and ethics.

Siren/DreadOut? And, to a lesser extent, Sylvio 1.

1da3f9 No.14745104

>>14745080

That's not the camera game that got fucked by localizers is it?

1700b2 No.14745116

>>14745104

Nah, that was one of the Siren titles where they replaced an unlockable Swimsuit outfit (which actually had a connection to the storyline, rather than being pure fanservice) with the Zero Suit from Metroid, because will nobody think of the children.

1da3f9 No.14745120

>>14745116

Oh okay, good, fucking localizers. Thanks anon!

How about this, the planet you're on has insanely hot daytime sunlight, so much so that during the daylight hours, it's death to be within a couple hundred metres of the surface, you fry. You can't build bases there, they melt. But during night time you can surface and look around. Also means that by default you have to stay a couple hundred metres deep at most times, and when it's night and the sea cools off, it's dark as FUCK around your base - it's already really deep.

1da3f9 No.14745151

>>14745123

That'd work pretty well actually.

1700b2 No.14745161

>>14745075

That actually sounds a bit like an Underwater version fo Darkwood

1700b2 No.14745168

In semi-related news, is the remake they did of Yume Nikki as bad as it seems to be? What little gameplay I saw largely seemed to be a 2d jump'n'run with some 3d sections.

1da3f9 No.14745178

>>14745161

Not what I intended tbh, especially since an underwater game would need to be 3d not topdown isometric style, but the mechanics and fear it induces would be great for an underwater game. Subnautica is way too babbies tier.

Enemies are more annoying than anything, not even scary once you've seen them once

cd3ff8 No.14745942

I find games where you lose money/equipment to be far scarier than any horror game I've ever played. There can not (to me) be horror without risk. Subnautica, Tarkov, X Souls, sometimes roguelikes even (Cata comes to mind) are all good examples.

Now imagine a game like that combined with psychological horror. I think darkwood is the only game to my knowledge that does this, but the atmosphere is so dark (and the days so annoyingly short) that I find myself with no desire to play it despite its obvious high quality.

Are there any other games that do this I'm not aware of?

Has anyone here played Sweet Home? is it to be bothered with or not?

The last horror game I played was The Evil Within 2 it was OK. I've been thinking of playing outcast 2 on Switch only because I bought it on the thing and thought about playing it before I was going to comfy bed.

the NES one? or is there another?

I played it when it came out so it might have changed by now, but back then it was buggy trash and they somehow made the collectathon even less bearable than the original.

the NES one

Figures. God help us if we get anything nice. At least Yume Nikki more or less required you to make your own map if you didn't want to get hopelessly lost.

You're thinking fatal frame as the Siren series doesn't have the camera gimmick.

79f924 No.14746861

>>14746083

oh, i recall it being hard-ish, each character has a skill needed, they can die and i think you can pass that skill to other characters. Also, something about the edning changing depending on how many characters you can keep alive. Also, no way to revive characters, you can just heal em while they are alive

I feel like a good chunk horror games struggle with the annoying versus scary aspect. There needs to be something to keep the player on the edge but not to the point where it becomes a chore.

I think Alien Isolation had this problem. The alien always seemed like a pain in the ass to deal with due to its hovering mechanic bullshit. The working joes were pretty good though.

Started fatal frame 2 for the wii a few days ago but couldnt play yesterday. Played 3 hours of silent hill and am at the hospital right now. Looking forward to nu metro but am not really optimistic.
