I don't remember any threads for it; then again I might've missed it or was not paying any attention.

I've heard very mixed things about Legends of Legacy and was too hesitant to pick it up but people are saying this game fixed a lot of things wrong from it.

I've heard that the lore and story of Legacy is very much conveyed through exploration and drawing conclusions and other shit like that, which is fine but I have to wonder how well that would actually work in a turn-based JRPG. It seems like it would lend itself much better to ARPGs when dialogue and shit like that would be lacking, and especially because of how linear many JRPGs tend to be, minor exploration of "zones" aside.

Are the characters likeable? Is the story and writing worthwhile? Is the combat system fun, and does it avoid grinding? I wanna know, since I (might've) missed out on Legacy and wanna know if this would be worth getting.

Characters look fucking stupid

yep, I just beat it last night and it was alot of fun. I skipped out on the legend of legacy but heard this was much better and gave it a shot, was very solid. I didnt find it grindy at all and the combat was fun. There is quite a bit of exploration.

Legend of Legacy is a horribly designed and grindy mess. This is more of that, with some minor improvements. It's still a poorly designed and grindy mess. Everything about character growth is RNG. Learning skills is RNG. Once you've learned a skill you randomly gain levels for it when using them, and they'll be horribly weak if they aren't high level. You're more likely to gain these stats/skills/levels when fighting something dangerous, but it's certainly not guaranteed. You also have a large cast of characters to grind for, and at various points in the game they split up into smaller groups (even if some of them are stupidly easy, like the bridge one where your main party will just slaughter everything coming at them with ease so the backup group doesn't get a single fight). My tank character had lower HP than most of my other non-neglected characters simply because he wasn't getting those RNG HP gains, even after I spent skill points on the "more likely to gain HP gains" skill. Speaking of skills, some of them are fucking stupid. The scientist loli in the hideous duck robot has skills that make her more likely to learn new moves. All the weapons have these skills except for magic, stuff like "more likely to learn new skills", "even more likely to learn new skills" and "more likely to gain levels for skills when using them". This is where all your skill points will be going for most of the game. Anyway, duck girl has these skills too, except for some fucking reason she can't learn new skills with the mecha. At no point did she ever learn a new skill like this, she just got them from new equipment. Why the fuck does the ability exist?

Anyway, it's grindy as all hell and unless you want to just skip content you have to go through various "water devil" dungeons to unlock new predetermined points to build support stuff in. I thought these were randomly generated for a while, but it turns out they're just extremely boring and generic to the point where you mistake them for being randomly generated. They're just square rooms and short corridors thrown together and all look identical.

The game is just slow and dull in general. The world map is large but very empty. Rarely you'll run into a recolored version of a normal enemy, but they aren't all that hard nor do they give you anything special. They're just kind of there. The only other reason to slowly jog over the world map is to find the gem things that were randomly strewn over the map that you can buy gear. But there's no actual exploration or puzzle solving or anything here, you just jog around, spot a glimmer and walk over to pick it up. Then repeat for hours. Also the combat is overly simplistic; you have your tank guy using a defend skill, healer guy healing or buffing and attack guys using their strongest and highest level attack skills.

well this is awkward.

I'm tempted to go with 4f74ba's opinion because of how in-depth he went into it. While I'd wanna be optimistic about the game, it sounds pretty… bland and disappointing all things considered.

I haven't played the game yet so I don't know if this is accurate or not but the RNG skill levelup sounds like a terrible idea, and after hearing the dungeons being boring and walking from gem to gem makes me want to delete it from my homebrewed 3ds.

Eh. In theory and with the games I have played involving it I don't have too much of a problem with it. I feel it was implemented well in games like Fire Emblem and just makes for refreshing and always-different playthroughs but I don't know how it feels here. It sounds like it might've been done awkwardly.

If you can get through the likes of SaGa Frontier, then Alliance Alive shouldn't be any kind of problem. Bottom line.

You speak of Legend of Legacy, does everything apply to Alliance Alive just as well?

I've not played Saga Frontier

I've only gotten into JRPGs in the last 2-3 years and missed out on a lot of shit that I'm slowly catching up on

Just finished the game and gotta say, I'd enjoyed it. I did enjoy the gameplay but for me to do the new game when I spent a long time gathering a lot of new skills by repeating old skills was getting kinda hard as skills weren't easy to get later in the game. I felt that the game should have left u keep all the items u got cause u spent a long time gathering them. Music was great and I felt relaxed, however, some of the battles don't really have musics and some are a bit too relaxing. Lastly the story was good. While it won't be winning any awards it is a passable way for players to gain a motivation to play the game, this must have been their way of realizing their mistake from Legend of Legacy. I give to game between a 7.8 to an 8.5, a solids JRPG game with some hard to ignore errors but a game that'll be fun.

I really enjoyed it, it felt very Suikoden at points and I think Murayama may have had more of an influence on the team than just writing, but it was incredibly easy; there was only one fight in the entire game that gave me trouble.

>it's grindy as all hell

The only possible way I can see someone having to grind in this game is if they somehow completely ignored formation/stances.
