What does /v/ think of this game? It's a RTS that takes neither an ungoldy amount of micro (e.g. AoE2), nor is it casual tier, and getting though the maps is actually a challenge. Even though you'd be pretty much done with the game once you've finished all the SP scenarios unless they release more content. So far I've got up to the snow map.

Had a thread about this a week ago, it's a piece of shit.

on top of that I haven't been following the development, and I don't recommend buying betashit games, but in it's current state it's worth playing.

It was okay when I played it a few months ago, though I know there have been additions since. Mostly needed a greater variety of viable strategies/defensive units/buildings to keep things interesting, I think.

Most annoying thing about it is the awful stilted english from the VAs. Devs are some breed of non-english euro and clearly hired locals to do their voicework. Still worth playing, though.

However the devs decided to include malware to fuck up your game a couple of hours in if you pirate it. There's a pirate patch floating around to fix it, but they'll never get my shekels after that horseshit, even if the game was worth what they're asking (it's maybe a $10 game in the state it was in when I played). And of course

This is the first I'm hearing about this malware shit, what was it?

you committed the crime of speaking about a game younger than 5 years on current /v/ in a non-derogatory manner. therefore, you are a shill.

4523d0 No.14741060

I have over 200 hours in it, the game can be pretty fun. It is more of an economics RTS than a combat RTS. I like the forced ironman aspect, really amps up the tension. Clearing the final wave is rewarding, especially on higher difficulties. I also respect that the devs are focused on SP (the engine can not handle MP).

The problem is that there aren't many viable strategies, so once you win each map a few times, there isn't much incentive to play again. Also, the voiceovers are really annoying.

It is worth pirating in it's current state. They are working on a campaign.

>malware

Disgusting.

587e11 No.14741074

I've got a couple hundred hours in it. Great timesink. Not much in mechanical depth just yet, though last I played was three months ago. If it's been updated properly since I'd like to know. And a campaign would be pretty good fun, so once there's something released there I'll give it a good whirl

>unless they release more content

Why don't they just publicly release their SDK instead?

4523d0 No.14741626

>>14741547

They don't want to deal with mods until full release (to ease bugfixing).

dda9ad No.14742123

solid 5/10 for a neat premise (lots of enemies on screen at once) and bad execution. getting a decent base up and running in time for the first wave is basically an RNG check to see if you got the right resources around you, and once you get snipers the game is effectively over until you start just building crazy shit because you're bored. it needs something to smooth out the boredom and i don't mean "higher difficulty" (as it is it's actually kinda stacked against you in the early phase), i mean something to ease the shitty and unsatisfying balancing act between "i need more laborers to build <thing>, but to support them i need more food, and to build more food production i need wood and stone, and to get more wood and stone i need to expand, which will cost <resource>". it's not a satisfying arc

>It's a RTS that takes neither an ungoldy amount of micro (e.g. AoE2)

Only at the very highest levels of play could you even begin to call AoE2's micro ungodly.

825169 No.14742351

Fuck off shill.

If you want alternative tower defence, get yourself Anomaly Warzone, Orcs Must Die! or Sanctum.

b0fa29 No.14743308

>>14742130

If you want to be competitive at the entry level, you have to be doing like half a dozen things at once. If you ever let your TC stop producing for like 20 seconds, that's enough to make you lose.

486dc1 No.14743877

>>14743308

That's hardly ungodly

That's just basic AoE2, man.

>It's a RTS that takes neither an ungoldy amount of micro (e.g. AoE2), nor is it casual tier, and getting though the maps is actually a challenge.

It's a mod for a real RTS game with poor mechanics.

Not good at all.

So, I'm presuming you too are competitive in the Voobly lobbies (except the beginner's one) and you have less than 100 hours of play time?

486dc1 No.14744007

No, I play casually on the HD version and that's all standard play. It's not difficult to press a hotkey to keep a tc working.

See you and your shitty thread next week

b0fa29 No.14744063

AOE HD is ultra casual. Unless you're competitive in Voobly, you can't claim that your micro is up to scratch.

486dc1 No.14744126

>>14744063

That's my point though, even in an ultra casual environment what you're describing isn't anywhere close to ungodly micro.

b0fa29 No.14744177

>>14744126

AoEII is micro intensive because things like strategy of tactics is irrelevant until you have achieved a high level of micro proficiency. Until you get to like a 2K rating in HD, the game will almost always be decided by who has the best micro skills. It doesn't matter if you're a strategic genius, you won't win when your economy is 5 minutes behind your opponent and every time they attack you your economy is crippled because you can't manage both things at once.

486dc1 No.14744239

>>14744177

Pretty sure you're describing macro, not micro

b0fa29 No.14744257

>>14744239

No, I'm talking about micro. As in your ability to do multiple things at once and control multiple units. Macro skills aren't important until a high level, because on common maps like arabia, there is already a "best" build order. You don't need to understand the map or the reasoning behind your strategy, all you need to do is have the micro skills to execute a build order perfectly and start spamming scouts and you will win against 90% of players.
