Would you add anything, tweak some mechanics, fix some bugs? Explain and discuss how you would go about making your favorite game even better.
Here's mine:
Banjo Kazooie, aside from obvious graphical and texture improvements-
>Slim down collectibles required to beat the game
>Skipable dialogue/cutscenes
>Levels can be reset/replayed to find optimal speedrunning routes
>Fix the backtracking needed from Gobi's Valley and Freezeezy Peak so every level can be 100%'d in one go
>Fix Click Clock Wood
>Slightly increase Banjo's walk speed so the talon trot isn't overused
>Add more exploits/speedrunning mechanics
>Better control for the flying mechanics
>Add more banter from Gruntilda while you walk around her lair
>Add more gameplay options/modes like having to find a specific jiggy and being switched to another world to repeat the process, has optional timer
>Add puzzle rooms/challenge rooms/mode where you have to use specific moves or methods to progress
>Note faggotry from XBLA version is optional
>Multiplayer for main game, mini-games, Furnace Fun, challenge rooms, etc.
And if it's at all possible-
>Add Banjo-Tooie into the package
>Fix that game as well
>Make Stop N' Swap a reality
Feel free to add or discuss your own ideas.

>>14682432
I would say the game segments or transitions could be better, like some sort of warning that you're going to change characters or move on to a different part of the story. The pacing towards the end of game didn't match the rest of it either in my opinion, it felt much shorter than it should've been. More attack options for Boney or the rest of the cast in general would be nice, as well as more things to do in the overworld.
>>14682450
More replayability in Glitz Pit would be nice overall as well for the whole game. Thousand Year Door is a game I only play every so often when I feel like fucking around with a new playstyle or badge combo. I haven't really felt the urge to replay it at all recently and I'd say I've only done that twice or so.
I wouldn't say the General White segment is bad either, it just needs more banter or comedy to make it feel worth it or that it belongs in the story.

An unfinished game which needs actual finishing
>Line of Sight actually blocks enemy spells (Rocks, Trees, Walls, etc)
>You can destroy or alter the environment with spells (water pillar leaves a puddle of water, Rock destroys the ground and creates a hole). Which leads to:
>Interactable environment: Using a fire spell on puddle of water would give you bonus attack: Hot Steam. Hiding on the wall helps you evade attacks. Using water pillar on the hole creates a little pool of water. Wind Cutter cuts trees which can do damage to enemies.
The game was going to be Dragon Quest 8 before DQ8 was a thing. Huge overworld and huge towns and cities with a grandiose adventure feel. However the game was extremely rushed, hence the story is empty and the world feels empty. Fill up the world with STORY, cinematics, sidequests, areas with tough enemies you can only come back later, and so on.
>Add a currency system and real shops.
>Add a crafting system, cooking system and what not with enemy loot
>Add badge-tier system like in paper mario or hollow knight where you have slots where you equip more badges. They can expand either with story progression, exploring the world, or using spirits you find.
>Furthermore, increase the spirit cap to 99 for each element
>in tandem, new spells only achieveable with enough spirits from two or more elements.
>The enemies have unique animations when attacking, you can move while the enemy attacks you and dodge the spells. You can already move while the enemy casts, but the camera needs be changed so you see where to move. Another option would be some enemies attack at the same time, making it harder to dodge (making it not each enemy having a turn but rather the enemy has a turn then the player has a turn)
>Allow familiars or summong minion spells. They can act as support, damage or tanks. That way you can spec into a minion summoner type mage if you wish to.
>in the same way, allow spells to be more creative. some charge attacks, some attacks where they float beside you (charged) that will be unleashed on next attack, etc
>no more random enemy encounter, enemies on the field and dynamic transition
>more bosses, more enemy types, more mini-bosses, less run from point A to point B and more actual jrpg gameplay (dungeons, dungeons with unique puzzles, opening the way to dungeons, stories with twists on each town, etc)
>enemies have type weaknesses, enemies also can move out of spells just like you, except obviously not as as swift or quick as the player
Game would have to be remade for the switch with current year graphics, but OST and general aesthetics would be respected. Holy Magic Century could be Nintendo's Dragon Quest and they never took the proper opportunity to deliver a proper game. interactable environment and dodging spells could be the RPG's competitive advantage.

