The earlier Fire Emblem games do this well. I know for sure in FE4 your rag-tag team of only about 12 is faced against HORDES of enemies and holy fucking shit the reinforcements. Your only hope of survival is to grind the arena.

Some of the Alien Shooter styled games are more about getting through the waves of enemies instead of killing off every enemy in the level, some are objective based, some have infinitely spawning mobs and others are purely wave based.

I tried Solstice Chronicles: MIA (from creators of The Red Solstice) yesterday. It's an unfinished and unpolished mess of a game, but it may be what you're looking for.

>save on your only save so its either try to win or restart the entire game over again.

>reload the save multiple times and use the split second you have to block the incoming attack and either get to safety or hit the boss and finally free yourself from the infinite death.

when you finally beat him the sense of accomplishment is amazing.

You play single player games or team based games with shitters? Because single player games are designed to look like its hard but its winnable anyway. While in multiplayer game it might feel like its impossible because it is might be impossible.

gayday2, its loaded up with DLC and its pozzed but you can get the dlc for free. (if you dont care about being labeled a cheater). its got a feeling of you vs the feds and the feds dont stop fighting so its pretty fun if you like shmups or survival wave games.
