Must be a sad life being obsessed with something you hate and that doesn't have any actual influence on your life. For example I hate bronies, I think they are gullible idiots who fell for a /b/tard old shitpost campaign and genuinely believed there was this massive community of adults who loved a children cartoon and were all about friendship and shit. You know when was the last time I went to a site/board/thread/subreddit of theirs? Never, because even though I despise them their antics don't affect me in the least so I don't waste my time going there and saying how much I hate them. Though that's only against modern consoles though since older consoles with a few exceptions are just as easy to mod/hack/pirate on too. Even then piracy on the PS4 and Switch is progressing nicely. The corporate shill piece in the OP is one of the pieces designed to craft a narrative to push this kind of thing. I wonder what kind of influence they are exerting over him, or is it just a secondary result of propaganda. Digital will not give you any advantage other than short term convenience which is what half the article is talking about (basically a FUCK YOU to archiving); but it's only convenient until it stops being convenient. Big publishers/corporations never pass their savings on to the customer, so there's no point in hoping for cheaper games, which is what we should have had from the begining. Steam is abysmal for archiving and introduced gamification into games as standard (for PC) which is just cancer. Digital, at most, is to be used in addition to retail (without physical copies forcing you to log into the DRM platform); or it can be used for small game devs who can't afford to publish their games.

Yeah time is definitely on our side. No matter how stunted or delayed cracking consoles or whatever 'piracy killer' DRM progress will be made. In the long term pirates win even if the pace might be slow on certain systems and consoles. Another factor in our favor is that the back catalog of previous and current games is already huge and there are already more than enough games to last any anon's backlog multiple lifetimes over. So even in the worst case scenario where the industry develops a perfect DRM system that prevents piracy and modding we would already have more games that we could ever play.

If their marketing team/the economy, decides $60 is reasonable, and they can become more efficient while having a $60 price point, then why would they remain static in quality and capacity(reducing price) instead of competing on the market with other corporations?

They can increase quality, innovate, and surprisingly maintain a $60 product despite inflation.

It's not gonna work for standard consoles. It works for steam because you use the PC for other things and it works for handhelds because of the added convenience. However with standard consoles too many people buy physical copies in order to go fully digital. There's the concept of sharing games which is extremely valued, especially because that's what basically saved the PS4. Hell Sony was gonna do the same thing as MS, until they saw that going fully online killed the platform. If anything Sony should move to flash memory for physical games rather than not having the option at all. I do see digital being the majority, but physical games have too much of a need to just disappear. Besides even with micro SD Cards the Switch is having storage issues.

>the inflation meme

There are too many fucking factors to consider when talking about pricing. Inflation is one of them, but there are a lot of other issues to consider; since this is just going to be a rant about how bullshit "muh inflation" is as an argument, let's stick with that.

Inflation has a different effect on different groups, specifically different classes of people. Ever since 2008, the average wages for lower/middle-class Americans has stagnated or gone DOWN. Combine this with the march of inflation, regardless of how steady it is, and you can see that the bulk of people in this diseased shithole beautiful country have, for the last decade, been making the same relative amount of money or LESS than they were before. On the other hand, the upper class and the (((1%))) have had their average wages fucking skyrocket, with many CEOs making millions or more; in fact, as everyone should know by now, the majority of the country's wealth and really the world at large is concentrated in the hands of a select few people.

Inflation affects people differently based on various factors. If everything costs more, a $60 price tag is a relatively reasonable price tag for someone who was at least making due, but somebody who was already struggling to get by is not going to fork over the money for some piece of bullshit software that's not even likely to be any good, ESPECIALLY if there are start-up costs involved; don't forget that console games require a console to play, and Microsoft fully expects you to enthusiastically part with $400-500 of your potentially nonexistent, potentially non-disposable income for shitty entertainment that might spy on you and lock you out if you aren't connected to the internet.

Inflation is a fucking meme when it comes to pricing video games because the reality that too many analysts conveniently forget is that lower-class and middle-class wage slaves have been struggling to get by for at least a decade, and they generally aren't able to afford entertainment when they can already barely afford to pay rent or put food on the table. Too many big companies try to justify raising costs by citing inflation, unnecessary development costs like celebrity voice acting and motion capture, and advertisement budgeting going through the roof. They can barely even develop a working product, and they expect me to believe they understand the dynamics of economics and my paycheck in 2018 despite walking away with hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars a year in salary and compensation?

Bullshit.

Yes, a businessman will diversify his business in short sighted pursuit, losing focus on what the core product was. Eventually resulting in long term degredation of the business.

>If their marketing team/the economy, decides $60 is reasonable

>Marketing team

everything wrong with modern corporations. Instead of people knowing their own product making decisions, you have these bozos who look at market trends and copy others. There is no real set price to a game; $60 is only done because everyone else does it in order to maximise profit, not because it's "reasonable".

>they can become more efficient

more efficient at profit

>then why would they remain static in quality and capacity(reducing price) instead of competing on the market with other corporations?

undercutting the competition is a form of "competing on the market", is it not?

>They can increase quality, innovate, and surprisingly maintain a $60 product despite inflation.

"They" is referring to the developers who have zero say in these business decisions. "inflation" is a misinterpretation; whilst the quantity of money has gone up, the quality of everything that you can get at an equivalent price has gone drastically down, quality of life and wealth of the average person is significantly lower than people from the 1980s, why would you say that consumers are greedy for demanding standards?