The blue cave would have to be reworked to actually have puzzles instead of a long maze, but the spirit of the blue cave is that is dreary and a feel of never ending, so you could make ice environment where you need to keep warm or you start losing health and many moments where it feels it will take forever to reach the next "I can make a campfire/torch/rest" checkpoints, perhaps even reaching the meter to 0 and being at 0 for 20 seconds losing health as you walk until you reach the a camping spot.

It wasn't all that good of a game either, but with further development or advice from hindsight, it could've been. The concept itself wasn't bad.
It was certainly better than Yooka-Laylee

It's not my favorite but >>14682375 already said SM so here I go:
-Better presentation, i.e. better sprites, music, etc.
-Class changes change the attitudes of the characters. For example, Kevin going Dervish end with him fighting Beast King at the end, in his search for more power, Angela becomes more balanced if she becomes a Grand Divina, etc.
-More character dialogue overall, especially during the 8 God Beasts quest. Everyone except for the Fairy goes silent.
-More flexible stats and more nuanced classes. There isn't really much beyond each character's base attribute. The game even caps the non-base stats.
-Combat is more involved, either make it Terranigma style or at least a little bit more skill based, including dodges and critical attacks that actually work.
-Class skills and magic don't stop the game, at least not the tier 1 and 2. Tier 3 is more understandable, shit like Hell Cross or Ancient are pretty showstopping.
-Larger enemy encounters but they are subject to the same rules as you. This means no more 0 hp Wolf Devil wiping your party by doing two Suzaku Sky Dances in a row.
-More variety in equipment earlier and better money scaling. Grinding only a tiny bit leaves your characters ready to go for large portions of the game. As for equipment, have different attack speeds for different weapons of the same tier. Also make them available from the get go.

And the sad thing that game inspired my autism to where I thought up of a Gauntlet-like multi-player spin-off where you play Maxim's son and his harem of girlfriends (or mercenaries if you're gay) and fight through Lexis's dungeon builder with a massive variety of weapon styles, arts and spells. The system didn't have levels and XP but instead you "tuned" your energy waves to alter your core stats to determine your playstyle. Your core stats also limited what weapon styles, armor type, and spells you could cast too.

I was hesitant to include something like that, considering I was trying to think of ways to improve the base game. Although when it comes to remakes, I think that's the best way you could make one. Improve the graphics, fix the bugs, and add more levels/modes or another game on top of it. I suggested in a thread with a similar topic a while ago that if Mario 64 were to be remade they should include Bonus Stages or another castle via Wario's Castle or Bowser's Castle that would be like another Mario 64 on their own and they could include levels with more traditional Mario elements that the ones before 64 had. And let's be honest, 64 DS was awful, but at least it had content for people who already played the original.

Remakes are a lazy way of repackaging something people already liked and selling it to them again without actually having to come up with any new ideas. I'm not saying that all remakes are bad or can never be done well, there are plenty of good remakes, But all of them are unnecessary. Every game that comes out is a piece of history reflecting the time period it was made in to remake that game would mean that piece of history is replaceable and doesn't matter anymore.
If they ever made a Remake of Devil May Cry 1 I would be fucking pissed because Devil May Cry 1 is perfect the way it is, to remake the game with today's tech would fundamentally change what it is. Simply put a game like DMC1 can't be made in 2018 due to how much times have changed.

I'd argue the child section needs to be shorter or removed. I wasn't a fan of it and I kept wondering when the actual game was going to start. But then again, it wouldn't be the same game without it and I can accept it's needed to set up it's later tones and themes. I would also cut out the mandatory mini-games required to progress and make them optional for cool items. Slimming down some of more tedious and beefy parts of the game would be nice like the desert, but I also worry it could make it feel like a different game. More dragon genes/fusions would be nice. I would add more areas in general, the last area or Myria's continent felt rushed and hastily thrown together, the pace becoming severely inconsistent and I think making those areas go by faster with more to do in general would make the game feel more whole. More side quests would be nice, I think the game had almost none. I would add 2 more party members too just because the cast felt kind of bland compared to the first and second games. I blame Momo and Nina. Are you gay for Rei?

