Legend of Legacy is a horribly designed and grindy mess. This is more of that, with some minor improvements. It's still a poorly designed and grindy mess. Everything about character growth is RNG. Learning skills is RNG. Once you've learned a skill you randomly gain levels for it when using them, and they'll be horribly weak if they aren't high level. You're more likely to gain these stats/skills/levels when fighting something dangerous, but it's certainly not guaranteed. You also have a large cast of characters to grind for, and at various points in the game they split up into smaller groups (even if some of them are stupidly easy, like the bridge one where your main party will just slaughter everything coming at them with ease so the backup group doesn't get a single fight). My tank character had lower HP than most of my other non-neglected characters simply because he wasn't getting those RNG HP gains, even after I spent skill points on the "more likely to gain HP gains" skill. Speaking of skills, some of them are fucking stupid. The scientist loli in the hideous duck robot has skills that make her more likely to learn new moves. All the weapons have these skills except for magic, stuff like "more likely to learn new skills", "even more likely to learn new skills" and "more likely to gain levels for skills when using them". This is where all your skill points will be going for most of the game. Anyway, duck girl has these skills too, except for some fucking reason she can't learn new skills with the mecha. At no point did she ever learn a new skill like this, she just got them from new equipment. Why the fuck does the ability exist?
Anyway, it's grindy as all hell and unless you want to just skip content you have to go through various "water devil" dungeons to unlock new predetermined points to build support stuff in. I thought these were randomly generated for a while, but it turns out they're just extremely boring and generic to the point where you mistake them for being randomly generated. They're just square rooms and short corridors thrown together and all look identical.
The game is just slow and dull in general. The world map is large but very empty. Rarely you'll run into a recolored version of a normal enemy, but they aren't all that hard nor do they give you anything special. They're just kind of there. The only other reason to slowly jog over the world map is to find the gem things that were randomly strewn over the map that you can buy gear. But there's no actual exploration or puzzle solving or anything here, you just jog around, spot a glimmer and walk over to pick it up. Then repeat for hours. Also the combat is overly simplistic; you have your tank guy using a defend skill, healer guy healing or buffing and attack guys using their strongest and highest level attack skills.