They're only different until the console is patched with CFW and can play pirated games. On the PC, digital is at least somewhat mitigated by the fact that you can downloaded fixed copies of games which don't connect to the official servers and don't receive mandatory patches.

On console, once disks are gone, you're fucked. You either leave what you have installed at all times and stay offline (until online is mandatory), or you accept the "update".

>I'm pretty sure anything with an HDD can have it replaced.

You can't update/replace the HDD in the Xbox One. If it fails, the console is garbage. There's supposed to be some workarounds, but it's backwards as fuck and you risk nopeing your account and all your data if Microsoft finds out. The only way MS intends for you to update your storage is to plug in external HDDs, which take up a USB port.

The PS4 only somewhat recently (last year) got the ability to use external HDDs, and it has even fewer USB ports to spare, because the average Sony customer is too fucking retarded to just remove a pop-off cover, undo a screw, pop a new HDD on the bracket, and slide it in.

To be fair, there are a few other steps involving data transfer and how you have to load the new OS onto the drive that makes it - while by no stretch of the imagination - difficult, makes it needlessly cumbersome. They'd have been much better off to just sell an over-priced HDD cradle that plugs in via USB and have all the software already built into the PS4 to download the OS, format the drive, transfer all the data over, and whatever other prep-work needs to be done. Then the user could literally just pop the old one out, and then toss the new one in. They could even use the cradle afterwards to plug in the old HDD and use that for a bit of external storage if they wished.

So, just retards all around I guess.

The PS2 has been out of production for more than 5 years at this point, with the last game for the platform releasing 4 years ago. No money spent will end up in Sony's hands as a result and thus there is zero reason to signal your virtue over something like this, unless you're one of those retards that fault a company's entire past for recent events.

Steam is and always has been part of the cancer killing gaming. Whether you're being ironic or not, kill yourself. The only good thing to come out of it is the comments section for individual games so people know if a game is shit, and we've had public forums for that since the decline of Usenet.

I think people want DRM free digital downloads, not DRM always online Xbox One shit. That's what I want when I think digital downloads, and thank fuck we have GOG giving that to us. Also makes modding games a hell of a lot easier and more convenient without shitty DRM or being reliant on a client like Steam if you need to reinstall a game for some reason.

The only big thing I hate is when a game or series gets remastered or remade, and the original versions of the games are locked behind a paywall for the more recent rendition of the game that costs more than the original would if it were a standalone purchase. That's really shitty and will just lead to people pirating the fuck out of those games for not giving us the purchase options we want, ala Beamdog and their stupid shit with those old D&D RPGs, or Gearbox with the Homeworld games. Beamdog and Gearbox can go get fucked.

b5a6fc No.14704453

Actually I wouldn't mind.

Official copies has set price at above 60$. This generally sets a game cost at 60$ and keeps it this way.

Steam without much bother about physical copies sees game price rapidly dropping even a month after release. It is not that weird to see month old game at -50% during some sale. It is a rule you will eventually be able to buy everything from any bundle for pennies. Meanwhile PS3 games, unless abundant still maintain at least 50% of their price because they are physical items.

And yes bundles are already happening for consoles (don't actually buy from IGNs Humble Bundle.):

https://www.humblebundle.com/games/capcom-sega-psn?hmb_source=navbar&hmb_medium=product_tile&hmb_campaign=tile_index_1

They would take it even further and berate you if you aren't also willing to take the assfuck with them.

I went as far as manually installing a bittorrent client, giving them a go-to list of good torrent search engines/sites with priorities and instructions attached, and a guide on how to spot and avoid obviously suspicious torrents. I hand wrote and compiled everything myself and personally installed the clients on each of their machines and all but 1 ended up dropping it within a few weeks and returning to steam like the good goys that they were, because it was more convienent that way and just werks. Serves me right for believing normalfags could be redeemed.

Not only did Labo outsell GoW in Nipland, it outsold it 2:1. So something good did come out of Nintendo Cardboard.

I saw someone build the robot kit. It took them 8 hours to assemble it. The game itself lasted about 5 minutes.

What a fucking scam.

The only real fun to be had with Labo is making your own things, like that one guy who made Game and Watch Ball with it. Vid related. But the included games all look like absolute dogshit.

Domestic sales don't mean shit with these worldwide releases Goy of War apparently topped Britbongistan charts and Sony shilled this accordingly.

Don't know about other regions and this series thankfully never appealed to the Japanese.

Not surprising, Europoors love Sony for some reason. Nintendo was never popular there.

American sales would be interesting, shame they're not tracked.

Atari and Nintendo never marketed themselves over in Europe before or after the crash.

People stuck around hokme computers until Sega made a push there with the Genesis Mega Drive, the only Nintendo handhelds are popular in Europe and even then the DS and Vita just died off.

Sega was replaced with Sony when they also made a big push in Europe and the Saturn was barely advertised outside Japan.

Most people here who played vidya at the time don't even know what a Saturn is, that's how badly Sega fucked up.

Buth yeah, Europe ia dominated by Sony and PC and neither Nintendo or Xbox have been able to dent that.

At least here locally in Slavland, the 360 did better because the PS3 at the time cost around two months worth of salary if not more. The PS4 bounced right back, though.

>speculation

It's supply and demand, simple as that lmao. The only 'speculating' going on is with very rare games with less than 1000 copies.
