U.N. GUIDE TO FARMING FOR NIGGERS
>How do I get started?
You need seeds (from foraging or other players), some plants don't have seeds as they are the seed itself (ie. beans).
You need a ho to make her do the work for you hoe to till the ground, crafted at the workbench. You need* the farming skill, this is unlocked from research. There's going to be a farming skill book somewhere, ask online players. Right clicking the skill book gives you a scroll, right clicking the scroll unlocks the skill. Once the skill is unlocked, put points into it.
To plant, use the hoe on a tile, then click on it with the seeds in your hand.
*You don't actually need the skill to plant, it makes life a bit easier but you can farm without having any farming skills

It takes 10-20 real time hours for plants to grow, depending on plant and server settings

You need to, at the very least, use the map overlays to decide where to plant. I prefer the web interface, but you can do the same thing ingame:
- go to http://35.196.102.104:3001/causeeffect.html
- choose Plant > [plant name] Yield Potential
- see where the high yield zones are, what plants can be grown near where you live
- only plant in areas where the yield potential is bright yellow
- keep in mind that the web interface displays the maps with a time factor (bottom of the page), slide it to the end to get the current data

You'll want to use a tool called Soil Sampler. This is unlocked for crafting once you get skills into Fertilization (which again requires a research), but you can get one from other players, again, ask in the chat. You don't need any skills to use the device.
Pic related, the sampler will give you all the info you need about where the best planting locations are and how the overall conditions are for the plant you're trying to grow. Combined with the map overlays, you can find 90%+ ideal conditions.
<But wait, there's more
>Crowding
Plant data is consolidated into 5x5 chunks (visualize chunks with the property claim flags). If you have under 90% conditions for the plant, the 5x5 chunk should not be filled with plants on each tile, you need to leave extra space for ideal growth. This includes all plants, remove trees, remove grass.
If the conditions for the plant are below 60-70%, it's not really worth planting there, look for a better zone.

And finally, the soil is constantly changing, monitor the changes and move zones or terraform as needed.

You gain skill points over time based on your nutrition and housing quality. So unless an older player never bothers to build a house or eats shitty forage they will have more total points than a newer player. But you can choose where to spend your points and newer player can choose to spend them on a profession we need. The cost to take new specializations increases exponentially so an older player would either need to spend more to use newly researched skills or need to unlearn something, which only returns part of the points you spent. And it's not like Wurm where a new miner will only produce useless 1ql ore, the skills associated with raw materials only provide a 2x yield bonus and decreased food consumption when maxed and they aren't even worth the points to specialize anyway.

Have you actually tried driving a powered cart or are you still a wagoncuck? They definitely need 4 tiles. If it's 2 tiles with ditches on the sides you risk falling off and needing to place a stockpile to unload and reload the cart after picking it up and replacing it. If it's 2 tiles with walls on the sides you risk getting launched into space and having to do the same thing but on the other side of the map or in the ocean. And the turning radius is huge.

I just ran the calculations, at max efficiency in both industry and electronics I still need 46 or so circuits just to make the lasers and computer lab.
Every laser needs 6000W of power, a windmill provides 700 and an advanced combustione engine provides 1.5k and they are like 2-3 circuits each plus valves, servos, pistons, and gearboxes for the advanced engine.
Tl;DR I think 200 plastic at max efficiency should pull through but I need valves pistons and gearboxes qeued at my benches. in a set of like two dozen a piece
