The last CRT thread >>14661992 is dead, so let's have another one.

Do you prefer flat or curved CRTs?

You guys rocking any cool computer monitors?

What are PVM bros chilling with right now?

Now for my stupid questions:

I'm about to move soon and I might finally have the space to have all my shit hooked up after not having that ability for a year or two, and I'm going to get a new CRT. If it's possible, I want to get a new HDCRT for my 7th gen vidya (old one died) and a new regular one for everything else. Are there any HDCRTs that don't have lots of input lag? Mostly talking for modern games here. Are there any consumer grade CRT TVs that can do 480p?

I've noticed that CRTs are very easy to focus on since they create a flat image. Great for mitigating eye strain. LCDs have a differing plane of focus depending on whether the pixel is bright or dark which makes things look weird and fuzzy as fuck. Makes my eyes bleed.

Projectors are also easy to focus on.

>Are there any HDCRTs that don't have lots of input lag?

if you're going with a source that can directly do 720p/1080i like a 7th gen console, you'll be in a decent spot. Best you can get in English speaking countries is a Sony KV34XBR960. The 970 variant has a similar looking chassis but a worse tube, the 960 has Sony's super fine pitch trinitron.

This is a good set with minimal input delay as measured by RGBrob from Australia. It's also fairly common as it was positioned in the market as the last super high end consumer CRT. There are other HD CRTs that are a lot more uncommon from the 90s and early to mid 2000's which are extremely sought after presentation monitors like NEC XM series, Mitubishi Megaview series, and even a few Asia only Sony Trinitrons that could accept RGBHV and component HD sources without additional processing. Not a very easy find being from Asia. Otherwise your only other choices for input lag free HD CRTs are either PC monitors with an adapter for component/hdmi to VGA or a multiformat monitor like what may be my favorite the JVC DT-V1710/Ikegami HTM-1700r/Panasonic BT-H 1700p.

The push for LCD monitors is one of the jew. LCDs can be easily assembled for next to nothing by chink slaves and sold for a 2000% mark up. LCDs are an inherently flawed technology created as a stop gap for better technology, but we will forever be stuck with LCDs holding us back because of the (((profit))).

I have always been skeptical of CRT, after all you can emulate the games and there is shit to make it look all right

but cleaning out my garage I had a huge ass crt lying around and a ton of original hardware I figured I might as well set it up right?

the first thing I noticed is sitting around bullshitting about games with your buddy, playing splitscreen ect is like hundreds of times easier on original hardware, and since its a tv I put it in an open area instead of at my computer desk, which helped once again with the above

so for that reason alone I am now in the original hardware camp instead of the emulation camp

I don't really know what you mean by that, I personally owned a Diamond Pro 2060u and could handle that resolution fine over VGA. Only problem is that UI's get kind of small on that resolution, so I didn't use it that much. I mostly owned it so that I could play Quake 3 at 160hz 800x600, only very recently do we have higher than 120hz LCD'ds that you can actually buy (and for a lot more than the $200 that I paid for my CRT). Unfortunately it broke in shipping a couple years ago.

cc0b05 No.14714591

>>14714586

By that I mean that one of the reason it can't go even higher than that is because VGA simply can't handle that.

c291ca No.14714608

>>14714591

I see, that would make sense and it's kind of a shame that we didn't see CRT's that can take advantage of modern interfaces.. I think it would be great to see how CRT's could have advanced today, we would have 120hz as a standard for everyone and resolutions would in general be higher. But instead the only new CRT's that get made are from old Chinese factories that only push out ones that can do 1024x768 and have mediocre specs.

Most of the image deterioration in small color CRTs is due to the dot pitch being too large to properly render the image.