I admit I kind of fucked up with the title, rather I should've put it as "How Would You Improve Your Favorite Game?" but I'm fine with off-topic semi-related posts. You can even talk about what you'd want to see out of a sequel or how you'd want a similar game to be done, as long as general interesting ideas are being discussed it's okay in this thread and I'd love to see what others can think of.
>>14686672
More movement options and attack options would be nice. Not necessarily more weapons, but more ways to use the sword and bow you have. I kind of like the game's empty and foreboding aesthetic so the only thing you can really change without making it an entirely different game would be physics/mechanics or something similar. I'd argue more Colossi but at that point it'd be another game or expansion considering that's it's main draw.
>>14688443
That seems to be Rare's schtick now. Good ideas, but horrible, bland, empty, or uninspired execution. Sea of Thieves could've been amazing had they stuck to it's Project Dream concept and included more zany antics and off the wall characters like Captain Blackeye. I'm surprised they made no effort to include elements of fantasy besides bland enemies like Skeletons and whatnot. Would've been cool to have to explore an underwater island at some point and have to fight sea monsters or have to escape a giant ghost ship. Each Island should've been it's own level with some greater objective to it instead of filling out checklists. I wonder what Rare could've done if they went One Piece levels of cuh-ray-zee.

Digital Foundry did this really good hour long interview on shadow of the colossus PS4. They had the bluepoint guys on discussing exactly how they built the game for PS4. It's the most faithful possible remake I can think of. For those that don't know bluepoint rose to fame with their 7th gen HD remasters, they described their process as taking the final game code, reverse engineering it, then porting it to PC (running but with 0 optimization) and then porting that PC code to PS3/360. They realized this was the optimal way to work on these games and the same applies for their new remasters, they always work with the final release. They work in opposite of the narrative that you need source code access to do these things.
For the Shadow of the Colossus remake they started by porting the NTSC PS2 version of the game again, not starting from their PS3 base. From there they stripped the games engine, keeping all the logic in tact, adjusting any timing issues the game might have running at 30/60fps, and then built a second engine which refers to all logic from the original engine. The second engine, bluepoint's in-house engine deals interprets and cleans up any necessary adjustments to the game logic and also is how the game processes any rendering.
I was really impressed by this and thought it was the coolest way to get this game working and a brilliant way to do remasters/remakes. I think it is the definitive model.
Personally speaking I'm not very interested in remastering/remaking any of my favorite games or seeing them get that treatment. I value faithfulness to the original material more than anything and if I were to remake something, I would require a faithful recreation, flaws maintained and offering an option to address them but never to erase them. If there's some obscure z-fighting textures in the background of a cutscene that you can only see in 1-2 frames of that cutscene, I'd require it to be in there.

I don't think I'm good enough to fix any good games, but the best I can do is come up with fixes for shit ones like Chaotix (I could make a fucking chart about that one). Actually, most "fixes" I could come up with are on the level of mods or rom hacks instead of actual remakes. On the topic of Banjo games, some guys are remaking Grunty's Revenge in one of the N64 game's engines. When they're done with that, I'd be interested in seeing a Banjo Kazooie Collection where you play through Kazooie, Grunty's Revenge, and Tooie in order. Probably in Tooie's engine since it seems to be a bit better, but I don't know the details.
Also fun fact since I never get to bring this up anywhere else. Grunty's Revenge creates collision boxes in actual 3D. I know that's not impressive to anyone who has ever played a JRPG on the PS1, but this was on the fucking GBA. Rare might not always be competent at game design but I'm pretty sure they're wizards.

That's honestly about it. This.
Click Clock Woods was the best level. You get to see it transform, and it is hugely vertical.
The only way you could improve the Banjo Kazooie series is by making it open world but inspired by Click Clock Woods. For example, a distant sprawling mountain that you can climb, talon trot, fly or sled to cover, being the peak of the world, and to each side of it a different diverse biome of platforming and exploration goodness.
You can still have hub-world sections, caves and the like, if you wanted to limit the power of flight in some areas.

