We haven't had one of these in a while so I think it's time for a Pixel Art thread.

This time let's mix it up and try to restrict ourselves to pixel art from actual games, at least for the first 100 posts or so.

Mock ups of fake video games allowed too, I suppose.

I don't mind them, but there's never much talk in these other than "indie pixelart is shit!" and then mostly just image dumps.

I'd be more interested in somebody with the ability to break down pixelart from old games and how it evolved or devolved.

It gets a little boring looking at the same images over and over even if there's been a gap of time between.

I've found that they often develop nicely into discussion once these threads get going. It just usually takes 50 to 75 post deep for this to happen.

Artist used whatever tools available to make something look good. Very often some of the best old pixel art was hand painted images and animations scanned into Deluxe Paint II or Corel Draw then touched up in the software. This idea that these sprites were all drawn and rendered in the native software is a naive assumption. This is not to say that nothing was hand drawn but just to note a matter of fact.
