f3a040 No.14702348

Best way that I can sum it up is that it's an arcade third-person shooter with lock-on and an emphasis on dodging, but it also feels like there's more to it than that, and describing it that way feels like doesn't do the game justice. I also love the game's visual aesthetic, especially with that "sharp" look that it seems like only exist in games up the the sixth console generation and the art styles has disappeared from everything since. The technobeat music is also nice, but so far i prefer the more "mellow" starting tracks. Also, I'm still very much in the beginning and just "grinding" to improve my skill as well as gain currency.

Has anyone else played this game?

1860e5 No.14702398

It's a huge disappointment, that's what it is.

>Have to crouch to forward dodge.

>Ending tries to be meta but fails.

The only thing good about it is the gyrating and it was one of the largest warning flags about Capcom.

4621cb No.14702481

Kinda shit, actually. Aside from the sexy animations, the emphasis on getting style points/combos kinda makes this feel like a boring on-rails shooter. Boring because the environments are so bland, it hurts.

a17de8 No.14702524

One of my favorite games of that gen. Love the aesthetics and sound. But you have to get the hang of it, treat it like a sort of dance game, you move precisely as the game expects you to.

I like it quite a bit!

48296b No.14702536

Know what this game is? It's yet another hastily patched together release that didn't get enough time to fully blossom into something worth playing that was created for the sake of completing Capcom's contract with Nitnendo. As it is, it's merely mediocre, and it's sad because this game had potential to be something great.

This is one of those times where a sequel could've fixed some of the issues with the first game, but that shit'll never happen.

From what I've seen of the Aeon Flux game, it's not very similar to P.N. 03 (Let alone the AF movie). Though, I wonder how similar it is to the original Heavy Metal concept.

People expect a fish to fly and think it's a shitty game

Product Number 3 is a game that the director shinji mikami purposedly limits your movement speed in order to create a balanced gameplay experience that consigns with the level design and enemy design. Don't compare it to other games, see it for what it is.

It's a fun game and made with quality. Short and Sweet. Definitely something people should have on their backlogs. Easy to emulate too.

>What is this game?

Trash

>How do you describe it?

Shit

I remember back when Capcuck announced this game, and soon afterwards when it came out everyone shat on it. I figured they had to over-exaggerating as the game looked like it might be a short sweet arcade style shooter, but after playing last year, yeah it's not good. You do not make a shooter game, no matter how "rhythmic", with stiff limited controls and in narrow, copy pasted grey white corridors only to shoot down the same generic robot enemies. It's so aggressively subpar and mediocre in the worst way, in that it's not even so bad you laugh at it or remember how ungodly shit it is; it's just really forgettable, boring, and frustrating to where you hate that you wasted time playing PN03.

>>14702524

You all need to play more shooters and take the nostalgia dick out of your asses. PN03 fucking blows.

>balanced gameplay experience that consigns with the level design and enemy design

You're right, broken controls in reused bland environments really go together well.

>Don't compare it to other games

Typical millennial faggot participation trophy thinking here, kill yourself please. The game is a shit shooter even on its own terms.

>made with quality

Its tiny budget wasted on polygonal shaking asses really shows that.

>Definitely something people should have on their backlogs

Capcom was legally obligated to make games for the GameCube. That console sold like shit so they weren't going to put in much effort.

Incidentally this was one of the few GameCube games that wasn't ported to PS2. No loss.

The PS2 port of ToS came out a year after the GC version, and it was remastered and bundled with it's sequel for the PS3 release.

I think he's still referring to P.N. 03.

This is the most homosexual post in the entire thread, congratulations.

The game is not a third person shooter, it's a Time crisis third person with spot dodges

You're comparing apples to oranges and unable to grasp the limitations of the games

By your logic Mario 64 is shit because you don't have guns and swords on it.

Funnily enough the only millennial is you, who lacks the perception to judge the game correctly. You're a two digit IQ retard if you don't know the difference in genres and what standards should apply where and when

The meta of this game is dodging, not damaging enemies. It's a Dance, the enemy's HP bar is just how long the dance lasts.

I'm not saying this game is a must play right now, but it's short and worth a playthrough.

>You're a two digit IQ retard if you don't know the difference in genres and what standards should apply where and when

Except I do, Capcuck

>You do not make a shooter game, no matter how "rhythmic", with stiff limited controls and in narrow, copy pasted grey white corridors only to shoot down the same generic robot enemies.

The game needed better controls first and foremost, and the bland environments didn't help.

>By your logic Mario 64 is shit because you don't have guns and swords on it.

No, if Mario 64 had shit controls, it would be shit. Which pn03 has.

>Funnily enough the only millennial is you, who lacks the perception to judge the game correctly.

>judging a game by how well it plays

>not correct

You sound like a faggot who was given this game when you were 8 and forced yourself to enjoy it since you had nothing else to play. It's objectively mediocre.

>The meta of this game is dodging,

And it's meta that's shat by bad controls and poorly designed cramped levels.

>worth a playthrough.

If for knowing how not to design a shoot dodging game, yes.

>The game needed better controls first and foremost, and the bland environments didn't help.

<IGNcube: There seems to be a split of people who enjoy the control setup in the game and those who don't. Why did you decide to go with this type of configuration for PN03?

<Hiroyuki Koboyashi: It's not a simple button mashing game. You have to think, strategize and time the enemy patterns before attacking. It's a shooting game where you have to dance like a butterfly and strike with a vengeance.

https://archive.fo/2ALCU

>No, if Mario 64 had shit controls, it would be shit. Which pn03 has.

The only thing that's "shit" about the controls is the camera, and I've only encountered one room where it is a problem

>You sound like a faggot who was given this game when you were 8 and forced yourself to enjoy it since you had nothing else to play. It's objectively mediocre.

I actually found it to be quite arcade-like in it's gameplay.

>And it's meta that's shat by bad controls and poorly designed cramped levels.

You do realize the lock-on and sounds alert you to where enemies are when they're going to attack, if you don't see them. And, there is the "Save my ass" mechanics called the "energy drive", which can knock out 2-4 enemies upon execution.

>If for knowing how not to design a shoot dodging game, yes.

That's because you don't know how to dance.

Ever played Mercenaries mode in Resident Evil 4 or later? P.N.03 is where that came from.

Hell, Krauser's music in RE4 mercenaries is lifted straight from PN03

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaBiqa5feTY

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Km878PsCEg

Game was only made in SIX MONTHS, so it's got plenty of shortcomings (can't move and shoot, just like in RE4 mercenaries). The game is really a high score shooter game where you get more points for comboing several kills in a row, before a timer runs out between kills. The game looks really cool, but the gameplay is kind of stiff since you can't move while shooting.

The successor to PN03's combat is Vanquish, lots of "don't get hit, continue combo kills, get high score" themes. But the successor to PN03's character is Bayonetta, where the character seemingly dances around while not just destroying the enemy, but also humiliates the enemy in the process.

Here's a bunch of gifs of the animations of the character at https://www.mediafire.com/folder/ueh6j8oak7ojd/GIFS#n9wt5o5eqybnz

I'll be posting some of my favorites

Loved the game, but the character design and level design leave so much more to be desired by many people that it is just a let down to them.

Deepest fucking lore. I love it when you can easily see where the inspiration has come from.

It's the same with Zone of the Enders 2 and MGS4. Jehuty has an enemy ring around it to show you how close enemies and projectiles are, and Snake has the same enemy ring around him when he sneaks around. Inventing mechanics and reusing them; this is the fucking essence of perfecting your games.