HM64 has plenty to do, it's a planning game where the skill being tested is your ability to figure out how best to get the most done. I think the game that I would need to change the least to make more amazing would be:
Dragon's Dogma:
>More weapons. Two-handed swords get access to a full skill-set instead of half the kit size. Add axes, hammers, whips, true spears, and crossbows. Include throwing weapons.
>Unarmed combat is made viable, with its own skills and perks that can be used on any character: Thus, you can be a Fist Fighter, or a Fist Mage.
>Fix the Attack vs Defense system so you can't just hit something and not inflict any damage. Replace with a 'requires X to hit' where weapons have a rarity, like Daggerfall or an old tabletop game.
>Increase the number of spells available. Give mages a spell-book for re-speccing spells out in the field, to improve the arsenal of spells available. Include more exploration type spells like Daggerfall's levitation, and teleportation spells, so it's not just portstones.
>Include grappling hooks and other stuff that can be thrown for climbing and exploration.
>Expand the game to its original intended, complete size - The full continent, plus the moon, plus all of the other factors that were meant to be included.
>Expand character dialogue to make NPCs more real. Further develop a greater number as full romance options. Make the romance system more functional, so you can actually 'lock' someone as your choice instead of it being 'last person with max affinity talked to before x quest'.
>Expand the crafting system with the use of smith NPCs who can forge custom, higher-quality weapons.
>Further expansion of the enemy variety to include shit like Medusa, Centaurs, and other things that could provide a higher degree of challenge.
>Underwater exploration in certain areas instead of just getting automatically Brined the moment you go out too deep; swimming, obviously, as well.
>Expansion of quests to something more like Morrowind, with more to go about doing besides just the main quest and a few satellites; more relationships/rivalries between NPCs.
>Better methods to fine-tune your pawn behavior.
If I was going to make the 'perfect fantasy adventure game', I would use DD as my template, since it has the most correct things going for it.

Mega Man Zero, but Metal Gear Rising version. Sums up how it'd work best in 3D.

Don't have Cuphead on PC. Can't say. If the game needs more than one trigger you're better off sticking with Playstation controllers. The zL/zR buttons are by +/- because in Pokken those are assists. I'd say up to 2D Saturn Pokken pad would be fine.

Would that be a remake or sequel? Sounds like allt of stuff to add to sequel.

Harvest Moon 64 is very comfy but it's one of those games where if you don't want to miss content you play it with a guide, and it's just a dopamine generator for achieving/participating on events.
I think the game could use more content and more leeway. Reminds me of P3 with tight schedules. It's ok to generate level of pressure with the calendar, but you should always be able to get everything if you manage it well, not choose what not to participate.
Also after you run out of things to purchase the game loses its purpose of generating revenue. I wished there was some sort of other features to use money for. When I meant more content I meant more consumables, more gifts, etc. If a harvest moon 64 remake was implemented I'd prolong how much the story can go forward as well as add more content which has been on latter games

In cases like these, what you can always for in games that are good in every way is more post-game content.

Remove the Point of no return
Make it open world after the time skip where you cane explore everything. I'd even add an NPC that teleports you into the past as a sidequest where you can visit previous chapters if you missed any treasures.
Now that the points of no return have been removed and you cannot miss anything
Bestiary. Reward for finding all enemy types and fighting them once. rewards given slowly depending on number of enemies.
Codex like in DQ8 where you can take pictures of different things for cool rewards.
Mini-medals like in DQ encouraging exploration of houses giving cool rewards
I know it would be ripping off DQ but these mechanics REALLY enrich Jrpgs like these regarding exploration and encouraging fighting all enemies.
With these changes no one will miss the areas and on the contrary, be encouraged to do them
I'd also add a post-game with challenging bosses, and perhaps like most jrpgs a hardcore version of all bosses in the game, like in mario & luigi game postgame. There could also be a boss rush with a secret boss at the game
These are basic jrpg features that enrich all jrpgs in general.

>Time travel
That goes against the fucking final part of the game, that was the main point of Porky's physical state and also against the main theme of the game about how to deal with changes and loss.
Also: So you make the characters remember everything they have lived before the time travel? That's plothole city
You make them forget? Then: Do they retain their items gained on that previously played chapter?
No? Then you are making the experience tedious for the player
Yes? More plothole city, how did those items materialize into their inventories?
Also a game that makes you feel in a hurry all the time doesn't benefit from having those kind of pastimes.

It doesn't have to be time travel, it could be any excuse to revisit the area
A dream, they got high with shrooms, etc.
You're missing the point.

Since you're retarded I'll elaborate
Sidequest: Magicant wants you to make sure the timeline is respected. Go back to the past and ensure things happen
This could be post-game since it is pretty much a final test of acceptance for Lucas and Co to let things go even when taunted they could change it, but they can't because timestream would be altered etc
Go back to chapter of choice to make sure post-game enemy doesn't fuck things up
You don't really control Flint, Salsa etc, you're just in the shadows making sure their storyline is respected, but at the same time, you can explore and grab anything These characters missed.
This allows not missing items, use this as post-game content, while also still being on theme with the game.
That's why I said time travel. It could easily work, and you could state it's magicant magic that is not powerful enough to send you back in time, only temporary to specific locations.

Make it so you could wander around the city, breaking into houses, stealing shit, finding out everyone’s dirty secrets, and discovering hidden ruins/temples.
