I haven't seen a thread about this game in a long time. You play as a rainslug and your goal is not to be eaten. It's a very enjoyable game and quite difficult.

I like the game OP, but are you underageb& or is english not your native tongue? Anyway the game's main appeal, by far, is the creatires. I'm afraid to post the gifs/webms I have since discovering the new ones and hiw they act is a huge part of the game.

Other than that, the game itself is just alright. I like that there's several mechanics that you have to discover, but the main gameplay is a bit touchy. I found that using a dpad was best for most situations since you need reproducibility, but the stick was the best thing for swimming, especially you know where.

I found the game better to fuck around with the ecosystem and creatures rather than actually advancing.

a6cdc8 No.14718306

to me it was just another tedious and boring indie game that left me feeling unfulfilled, unsatisfied, and unrewarded. it left me feeling so empty and dry for a game so rainy and full of shit.

Can you provide a link somewhere?

That second image looks great, but the third one really got me curious about this thing.

There's a mode specifically for that

I don't disagree, but that's tangential to THE main appeal, to me, which is that it's a survival game where you survive by learning to survive instead of relying on gathering resources or crafting or some kind of statistical abstraction. There's a little of that with the hunger and karma mechanics but for the most part you survive just by observing your surroundings and making intelligent decisions.

Fair enough, but the creatures with their overly fluid animations and the general focus on DAYUM NAYCHA YOU SCARY was really nice. The simulated ecosystem and the creatures having some memory of you between cycles was neat. The scavenger AI was a crapshoot and trying to get past the checkpoints without them aggroing was extremely annoying, just killing the lot was roughly the same level of frustration.

>The scavenger AI was a crapshoot and trying to get past the checkpoints without them aggroing was extremely annoying

I felt the same way at first, but once you understand the AI it's pretty straightforward and consistent. They're programmed to associate certain things as hostile or passive behavior, and it's more obvious when you encounter them outside of the checkpoints. Standing upright is hostile while laying flat on the ground is passive, carrying a weapon is hostile while being unarmed is passive, facing directly towards them is hostile while looking the other way is passive, etc. To get past the checkpoints (once you've paid the appropriate number of pearls to pass the toll) you just need to walk on all fours, they'll step over you if you nudge up against them. If the developer blogposts are to be believed, every individual scavenger has their own opinion of you, and that opinion isn't just affected by your behavior, it's affected by what the other scavengers think of you as well, with the chieftain's opinion counting for more than anyone else's, so if you're going to give them pearls you should give them to the chieftain while the whole tribe is watching.

It's kind of a shame that a lot of the friendly AI behavior is locked behind donating x amount of a certain item until that creature likes you, like feeding gnats to the squidcadas or giving pearls to the scavengers, but there's always a little more to it than it first seems and the scavengers are a great example. Carrying a weapon and running around like a maniac when you encounter a pack of scavengers would normally freak them out and might get you killed, but they're much more understanding if there's a predator in the area, and if you help them fend off or kill that predator it will improve your reputation with that group of scavengers. I wish I had a screenshot of it around but any time I returned to the Garbage Wastes or the Industrial Complex the whole tribe of scavengers would be anxiously waiting my return by the entrance, because we'd spent so much time hunting together.

After running around for four hours without feeling like I had achieved anything or had any goal I dropped it.

my experience with it, as well. went with Hollow Knight instead and wasn't as disappointed

rain*slug*? I was lead to believe he was a fluffy little ferret.

That game has beautiful animation by the way, it's so sad that this game shows what will be the fate of Baltimore in 30 years.

>I was lead to believe he was a fluffy little ferret.

For a long time I saw slugcat and Ori as interchangeable because I wasn't following the games very closely, although I think Rain World was announced first.

>That game has beautiful animation by the way

Kind of a stretch to say it has animation at all, to me, it seems like the fauna just sort of flop around as dictated by the Unity physics. It gives them a very nice organic look but I don't know how much effort it really took, programming their behavior was probably the harder part in making them move in believable ways.

Most of the people here seem to love it or hate it. Personally, I think it's one of the best games to come out last year.

I arrived to 5 pebbles and dropped shortly after. Kinda disliked it. And the ending is really weird.

>Standing upright is hostile while laying flat on the ground is passive, carrying a weapon is hostile while being unarmed is passive

Problem wqs when I was doing that and they'd judt not take the fucking pearl or would take it and still aggro when I got to the checkpoint, and that's if they didn't sperg out on me from offscreen as I approached. Huge pain in the ass.

>any time I returned to the Garbage Wastes or the Industrial Complex the whole tribe of scavengers would be anxiously waiting my return by the entrance, because we'd spent so much time hunting together.

Cute.

>>14720138

Didn't the promotion call him slugcat even? He looks slimey even.

>>14718539

Understandable, I would say that reaching the goal is less interesting than seeing the fuana and learning to survive though.

>Problem wqs when I was doing that and they'd judt not take the fucking pearl or would take it and still aggro when I got to the checkpoint

Were you tossing the pearl to them or just dropping it? I think I've played the game four times now and never had a problem with this past the first encounter, outside of the Hunter mode anyway. They're a lot touchier on that difficulty, but even then they operate by the same rules. You'll know it's safe to cross the toll when their fur stops bristling and they don't look bug-eyed anymore, if they're very cool they'll even drop their weapons to show goodwill. Most of the time you need two pearls to guarantee passage, unless you give them a colored one.

>>14718539

>After running around for four hours

Statistically most people didn't even get that far, it's not for everyone.
